XX Congratulations, TVD fans! You made it through another hiatus. It’s almost time to strap in for an all-new episode of The Vampire Diaries, so if you need to catch up on (or, you know, just rewatch or discuss) anything from Rescue Me (EP517), now is the time.

EPISODE RECAPS:

Sometimes The Vampire Diaries is just a bunch of people doing stuff to mark time until they get to do the more interesting, important stuff. The show is a master at churning plot, but by establishing a series that basically runs on pure plot, sometimes an episode or two is all setup and very little payoff. “Rescue Me” feels like one of those episodes you could simply remove from the season completely without skipping too many beats. It’s not bad; just a bit unnecessary.
The Vampire Diaries:
“Rescue Me”: All setup and no payoff makes TVD a dull show
By Carrie Raisler, A.V. Club

…I really liked “Rescue Me”! Last week’s episode made me very grumpy and I stand by that, but that was because I got so tired of Damon and Elena, plus the whole thing with Caroline becoming a remorseless doppelganger-terminator didn’t rub me the right way at all. But this week served to undo both of those bad impressions, PLUS it injected tons of steroids into the crazy season-long mythology involving the Travelers and also my new favorite characters the BLOND WITCH TWINS. I love the blond witch twins.
