EXTENDED PROMO FOR THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: THE CELL (EP509)

COMPLETE SONGLIST FOR THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: DEAD MAN ON CAMPUS (EP508)

Bonnie may have a lot to deal with after the twist at the end of last week’s episode, but that’s not stopped her from getting a smoking new makeover. Spending the entire Summer in the same outfit must have sucked. Meanwhile, Katherine’s doing good deeds back in Mystic Falls, Matt’s still having problems (but that accent certainly isn’t one of them), and Damon’s about to discover that the complicated secret handshake is only the beginning of the horror that is Whitmore College’s Secret Society.

Once you’ve seen the episode and shaken yourself back to reality, swing by here to rate the new episode of The Vampire Diaries. All discussion about the episode is welcomed and encouraged in the comments of this post.

Quick guide to the poll: 5 Points = LOVE, 1 Point = MEH.

The CW has released the official synopsis for The Vampire Diaries: Fifty Shades of Grayson (EP510), airing Thursday, December 12th. Highlight for spoilers:

DAMON’S PAST RETURNS TO HAUNT HIM — Damon (Ian Somerhalder) realizes Elena (Nina Dobrev) is in danger and enlists Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) help to find her. The brothers pay a visit to Aaron (guest star Shaun Sipos), and Damon shocks Stefan by revealing his first-hand knowledge of Aaron’s family. In an attempt to stop Damon, Dr. Wes (guest star Rick Cosnett) unleashes his secret weapon, forcing Damon to deal with a part of his past he thought was gone forever, as well as the consequences of his decades-long plan for revenge. Meanwhile, Elena is horrified by Dr. Wes’ confessions about the dark history of Whitmore College and his own ultimate goal. Finally, a frantic Katherine (Nina Dobrev) turns to Matt (Zach Roerig) for help, until she realizes that Nadia (guest star Olga Fonda) may be the one who can solve her problem.

The episode was directed by Kellie Cyrus and written by Caroline Dries.

TONIGHT – Vampire Diaries: Dead Man on Campus (EP508) Airs at 8/7c

Looks like someone will be having some well-deserved fun at a college party tonight. As with all big social events on The Vampire Diaries, I’m completely confident that nothing dramatic or terrible will happen at all. Right? Right. Dead Man on Campus (EP508) premieres tonight on the CW at 8/7c.

(Looking for the list of posts from the week? You’ll now find it every Friday in the Friday Night Bites post.)

XX Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley were working overtime in this episode, and poor Ian Somerhalder must be breaking out in a sweat every time he gets a script for fear that he might be next on the double-duty roster. Death and the Maiden deserves a second (and third, and fourth) look just to appreciate our hardworking TVD cast.

EPISODE RECAPS:

For an episode with some heavy storylines and a high death count, Death and the Maiden was a heck of a lot of fun, thanks to bonus Ninas and Pauls, more Katherine and Caroline moments, and the triumphant last moments of two bitter-to-the-end badasses.

Look, you need to know something: “Death and the Maiden” was one of the best episodes of the season so far. It was, it really was. First of all, MULTIPLE doppelgangers got stabbed to death. But also it was exciting and heartfelt and the dialogue was noticeably wonderful.

I’m not sure exactly what the show wanted to say about their central love triangle with the Qetsiyah/Silas/Amara story, but I have a sneaking suspicion it was much closer to the latter question above. Everything about this episode feels like the show declaring that it believes in true love. The tricky part is that the show obviously isn’t ready to declare exactly what that means for Elena. Is her true loved fated, with doppelganger Stefan? Or does Elena have the free will to choose another?
