Damon holding Stefan's journalAs you can probably tell, we’ve given the layout a complete overhaul along with the reinstallation of WordPress. There were a lot of little things that kept niggling at us, and it’s often very difficult to try and modify other people’s code to get it to do what you want it to. So, the solution was for me to build the layout up from scratch so we can do with it what we want to with much more ease.

Both Vee and I have been really taken with what we’ve seen of Stefan’s bedroom in the trailers and promo shots, and so we decided to use that as a base for inspiration for the layout, and went with a journal-esque theme because, well, it’s the Vampire Diaries after all. ;)

The biggest reason for the change was that the site has grown so much bigger than we ever expected it to (which is in no small part down to all you awesome people who send us information, visit the site, comment on articles, and link to our content – thank you!), and because of that we needed a layout that would better suit what we need from it for adding content in a sensible manner. In the near future we’re planning to expand on the information we already have up for both the books and the TV series, as well as add new sections to the site for when the TV series airs: episode guides, music from the series, more in-depth character pages, and other things of that nature.

So those are our plans for the near future. In the immediate future there may be the odd glitch from time to time as we tweak bits here and there, or modifications to plugins might cause random tweets or email notifications to go out. So, apologies in advance, and thanks for your patience. :)

Just a heads-up to let you all know that the site will be going down at some point tomorrow (4th July), likely between 5am and 7am EST. The recent upgrade from WordPress 2.7 to 2.8 has left a few things behind the scenes of the site a little wonky, so I’d decided to save the last few shreds of my sanity and solve it with a fresh install. The site shouldn’t be down for more than 30 minutes, and likely won’t affect most of you. I don’t foresee any problems, but I have the requisite goat on standby. Just in case. ;)

Update: Reinstall seems to have gone relatively smoothly, just tweaking bits now.

The Vampire Diaries TVNo, we’re not dead – just taking a bit of a breather. We said BRING ON THE PROMO and the past few days have certainly obliged! A few things:

A big “Hola!” to our new affiliates: Vampire Diaries Web (a new fansite for the TV series), Nina Dobrev Fan, and Ian Somerhalder Online. And a special shout-out to Jen (of Nina Dobrev Fan) and Eny (of Ian Online) for being so supportive and so cool.

And thanks to everyone who’s been hitting the site like crazy this week; luckily we were prepared for the traffic onslaught. Also, thanks to all of the sites who have been linking to us for more info on all things Vampire Diaries. Now that the TV series is a go, expect lots of analyzing and updates throughout the site. (Especially in the Vampire Diaries Wiki, hurrah!)

Most of you have probably seen these already, but in case you haven’t: CW Upfront and After-Party photos can be seen at Vampire Diaries Web, Nina Dobrev Fan, and Ian Online. Looks like Zach Roerig (who is playing Matt Donovan) was also in New York for the shindig.

There is an alternate promo pic of Somerhalder, Dobrev, and Wesley that you can also see over at Ian Online.

Watch out, we’re planning on taking over the world next! Okay, maybe not. That’s perhaps a little too ambitious. For now… ;)

So, for those of you who live on MySpace, you can now find us there.

http://www.myspace.com/vampirediariesnet

Feel free to add us as friends. We’ll be adding more to it at some point soon once we’re used to it and have things worked out, but for now we have the usual links and an RSS feed to display the news blog on there. We also have a surprisingly static layout – no loud backgrounds or animated gifs to be seen. Hopefully this doesn’t mean we fail at MySpace before we even start. ;)

The Vampire Diaries WikiWe’ve been working on this for the past week, getting mediawiki installed and getting basic article templates up. Now we’re at a point where we think it’s time to invite all of you to contribute to the project.

