Friday Night Bites is a weekly round-up for various tidbits of show and cast/crew news not quite big enough to warrant a blog post, not strictly Vampire Diaries-related, or that somehow just fell through the cracks. Please insert theme song by Explosions in the Sky here and enjoy.

Don’t like this. Nina here is not cool

  • Georgia_Peach

Loved Nina’s Funny or Die video. Guess it is my sense of humor. I thought everyone did a great job and they were obviously having a “fun” time. It was much better than Maggie Grace’s “driving down the road, while eating a banana”.

Also, voted in the “Tubey Awards”, but not necessarily everything TVD this time around. It definitely did not get my vote for best season finale. : (
However, did not vote TVD for the worst season finale either.
    My favorite character – Damon
    Best badass – Alaric
Best Scene-Stealing Supporting Character – Rebekah
Most Annoying Teenaged Character – Elena Gilbert
Best Performance By An Inanimate Object – White Oak stake that could kill an Original (wished it had been the soccer ball, but I did not see it)

  • a_softsong

I thought it was really good. I wonder if Will Smith wrote that for them. It was very funny and showed that Nina could really have fun. Glad to see her smiling.

  • ihatepeople

I could only vote on some of the Tubey Awards myself because I don’t watch many of the shows they had listed. I definitely can’t stand reality TV either. Anyway some of the choices were interesting.

  • ihatepeople

Yippie! I can finaly reply on my computer with the new Disqus set up. Hopefully it lasts. It can be a pain replying on my phone. :) Anyway, the video was funny and the song was catchy (really long though). It seems weird to me to see Nina acting rather goofy but at least she has a sense of humor. I’m sure it was fun doing something different.

  • a_softsong

Good for you. I know the phone had to be challenging.

Yeah, it was good to see that she was having some fun. Elena is such a solemn character to play. And for most of season three Nina didn’t even have Katherine as an outlet.

  • Lexa

I voted similar to youre votes GP, but I did give the finale the worst vote because for me it was just bad, I just cant get past that bungeled writing, but I do support the actors.

  • TanjaLovesTVD

    Nina´s video… hmm :/

Tubey Awards – sorry, but this time I voted for the best tv show out there: Game of Thrones, credit where credit is due!
Arya Stark (simply the best), Jamie Lannister (OMG this -handsome- male bitch!), Brienne of Tarth (WOW), king Joffrey (without doubt THE MOST ANNOYING teenaged character!!)… and there was NO better season finale!
TVD – S3 was not bad,but tbh: only Stefan and Klaus deserved an award this time,nobody/nothing else.

  • VAMPLOVER1973

Nina’s video was cute…….it was meant as a joke, and I can’t help it, I thought she was adorable:)

I had a hard time with the Tubey’s this year. Normally, I would vote all things positive for TVD, but with the way the season ended, I just couldn’t do it. Keep in mind, I thought everything was pretty good all the way up to the last half of Before Sunset and then The Departed. The Departed, for me, was the worst episode of the season. So, I voted as follows:

Most underrated show: NCIS- It’s a good show with a solid fanbase. It get’s consistant ratings every Tuesday, but not much from the critics.

Best Season Finale: The Walking Dead- Now that was a high octane finale. Honorable mentions go to Game of Thrones & Breaking Bad. This one was a tough one for me, because I really had to think which finale kept me on the edge of my seat. The Walking Dead did that, followed by Breaking Bad and then The Game of Thrones.

Most Painful Series Cancellation: That went to Ringer. I liked the show once it got going and was sad to see it go.

Worst Season Finale: TVD- for reasons I’ve been complaining about since the damn thing aired.

Most Anticipated New Show: The Following. Kevin Williamson is writing it, and the format is going to be like 24- air straight through from January to May, with no breaks. KW + serial killers= a massive hit;)

Best Badass: Vampire Alaric- maybe I’m just sentimental, but I can’t help it. Vampire Alaric was a badass;)

Best performance by an inanimate object: That once went to Breaking Bad and the cigarette filled with Ricin. If you watch the show, you’ll know why;)

Most Improved Show: True Blood. Last season rocked and this one’s looking pretty good;)

Most Disappointing Season of a Previously Awesome Show: I was going to vote for TVD, but I just couldn’t because I thought the majority of the season was pretty good. So, I couldn’t vote for it based on the complete fail of 1 1/2 episodes. As a matter of fact, I didn’t vote at all.

Favorite Character: Damon Salvatore- TVD, of course.

Best Scene Stealing Supporting Character: Rebekah- TVD. She freaking rocked this part from the time we met her in Affair to Remember, till the very end. At least one could understand her motivations for doing what she did;)

Least Favorite Character: Joffrey Baratheon- Game of Thrones. Somebody needs to put the kid king out of my misery;)

Most Annoying Teenage Character: Well, that one went to Elena Gilbert….and if she’s this annoying as a human, just imagine how she’ll be as a vampire;) It it amplified by a million, right?

