XX

As another Vampire Diaries season ends, and The Originals wraps up its inaugural season, it’s with a mixed sense of sadness and gratitude that we announce this has been our final season as an active website.

Since starting Vampire-Diaries.net over five years ago, we have been so fortunate to share our excitement, inside jokes, and crackpot mythology theories with a humbling number of readers, commenters, and followers – many of whom have become friends. We have been allowed unforgettable opportunities and experienced overwhelming support and love. (Remember when you guys won us a Logo Superfan Site NewNowNext award?) We have watched this fandom grow into the unstoppable force it has become with a sense of awe and pride. You are a beautiful, passionate, entertaining family, and you have made this an amazing ride.

But five years is a long time and the timing felt right to say goodbye. When you’ve immersed yourself in something as all-consuming as this has been, there comes a point where you want the time and freedom to pursue other projects that are important to you. And that’s what we will all be doing as we close this chapter and begin a new one. So while we are sad to say goodbye, we are also excited to plunge whole-heartedly into these new endeavors, and we hope you’ll be happy for us, too.

So what does this mean? The site will not be going anywhere for the time being, as we discuss possibilities for the future, but we will not be updating. We wanted to announce this now so that commenters would have an opportunity to exchange off-site contact information and ensure you can keep in touch with the friends you’ve made here. Comments on the blog will be left open, though we will no longer be moderating them, so please: Be excellent to each other.

Thank you to the fellow fansites and TV journalists and recappers who always made us feel welcome, to everyone who volunteered as mods on the V-D.net forum or contributed a guest post to the blog, to anyone who ever reached out with a kind word via here or Twitter and, most of all, thank you to Julie and Kevin and the casts, writers, crews and production teams of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. We look forward to kicking back and appreciating your work every week as plain ‘ole fans as we move into Vampire Diaries Season 6 and The Originals Season 2.

And thank YOU. (Yes, YOU.)

Love,
Red (@redcognito), Kate (@katelinnea), Abby (@abbygraham), Holly (@hollye83), Vee (@dieslaughing) & Crissy (@crissycalhoun)

Vampire Diaries In Review: Home (EP522) - The Captain Goes Down with the ShipAnd so it ends. Season five came to a close on Thursday night with a heart-breaking implosion (and an impressive explosion) that left our characters unmoored — loved ones lost, and returned. Home is where the heart is, as the saying goes, and in this finale, the Mystic Falls gang proved willing to go to the ends of the earth to be together and to protect their loved ones even when that meant risking their own existence.

Reaction Post & Poll: The Vampire Diaries - Home (EP522 - Season Finale)THE VAMPIRE DIARIES ADDS SERIES REGULAR FOR SEASON 6

COMPLETE SONGLIST FOR THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: HOME (EP522)

Alas, season 5 draws to a close tonight, to be followed by the dreaded hiatus until Season 6 starts later this year. Will the Travelers get their collective butts kicked? Will the Other Side be saved? Who keeps leaving Damon in charge of making all the plans? As with many of Damon’s plans, things will go ‘splodey. As it’s a finale, expect it to be impressive, likely followed by cliffhanger fallout of massive proportions.

Once you’ve finished watching and shaken yourself back to reality, swing by here to rate the season 5 finale of The Vampire Diaries. All discussion about the episode is welcomed and encouraged in the comments of this post.

Quick guide to the poll: 5 Points = LOVE, 1 Point = MEH.

TONIGHT – The Vampire Diaries: Home (EP522 - Season Finale) Airs at 8/7c

I was going to ask if you’re ready for tonight’s season finale of The Vampire Diaries, but who am I kidding? I’m 100% sure that none of us are emotionally prepared for this. But here it is. So gather up your Kleenex and your wine and maybe some ice cream and a teddy bear, because we’re assuming we will need all of those things to deal with this finale. Home (EP522) premieres on the CW at 8/7c.

XXIt seems unfair to declare a finale the best episode of a season, doesn’t it? Season finales are meant to be pull-out-all-the-stops affairs, constructed for maximum plot and emotional impact, therefore giving them a leg up in the grand scheme of a television season. It’s the pay off, the grand moment of resolution. We go into a season finale expecting our asses to be kicked and our hearts ripped out. Yet The Originals season finale, From a Cradle to a Grave, managed to surpass my already heightened expectations and I feel wholly confident, and not at all apologetic, in saying it was the best episode this show has done to date. From its exquisitely wrought cold open to its menacing final scene, this finale not only capped an admirable freshman season but promised a world of hurt in Season 2. Ready to relive every agonizing moment and cry all over again? Oh, you’re still crying? Me, too. Let’s go.

SPOILERS! CONTINUE READING “HOPE.”
