Thanks to Jen for letting us know that there’s a listing for Vampire Diaries: Midnight (the third book in the Return Trilogy) up on Amazon.co.uk now. We advise ignoring the dates (July 2010 seems highly unlikely unless the publishing world has harnessed time itself, given that book two, Shadow Souls, isn’t out until March, 2010), but the listing comes complete with what has to be one of the most profoundly spoilery summaries out there. Holy shit. That is the most spoiler-ific blurb I have ever seen. Thank you spoiling THE ENTIRE second book for us, publishers. And I do not like this thing with Damon. Hopefully he becomes a vampire again somehow, like Sylar losing his powers in Heroes season 2 but regaining them at the end. Although it might make it easier for Damon and Bonnie to have a happy ending…that’s really the only ship I particularly care about (sorry Elena/Stefan). Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Hmmm… I don’t like this. Damon a mortal? One of the reasons I love his character is the fact that he actually *enjoys* being a vampire. There are too many mopey emo vampires who do nothing but lament the fact of who they are.

Haha, me too. LJS does have a penchant for Damon/bad boys more so, but she usually doesn’t put favoritism (thank goodness) in on who gets paired with who as she seems to love writing DB too.
I guess it really comes to their interactions in this second book (which I hope is an improvement from that last one). LJS mentioned several times that she’s moving forward with DE becoming more mutual romantically. And of course we’ll have to see if DB develops as all to really determine anything. I admit I like DB along with DE/SE, but all we got is Bonnie’s attraction to him, understanding (which was then flipped in the last book somewhat) and Damon’s fondness for Bonnie. killerchopsticks(Quote)

Ugh I hope not. Damon being all noble at the end is not the way to go. I loved how the third book ended. We always typically see the other guy die, but in TVD, it was Elena/person in the middle that died. Pure speculation, but I agree that Damon really has to die at this point. I mean, this whole new trilogy is about his redemption, right? (At least, that is the idea I get from reading interviews with LJS) And, you know, in the realm of fiction, most redemptions do end in death in the form of a heroic sacrifice or something. I guess becoming human could be Damon’s sacrifice but that does not seem as poignant as the other option.
That being said, i would still love a Elena/Damon hookup in these last books. I always seem to root for the bad boy who gets the best lines. (Sorry, Stefan) Emily(Quote)

I am an avid Stefan supporter, true love explanation. Damon and Bonnie together would be a simple solution to him not being unhappy but doesn’t seem right although, would be cute. I love TVD and can’t wait to read the following book. Damon being human isn’t fair because it what Stefan has always want, except Damon seems to always be 2nd best to him so its like payback. hes getting what Stefan always wanted. but because Damon has realized humans are not so bad I don’t think he will be disapointed. I guess we have to wait and see.

I just wanted to mention something that I think some may have missed. About 3/4 of the way down someone (don’t remember who-sorry) mentioned a similarity to the Twilight love triangle. I wanted to say that Vampire Diaries was published way before Stephenie put pen to paper. TVD was around first and any similarities should be made to TVD not the other way around. OMG, You Damon/Bonnie fans are killing me. There has not been enough chemistry and or evidence of that pairing. The whole theme of the books is a Love Triangle between Damon/Elena/Stefan how from that do you come up with Bonnie and Damon. Everything I’ve read of the spoilers goes right along with the original books which suggest Damon is in love with Elena and L.J.S. herself says Elena is going to fall in love with Damon in Shadow Souls why go through making them love each other just to throw Damon with Bonnie that would be a WTF moment if I ever saw one. Have you ever heard that oppersites attracked and if you have read all the books you would know that there have been D/B moments and if we are going off the books so far Elena may love Damon in ss but it is still not as much as she loves Stefan and you said wats the point in building a relationship if nothings is going to happen in the end but the same could be said for the Damon and Bonnie realtionship. I have read the books thoroughly, trust me. I’ve seen plenty of evidence of something building between Damon/Elena but can’t say that I’ve seen evidence of a Damon/Bonnie relationship. Why? Because he called her his baby bird? Then walked out and didn’t want to see ‘Elena’s\ face? Sat in a tree and said he didn’t care about anyone else but ‘Elena’ was there. Other than Damon saving Bonnie (which he wasn’t totally on board for, until Elena said \please help her\)The only other real moments if you want to call them that is in the book that Elena is dead in.The summary for Midnight says Elena chooses between Damon and Stefan where is Bonnie in that equation? I do believe Damon cares for Bonnie as a friend, I just haven’t seen a love connection at all. Matt and Bonnie have had more of a connection.IMO. The reason I like D/E is because Elena is more like damon. And he is often 2nd to stefan. REally though I don’t want that to be the case. She is starting to realize this to some extent, and maybe stefan is a way for her to ‘be good’.
Overall I think its a three way growth. LJS mentioned a reference from the Fox as author-gueneveer-lancelot triangle. Really she set it up withthat *twist* for a reason. I don’t think its clear yet what will happen. If Elena loved Damon before, or loved Stefan before there is a repeating problem. Remember her dream inthe bathtub?
I dont want to see people die again, or more. I think Elena is like the reason that things are changing in the brothers, and them for her. I’d be surprised if the three stayed together…be interesting.
D/B … bonnie is cool but she faints at every turn. Their moments don’t grab me the same as the triangle. I think Damon likes to hang around her at times because she is in distress or unique. His bird comment make me feel like she is a youngster/cousin. He feels something when he saved her. something human he was proud of. But, He even said that elena was the only gem on the face of the earth…in so many words. When she is alive at least he loves her. I also think he’d tone down if paired with elena.
Stefan seems more agreeable to this “i’ve even loved him’as elena put it trying to fix damon. She needs to be called out on the stuff she hides from him, but i think he is already aware. Somehow stefan won’t be heartbroken in my eyes. he will probably be the one to be noble…as elena has already died. I dont think i’d be death though. I don’t see them as being overly compatible. they’ve been through alot-almost too much-and i just don’t feel it despite the depth written into them. She tries to hard to be ‘good’ and she hides too much from him. Wonder if the boys will trade places: one goes good one goes bad.