Announcing: The Vampire Diaries Wiki

Collected here will be information on the books, the TV series, and even the computer game – yes, there was one, check the wiki to find out about it. :)

It is by no means complete, and there’s a lot of information that still needs adding. If you’d like to help out, then please sign up and start adding information. You don’t need to know how to edit a wiki to help, and there are some explanations for you on the main page. Even small things help a great deal, such as adding page references, links to useful websites, and even catching and correcting typos within the articles.

This is not just a project for fans of the books, or fans of the TV series; it’s for everyone. We realise that many fans of the books are not happy with the TV series, and TV fans may in turn not like the books – this is fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. However, it would be wonderful if everyone could get along and cooperate on this project. This has the potential to be something positive for everyone if we let it.

Because we’re getting so many new visitors (we had over 1,000 hits yesterday, wow! Thanks for visiting!), I’m going to take the opportunity to let you know about how you can follow the news we post, where you can go to interact with other fans, and some of the other sections of this site that you may find interesting.

Follow Us

  • Twitter: Any posts we make on this blog automatically ship an alert with a link to the article on twitter.
  • LiveJournal Syndication: If you’re on LJ, just friend the account and you’ll have the articles posted right on your friends list.
  • RSS Feed: The raw feed, for use in the likes of Google Reader, or for setting up syndication on any sites that provide a feed-reading service.
  • Email: Get notifications of blog posts in your inbox.

Interact

  • The Devil’s Playground Forums: This is the place where many L.J. Smith fans hang around to discuss a range of things, from LJS’s books (including the Vampire Diaries) to every day topics that strike our fancy. There is a section set up specifically for the TV series, and it’s kind of empty right now. Posts on the subject would be welcome.
  • TVD Fans: Our LiveJournal community, where we discuss anything and everything Vampire Diaries.

Fanworks

  • Fell’s Church Library: This is a fanfiction archive specifically for the Vampire Diaries. It’s pretty new, so it doesn’t have quite the amount of fics that Twilight Tales does. Yet… ;)
  • Fell’s Church Gallery: An art gallery for people to post their Vampire Diaries-inspired artwork.
  • Icons & Avatars: A selection of Vampire Diaries icons contributed by fans for use on LiveJournal and forums.

There’s more to be found on the site if you explore a bit, and more to come once we have it organised beyond the planning stages. :)

If you know of any other Vampire Diaries communities you think we should be aware of, then please contact us and we’ll look into it.

Vampire-Diaries.netI’ve added a basic Vampire Diaries character bios page in the ‘books’ section. I’ll add more info when necessary at a later date.

I’ve also added an icons page to the ‘fanworks’ section. There are only a few of mine up right now, so I would really appreciate it if people could send me their own icons for inclusion. You can find out more info for doing this on the page.

On a related note, I’d like to be able to set up a wallpaper section at some point soon. If any of you have any Vampire Diaries-themed wallpaper, I’d really appreciate it if you’d let me upload it to the site. Please get in touch with me via the ‘contact’ link at the top of the page if you think you can help.

Twilight Tales has been updated, and there are a couple of Vampire Diaries fics in the update that aren’t in Fell’s Church Library, if anyone is interested.

Vampire-Diaries.netA few general website updates:

* The news blog has category links set up to the side now, for easier navigation of the type of news you want to see.

* The RSS feed has been set up, and is now syndicated on LiveJournal.

* News will also be posted to twitter, with links back to the relevant posts on here.

* A captcha system has been added to the gallery that should prevent the majority of spam bots from signing up and (most importantly) anonymously adding spam comments to your pictures.

* The site menu system was b0rked in IE6. This has been fixed now, but if anyone still has any problems with it, I’d appreciate it if you emailed me or left a comment to let me know about it. Please remember that you need JavaScript enabled for it to work fully, otherwise you’re stuck with the less elegant version. ;)

* Banners and buttons for linking to the site have been added. Any site promotion is always greatly appreciated, thank you. Related to that, you you know of any Vampire Diaries or L.J. Smith sites that I should be linking to, please let me know.

Thanks to everyone for visiting and contributing! :)
