Friday Night Bites is a weekly round-up for various tidbits of show and cast/crew news not quite big enough to warrant a blog post, not strictly Vampire Diaries-related, or that somehow just fell through the cracks. Please insert theme song by Explosions in the Sky here and enjoy.

Wow! Love the scruffy beard look on Daniel. Very sexy.

Aw Ian and his kitty. How sweet. Looks like my cat Badger. Those ginger tabbies are so friendly.

Looking forward to Matt Davis’ new show. That thriller type series is right up my alley. Here is hoping he has a long run. ;)

Sorry to those of you who were fans of the Secret Circle. It sucks when a show you’re into gets cancelled. I’ve had a few over the years.

I love Klaus and JM and anything about him <3

I dont agree with the character analysis on Klaus, that E news woman did a much better job.

Daniel Gillies is just so very appealing. It’s ridiculous.

Can you provide a link to the E news woman analysis? I wrote the blog post and I’d like to contrast it with hers. Thanks!

I agree with you. I think the character analysis on Klaus is definitely a different take on him, but I don’t agree with it. The Klaus-Caroline birthday scene wasn’t contrived. He saved her because he saw something in her he liked, something like potential and an appetite for life.  Caroline is somewhat of a blank canvas to Klaus, she hasn’t experienced much outside of Mystic Falls, and he sees that she wants more than a small town life.  Like he said, it isn’t going to be enough for her.  I don’t see them as a romantic couple.  I think it’s bigger than romance.  He wants to show Caroline what life is like on their scale.
I think deep down, Klaus knows that the quality of companionship is based on someone’s willingness to be there with you and for you. That’s why he waited so long to actually compel Stefan to turn his humanity off.  He was hoping he didn’t have to resort to that with Stefan, he was hoping for a real friend. He knows the value of a sired hybrid whose loyalty is based on fear and coercion is not of the same quality as companions whose loyalty is based on conviction and genuine feeling. I think it’s interesting that they’ve built him up to be a very methodical, calculating, paranoid, powerful, ruthless villain, but we saw him let his defenses down as he spent more time with his family. Klaus wants to reunite his family.  That motivation is admirable.  It’s how he wants to do it that makes him a villain.  And that’s what makes me conflicted about him:  I want him to get what he wants, but I don’t want him to do it at the expense of our heroes and human life.

I liked yours better. I definitely see Klaus as an awesome villain but his actions are not just the actions of someone scared of being alone… he really does enjoy causing fear and pain.

I never could get into the secret circle, I liked Faye and Diana’s characters but pretty much disliked everyone else or couldn’t bring myself to care about them, the show had great potential though, I liked the concept just not so much how it was carried out.
