Cynthia over at SFUniverse has a brief interview with Katerina; she talks about what attracted her to the role of Bonnie, how she’d react if she really had psychic powers, and touches on something we’re sure will set a particular segment of fandom all a-flutter:
Stefan or Damon — which would you choose?
Katerina: And I know they’re vampires? I don’t know if I could choose. Say something happened between Bonnie and Stefan or Bonnie and Damon, at that point it wouldn’t be a struggle between them but a struggle inside herself, between right and wrong. Maybe that might come across in the next season or two and the fans will have to experience it with me because I have no clue how Bonnie would react to that.
411Mania speaks with Candice about auditioning, preparing for fame, her past projects, and of course Caroline:
Al Norton: How different is Caroline from who you thought she was when you auditioned for her?
Candice Accola: She’s different. When you audition you get these descriptions that are really blunt. “The frenemy who is jealous and catty”. But the when you get the script, Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec do such a great job with the writing that none of the characters are stereotypical. They have such great layering and everyone is much more relatable than you might think.

Man, there must be some really hungry vampires out there right now. @RedCrossBloodGA have reported that they’ve managed to collect over 1330 pints of blood so far in Georgia with the Vampire Diaries blood drives, and there are still 20 more drives scheduled to take place. They also achieved what they’re calling a record for them at the Georgia Tech blood drive, with 500 pints of blood donated. How cool is that?
With less than 24 hours to go until the series premieres (and where on earth has the past six months vanished to?!), there are lots of reviews and such pinging around the internet. A lot of them say the same things, and we’ll be here all night if we try and list every single one, so we’re just going to post a selection of them here for you to get stuck into.
Television Without Pity have up a fun (if a little inaccurate) article comparing various bits of the Vampire Diaries, True Blood and Twilight (fair warning, the article contains book spoilers). They’ve also added a Vampire Diaries section to their forums, so head on over for some TWoP-style discussion.
The New York Times have up a positive and amusing review that suggests (among other things) that Paul Wesley resembles Matt Dillon (points given for not comparing Paul to the usual suspects, points immediately retracted for making us feel so old), and that Damon seems like the kind of guy to steal mittens from eight-year-olds. Quite why he’d want to and what he’d do with the mittens, we don’t know, but the scenario that conjures up is hilarious.
There are more, which we’ll link to quickly. Variety have gone the punny route with their review (though they reckon the series is worth a look), while Starpulse‘s review looks more into the TV series compared with the books. The Los Angeles Times seem to be digging the whole gothic romance angle of the series, and Zap2it really seem to like Candice Accola’s portrayal of Caroline Forbes.
Hopefully tomorrow is going to provide us with some interesting and entertaining news in the run-up to the premiere, and we’ll be setting up the blog and forums ready for you guys to tell us all what you think of the Vampire Diaries pilot once you’ve seen it.
As of right now, there are 19 hours, 46 mins and 37 seconds left to wait. ;)

We’ve blogged a lot of cast interviews over the past few months, but we couldn’t help but notice that we had yet to hear from one person: Michael Trevino, aka Tyler Lockwood, aka @M_Trevino, aka the subject of possibly my favorite Julie Plec tweet ever. So last night we asked Michael if he’d want to field a few questions from fans via Twitter to fill this unfortunate void in premium Tyler Time, and he not only obliged, he went above and beyond. Thanks to fans who sent questions our way and thanks to Michael for being so awesome. I almost feel bad about throwing in the Waffle House question. Almost.
What do you find special about The Vampire Diaries?
What makes Vampire Diaries so special is that we’re going to be able to bring you drama, romance, suspense, sex, drugs, murder, and suspicion every week. Even better, you don’t have to have cable to watch us on the regular. (Wink, wink.)
What made you want to audition for Tyler?
I went out for Stefan and Damon early on in the audition process. Finally, in the end, I think the bad boy image I brought to Tyler won over Kevin and Julie. Tyler has been both a fun and interesting character to play thus far.

As if we needed something else to make us even more excited about tomorrow night, the CW come out with a hot, new Vampire Diaries poster that we’re really digging. It’s a variation on the threesome picture from the Love Sucks photoshoot that manages to be both smoulderingly sexy and heart-stoppingly sweet at the same time. Awesome stuff. Is it tomorrow night, yet? ;)

If you’ve been waiting for Nina to lay it all out there in regards to the TV series’ Elena not being blonde or a bitch, this new interview with Sci Fi Wire ought to help clear up some misconceptions. She addresses not only the physical differences between her and her book counterpart, but explains why the showrunners felt it was necessary to give Elena a personality makeover:
“And the thing about my character specifically is that she was depicted in the books as kind of an insensitive bitch, when you think about it. She was the queen bee of the high school. In order for the audience to even want to root for her, they have to like her. So they made specific changes to address that. They wanted Elena to be nicer and more sympathetic. And the physical aspect, I’m not blonde or blue-eyed by any means. I guess that just wasn’t that important to them. There was no discussion about me dyeing my hair or wearing contact lenses.”
She also touches on working with Kevin Williamson and her hopes for the show (complete with a fantastic tease for viewers/readers).