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who does not want a Damon/Bonnie match. I really want D/E but I agree with someone(can’t remember who, sorry!!) that I don’t see how it can be a happy ending for Stefan if he does not have elena and I don’t think LJS would leave him hanging like that. I adore the ideal of having stefan&elena together to me their much better than Elena&damon.Its so boring and typical of the bad boy winning more fans over the good guy jus like their triangle. Has anyone thought about the fact that Elena is a virgin and according to the books vampires cant go all the way. With Damon now being human he is loosing his vampire way with women but this may be the clue for Elena and Damon to finally come together. I agree with you completley the show and the books are very different. I have tried to look for similarities between them and really there are not many. In the book Elena doesent have a brother she has a little sister. My guess is because there trying to make it a family program for telivision they have to change the dinamics of the book so that it fits into the typical senarios for televison. Plus the last two books to me got a little bit confusing I had to reread and honestly skipped chapters because it was becoming to boring. T.V. has to keep a smooth story line to keep viewers interested. I think they should have kept the characters in the books and show similar to eachother. I just read the books, all of them, in like a two week time span! I couldn’t put them down, I absolutely loved them. I agree with those against the whole Bonnie/Damon thing, it just doesn’t wort. I have read all the books and I don’t think Bonny and Damon will happen but I do think Bonny and Matt will. Now when it comes down to it about the show and books I like both and I think the show shouldn’t be exactly like the books because we will know exactly what happens and get bored with the show. Look at true blood the show and books are different and people keep watching the show and reading the books. Now to the Damon being human thing. I think it will be good for Damon to be human for a little while but not long. It’s because of the show that I started to read the books and I LOVE the books and the show!!! I’ve read them all and I can’t wait to see what will happen in the final chapter of the series. As for Damon I was like O.M.F.G!!! I wasn’t expecting that to happen!!! I think in the final book she will have them stop all the madness thats going on in Fell’s Church and she will have Stefan and Elena end up together and I do hope that Elena will become a vampire. I’ve been wanting to say this ever since I finished reading Shadow Souls a few months ago. I’m still rooting for Stelena and Bamon. While yes, there were quite a few Delena moments in the book, I honestly don’t think Elena would leave Stefan hanging after everything she’s done for him, she was very specific about that. Also, you have to see, especially with a certain scene I won’t go into detail but I hope you people will remember, from Nightfall, one that showed the potential Bamon actually has in the books. I think that what happened to Damon in the end of Shadow Souls actually ups that possibility, because now he’s on more even ground with Bonnie.
Regarding the Stelena pairing, I honestly can’t see her being with a human Stefan, I mean, she’s not really human, that much’s for sure, and things were insinuated in the most recent book regarding to the nature of her wings. So for her and her companions to be equals, said companion couldn’t be human. Hence Stefan can’t be changed back into a human.

