Paul Wesley has been confirmed as a guest at Spain’s Vampire Diaries convention, BloodyNightCon 2011. He’ll be joining Ian Somerhalder at the event, which takes place in Barcelona on the 11th and 12th of June.
Lauren Cohan has been confirmed for the EyeCon Vampire Diaries convention in the US, and will be joined by a whole host of familiar faces from the show (check out the guest list for cast members confirmed so far). The event takes place in Atlanta, Georgia on the 25th – 27th March.
The lovely @TVD_Chloe asked if we could point fans to Michael Trevino Online’s Birthday Project, in honor of Michael’s birthday on January 25th. Chloe will be editing together a video of birthday wishes from fans. If you want to participate, head over to MTO to get details on how you can submit. (Don’t have a camera? You can also sign his birthday card.) Deadline is January 18th.
For those of you attending EyeCon’s Vampire Diaries Convention in Atlanta, March 25-27, entertainment site FanBolt is putting together a Vampire Diaries fan party (not associated with the convention) for Thursday, March 24th, and are gauging interest. If you want to watch the March 24th episode of the show and hang out with your fellow fans (plus lots of other cool stuff), you can find more information on the FanBolt forums and let them know if you’re attending in this thread (please do let them know so they can get an accurate headcount!).
Finally, some of you may be aware, but in case you’re not – Jess and Bri of Vampire Stalkers / Mystic Falls Tours / The VRO suffered the sudden and terrible loss of Jess’ mother (and Bri’s grandmother) earlier this week. The family has no insurance and Jess has (quite understandably) had to postpone all MF tours so the family can grieve and make arrangements. If you would like to help the family, please consider making a donation via the PayPal button (in the left column) on the Vampire Stalkers website. Jess and Bri are wonderful people and deserve all the fandom support we can give them at this time. Red and I extend our deepest condolences.
Tickets for North America’s very first Vampire Diaries fan convention go on sale today, December 29th, at 12pm Eastern and 9am Pacific. The EyeCon Vampire Diaries Convention takes place in Atlanta, March 25-27, 2011, and so far has confirmed Paul Wesley and Robert Pralgo (Mayor Lockwood) as guests, with more to be announced. Tickets range from $10 to $355. To purchase your tickets during the onsale, and for more info on ticket levels and prices, make sure you’re on the Tickets page.
EyeCon’s been adding additional information about individual events happening during the convention, including the Miss Mystic Falls Pageant (including sign-up form), Friday Night Cocktail Carnival Party, Saturday Night Celebrity Banquet, and the Mystic Falls Masquerade Ball (which, it should be noted, will be of a more “adult” nature and will require adult supervision for guests under 18 years of age). Read more about all of these events on the Guests & Events page.
Make sure to leave a glass of doppelganger blood out next to the cookies!
Happy 32nd Birthday, Ian!
To help celebrate his birthday, Ian’s wish this year is for his fans (and fans of the Vampire Diaries!) to band together for a good cause, and donate $32 to the Ian Somerhalder Foundation to help change our world for the better. It doesn’t have to be $32 – it can be more, it can be less. But if you have a few spare dollars lurking around, every little bit donated to the cause is greatly appreciated. You can visit the Ian Somerhalder Foundation website for a message from Ian and more information on donating.
And on the subject of supporting the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, you can also donate to the cause by purchasing a t-shirt from the Vampire Support T-shirt Project (in partnership with Mystic Falls Tours), which is aiming to raise money for the The National Wildlife Federation via the Foundation. Head on over to Vampire Support for more details and to place your order.
Hope our American readers enjoyed their holiday weekend! If you noticed we’ve been a bit quiet this week, don’t worry – we’re indulging in some much-needed “cleaning” on the site, including a layout overhaul. Not a small task but we hope you will be as excited about the final result as we are.
We’re often asked about helping out with the site, joining the V-D.net staff, etc. We’ve been humbled by the support and we’re happy to announce that the chance has finally arrived! We are looking for two passionate, reliable, and detail-oriented fans to join the staff of Vampire-Diaries.net (on a volunteer basis!); specifically, we are looking to complete our brand new editorial staff for the Vampire Diaries Wiki. (Congrats to Sola, our new Wiki Managing Editor; Sarah, Assistant Editor; and Erin, Wiki Editor – TV Series.) Getting this section of the site whipped into shape is going to be a huge priority over the next few months; it’ll be cool to get in on the ground floor of the changes being made! We’ll also be re-opening Wiki registration again soon – so stay tuned.
Open positions are listed below; please contact us with desired position in the subject line and include your previous experience and links to examples of your work.
BOTH POSITIONS HAVE BEEN FILLED! Thanks so much to everyone who submitted!
Chloe and Amber over at Vampire Support (along with Jess over at Mystic Falls Tours) have been working on their first project with their Pepsi grant. The Vampire Support T-shirt Project is aiming to raise money for the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, and the Foundation will be earmarking that money for projects with The National Wildlife Federation.
The t-shirt image (to your left) is designed to appeal to vampire fans, and both human and animal rights activists, and can be yours for $25 (including shipping). If you want to check out the design in higher resolution, or order a t-shirt for yourself (and your family and friends, while you’re at it), head on over to Vampire Support. Go on, it’s for a good cause!
The Vampire Diaries fandom is an amazing force for good, with fans pulling out all the stops to contribute to projects like Vampire Support and the Ian Somerhalder Birthday Project (you can read about this past weekend’s Bash on the Bayou event, in support of St. Tammany Humane Society, over at Vampire Diaries Online).
Recently, Ian Somerhalder has been tweeting about setting up his own foundation. We can confirm that this is a very real undertaking and there are big things ahead next month in preparation for the Ian Somerhalder Foundation’s launch. If you’re (somehow) unfamiliar with Ian’s passion for the environment or animals, or you’re wondering what exactly this venture will encompass, read on. He was kind enough to answer a few of our questions about the project, including new information about the established non-profit organizations he will be closely working with, his upcoming contest, and how YOU can get involved with the Foundation.
Vampire-Diaries.net: What are the short term and long term intentions for/goals of the Ian Somerhalder Foundation? Is there a guiding “mission statement”?
Ian Somerhalder: The Foundation’s long-term activities will aim to empower, educate and collaborate with people and projects that positively impact the planet and its creatures. Long-term goals will focus on habitat and biodiversity, clean energy and animals, with specific projects in reforestation, biodiversity, extinction and species-specific sterilization methods of domestic pets. Short-term goals are inviting everyone to get involved, creating teams of passionate volunteers, and fund-raising.

Vampire Support has an exclusive peek at something pretty cool. We’ll let them explain:
Vampire Diaries fans Theressa, Stephanie, & Cynthia – who also happen to be very excited about the environment – sat down with the wonderful Ian Somerhalder last weekend in Miami, Florida during the Hot Topic event.
Ian talks about environmental awareness, his school experience, and how youth can take little steps towards doing their part for the environment. You can watch Part 1 of the two-part interview over at Vampire Support.
The last stop of the Hot Topic Cast Tour with Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder in Miami appears to have been a resounding success (the wristbands were sold out well in advance – congratulations to those lucky devils who got their paws on them). Thanks to gcsri0tgirl, you can see part one and part two of the Q&A session below. We’d give you an earplug warning, but odds are your hearing has already suffered from the previous two tour videos.