  • VAMPLOVER1973

The Soccer Ball would have got my vote for the Best Performance by an Inanimate Object, too. I couldn’t vote for the stake because it was being used to kill my Originals, and seeing as how I didn’t want them to die…you get what I mean. I went with the risen filled cigarette on Breaking Bad;)

  • a_softsong

Exactly the same except for the white oak stake. I chose the book in Once Upon A Time. Otherwise, the same.

  • Georgia_Peach

I don’t want my Originals killed either. Losing Finn was bad enough. The ricin filled cigarette on Breaking Bad was a very close second for me. By the way, I love Breaking Bad and cannot wait for it to start back up on July 15th. Also, for best season finale I voted for the Walking Dead. That was definitely “high octane”, but it was very close on which one would get my vote for that category…. Breaking Bad or Walking Dead. :)

  • VAMPLOVER1973

Ha! I’ve been watching The Walking Dead marathon on AMC this weekend, and they keep showing scenes from Breaking Bad…..it’s like the promotion department is taunting & teasing me;) Can’t wait till next Sunday night….it’s going to be freaking awesome:)

Breaking Bad’s finale was B.A.D. A.S.S., too. That’s why I has such a hard time with that category on The Tubies. But I went with The Walking Dead because that was the one I was screaming at my TV on. Breaking Bad was close, no lie. But I’ve watched the finale of TWD like six times, and it gets me every time:)

I think in real life she is pretty goofy haha. I remember she tweeted this funny picture of herself in a dinosaurs mouth at Universal Studios a month or so ago.

  • a_softsong

Nina grew up in the hip hop world. She is only 23 years old. This is part of who she is, too.

  • ihatepeople

People who can laugh at themselves are typically happier. :)

  • ihatepeople

Yeah I voted for vampire Alaric and Damon too. How could we not? Elena of course was the most annoying because of her wishy washy behavior and her moronic decisions.

  • Charlotte

Elena is young and she’s going to make mistakes. She was forced to grow up before her time, just like everyone in Mystic Falls. All of these kids don’t even get a chance to be just that, and fans are hating on all of the characters because they make decisions based on their own beliefs, staying true to themselves.

As a writer, I know sometimes characters change and develop on their own. They grow into these people that make you want to keep them around, or rather, they will not be killed. They take on a life of their own, and it’s amazing to experience that. I enjoy watching these characters unfold, and Nina does a great job in the role of Elena — who has her flaws, but she also has this propensity for forgiveness, compassion, and seeing the good in others. She tries to make the right decisions, but let’s not forget that she is just a kid. She’s not much younger than I am, but she is so wise and good.

Others fail to recognize that her decisions rarely ever get a chance to play out. It was always the actions of others not trusting her that have changed the outcome. A lot of stuff isn’t her fault.

(John contacted Isobel, who contacted Klaus.)

I am beginning to think that Damon and Elena’s meeting is more important than we know at this moment. It wasn’t just Damon’s reason for fighting back. It was possibly the catalyst for Elena’s parents’ vehicle going off Wickery Bridge. Maybe she was meant to die, and if she had, none of the carnage that occurred would have happened.

There must be a reason, right? I’m looking forward to Season Four. Already speculating, lol.

  • whoneedsthecullens

Interesting insight into Elena, thanks, Charlotte. I used to love browsing through the comments but since the finale it’s not so much fun anymore. So many people are bashing on the writers, and although I was not really happy with the finale (because I want to see Damon happy for once), from a storytelling-perspective I found it quite effective and well-done. And Elena IS the kid who wants to protect everyone except for herself, so her final decision was quite in character.
I hope you are right – the first meeting between Damon and Elena could mean hell of a lot more than we think. Yet.
I am also looking forward to Season 4!!

  • lola.rose17

i agree 100% with you .that was my thoughts of elena all the time.some of the fans hates her just because she didnt get between damons sheets ,seriously.she has not recovered from her parents death and was thrown into situation to fight for her life and every body she care for,and she is only 17.when i was watching se 3 i thought she will choose damon but i wasn’t sure its the right decision because it was like filling empty space left by stefan, and i thought there is too much happened between her and stefan to be back again.i thought the best option is to step back from both of them.but her chosen stefan shows her need to peace and comfort ,a corner in her life where she can catch her breath, what scared her from damon is they way he challenges her ,doesn’t give her space.also i think there meeting is important for se4 ,im sure there is going to be some secrets
revealed.i refuse to believe their scene in heart of darkness is just lust and im sad it was shown like that . elena and damon love is like a plant growing and rooting in hard condition, wind ,rain, burning sun( desert or between hard rocks on snowy mountain),but i hope it will blossom one day to beautiful red roses
p.s my three kids 17,14 and 12 thinks nina video is embarrassing , definitely not a rapper.my 17 thinks she is better of with makeup advert and fashions, i wish she can be on vogue cover one day.

  • Georgia_Peach

There are more “new” tubey awards up to be voted on.

  • GermanTVDFan

I fully agree with you, whoneedsthecullens and Charlotte. Our crew now is back in Hotlanta (ian’s twitter) and starts production of season 4.