Alright. I read Shadow Souls a couple of months ago. I thought it was the best out of them all. I can’t wait until Midnight comes out. I keep going into my local barnes and nobel to see when i can pre order it.
Thoughts on Shadow Souls:
I am a fan of Damon and Elena not really Stefan and Elena. I just think that Elena and Damon are better for each other, they are both devious and love to play with peoples minds.(In Elena’s diary entry when she is sitting in the back of the Jaguar she mentions that she used to think of guys as toys) I think that L.J Smith changing Damon into a human is just a complication and that he will be back to being a vampire in no time. I think it is just to start the rivalry between the brothers again. I am NOT a fan of the Bonnie and Damon thing. I dont see why anyone is… it just doesnt work. It is supposed to be a love triangle between Elena, Damon and Stefan. I think Bonnie should be with Matt. Meridith with Alaric. Elena with Damon or Stefan, whichever is fine but I prefer Damon. The cover of Midnight is of Bonnie. Which is odd since it has only been of the brothers and Elena in her different lives (Vampire, spirit(i think), human.
About the Show:
I am still mad about Meridith not being in the show. The second season starts September 9, 2010. Mark your calenders if you are a fan of the show. I think Ian Somerhalder plays Damon perfectly. He has that cocky attitude and his look just screams Damon. I think they should have had the two brothers kill each other with swords instead of being shot but oh well, i dont write the episodes. Someone said above that if the show was exactly like the books we would get bored. I agree. I wish they would have all of the characters though. I really want meridith in the show.

Bonnies weak and small but has a mentally tough brain especially as shes psychic or a witch thing and Damon could love nd protect her as much as she needs. Also for all of you saying that Delena have great chemistry, so do Elena and Damon, Elena says that she trembles with passion when they kiss,the only reason theres sparks with Damon is because shes getting a taste of danger and wants to be rebellious. Even if Damon will stay human (very likely not) he is mentally much more suited to Bonnie than Matt is and will ever be. Also Damon seems like the person who will move on from Elena and forget if he falls in love again, and everyones gotta admit he has a thing for Bonnie already as well. Now let me get this straight. Anyone who has read L.J’s books knows there is going to be a happy ending. My opinion study the riddle it holds clues for the next book. Now I’ll tell u guys what i think the riddle means.
The one with the secret is Mrs.Flowers. The murderer is Meredith. The one withe the memory erased id Bonnie. I mean come on, all through-out Shadow S. she didn’t have any vibe towards Damon. Oh and i think Damon and Elena slept together or got pretty damn close to.
Last but not least I’m betting Elena is going to choose Stefan. I mean think about it why would L.J have them fighting to be together through the entire series Just for Elena to end up saying, “what the hell am i doing? I want Damon! Get lost Stefan.” Damon is either going to end up alone or with Bonnie. Why Bonnie? Because she isn’t Elena. She brings out Damon’s protective side. Shes physically weak. And she needs a protector. Elena is strong and takes care of herself but i think Stefan’s time in the prison messed him up mentally Elena has to help him.

I think that Damon and Elena are gonna end up together cuz Damon brings out a side in her that no one else can…ELena loves him and he loves her WAY more than you would think he would… he throws a terrible fit if ANY1 messes with his girl… Elena loves Stephan but it will never really be enough…he just opened her heart that you could love some1 without just you no playin emm Stephan was the first boy she loved like that..i mean dont get me rong she loves matt to but not that way she loves him like a brother….. RegardingDamon being mortal…I’m curious to where that’s going to take everything — an absolutely crazy twist. I don’t even know how to picture him human. First of all? Where do you get all that information? I’ve been dying to know something more about what’s coming in Midnight, nearly had a fit when the release date was pushed further away (I want it to come out already!)
About everything you say, I totally agree. And actually, i can’t believe I hadn’t considered what you mentioned about being Princess of Darkness, it really isn’t in Elena to be like that. I mena, if you had taken Elena as she was in the first book, all pretty- cheerleader school-princess show-off girl maybe (actually, that’s why I found so strange the radical way they changed her in the show…). Anyway, I digress, and agree that she doesn’t have it in her to be what Damon wants her to be. I like the idea of them being like siblings, the way they got along in Shadow Souls while fighting to get Stefan back was great, if we could just forget the Delena connotations.
And, in the end, I just love Bamon and Stelena, and Meredith/Alaric too; also in the show I like Caroline/Matt.

Totally agree with you, and another realization that just came to me. Anyone remembers that part in Shadow Souls, when Damon nearly dies, he mumbles something about Elena gaining something when he’s gone, like he did something to block her in some way…not quite sure, but the thing is, it could ‘possibly’ be related to what happened when she was a spirit, with the origin of her wings. And, since now Damon is human, does that mean whatever he did to block Elena is off?

Whoa, ok. Huge Spoiler! Somewhere I read that Damon turning into a human would result in him falling for Bonnie while Elena will start loving him just as much as she loves Stefan. Wow, go Dalena! Anyway, so in another place I read that L.J. Smith would write two new trios, one a spin-off from TVD, the other as a continuation of TVD. The spin-off triology is called Stefan’s Diaries, and it’s about Stefan and Damon’s adventures before meeting Elena, and after Katherine. The second triology is called Phantom, Eversong, and Eternity and these three book talk about Stefan and Elena’s life after moving out of Fell’s Church to College.
