The CW has released the official synopsis for The Vampire Diaries: Because the Night (EP417), airing Thursday, March 21st. Highlight for spoilers:
FLASHBACK TO DAMON’S LIFE IN 1970s NEW YORK / THE BAND DEAD SARA PERFORMS — Realizing that Elena (Nina Dobrev) needs some time away from Mystic Falls, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) takes her to New York City, where he lived and partied hard in the 1970s. When Rebekah (Claire Holt) also shows up in New York, she’s impressed with Elena’s secret agenda. Flashbacks reveal Damon’s hedonistic life in the underground club scene and a complicated encounter with Lexi (guest star Arielle Kebbel). Meanwhile, Caroline (Candice Accola) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) try to convince Klaus (Joseph Morgan) that it would be in his own best interest to help them track Silas down, and Bonnie (Kat Graham) struggles to keep her grasp on reality and do the right thing.
The episode was directed by Garreth Stover and written by Brian Young & Charlie Charbonneau.

The last few episodes of The Vampire Diaries have been eventful, to say the least, so it’s time for some postmortems: executive producer Julie Plec has done a bunch of interviews in the wake of the big, huge events of Down the Rabbit Hole (EP414) and Stand by Me (EP415), but we don’t want to risk spoiling anyone in the U.K. or other countries that aren’t quite up to date with the show. And these interviews, obviously, are really spoilery. So we’re giving you the links, and you can read at your own risk. Enjoy!

The CW has also released a new promo for the March 14th return of the show, called “Losing Control.” It doesn’t look like there’s much (if any) new footage, but ooh, shiny:

THE NEW NORMAL — Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) new outlook has everyone concerned, leading Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) to agree that going back to the normal routine of high school would be the best thing for her. Caroline (Candice Accola) is pleasantly surprised when Elena decides to rejoin the cheerleading squad, but her pleasure turns to shock when Elena’s behavior proves dangerous. Not giving up on their search for the cure, Damon and Rebekah (Claire Holt) work together until his unwanted advice catches her off-guard. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) tries to use Hayley (guest star Phoebe Tonkin) to get the information he’s after and makes an intriguing discovery in the process.
