In typical Thursday tradition, the news likes to attack us while we prepare for the next episode of the Vampire Diaries airing. This is also a pretty spoiler-heavy post, so we apologise in advance for looking like someone blacked-out a government document with coffee. ;)
First up, episode 14 has a title – Fool Me Once! – and was written by newcomer to the Vampire Diaries, Brett Conrad, and directed by Marcos Siega. We also have a synopsis, courtesy of KryptonSite’s Vampire Diaries site.
SECRETS OF THE TOMB — Stefan helps Elena and Bonnie out of a dangerous situation. Jeremy asks Anna to a party in the woods, unaware that she has her own reasons for wanting to meet him there. When Stefan, Damon and Elena work with Bonnie and Grams to open the tomb, everyone is shocked by what they discover.
There was a lot of interesting information revealed at the Vampire Diaries TCA panel earlier this month, but Fancast have revealed that there are a couple more little tidbits that are interesting in their own right, but even more interesting to fans of the books. You can read the whole thing over at Fancast, but we’re going to highlight the interesting spoilers here:
On Tyler:
All the speculation about Ty is right. Says Williamson, “If you read the books you know the character that has the curse. And it’s a repressed curse triggered by one particular activity that hasn’t happened yet. Its no secret its Tyler, and as we reveal the full moon and his aggression issues, we’ll let him explore his anger issues, his Daddy issues.”
Founders Day:
Damon will continue his attempts to resurrect Katherine. Williamson reveals, “We’re building towards the Founders Day celebration and the 150th anniversary of this town. It’s a happy little party but then there’s this tomb business to deal with, and there’s 26 vampires down there. The whole back nine focuses on that tomb.”
As if we weren’t excited enough already with “Bloodlines” tonight and the next few episodes, now we have this to keep our minds spinning with the possibilities. ;)

Vampire Diaries TV recapper Carina MacKenzie’s interview with Nina Dobrev is up at the LA Times. They cover a lot of ground, from auditioning, living in Atlanta, and leaving Degrassi, to her inspiration behind Katherine, Elena’s discovery about her resemblance to Katherine in The Turning Point, and what fans can expect in upcoming episodes. (She also divulges her favorite episode so far.)
You’ve got a rare opportunity as an actress to be able to play two characters in one show and explore the different ways that Elena and Katherine interact with the brothers. Is there anything that Elena and Katherine have in common?
At this point, I don’t think so. At one point, Stefan describes Katherine and then he talks to someone else about Elena, and he points out their differences. Katherine was very conniving, she was narcissistic, she acted out of her own benefit and for her own selfish needs. She used these two boys as her toys. They were toys for her, and she had a lot of fun with them. I’m so lucky — I just love this show.
Digital Spy’s Tube Talk has posted their own interview with Nina, where she gives her thoughts on Elena’s future, her relationship with Stefan, and pulling double duty in playing both Elena and Katherine. Check out the piece and watch the interview below:

Vampire Diaries TV fans, your long hiatus nightmare is over. Grab your favorite snack, your favorite blanket or loved one (yes, cats count), and nestle into the couch for the first new episode since November 19th: Bloodlines airs at 8/7c on the CW. When we last left the Mystic Falls crew, Elena’s world had been turned upside down (quite literally), Stefan was left questioning why he didn’t do a “just in case” quick-clean at Mossy Manse, and Damon was out in the middle of the woods being…well, Damon. And let’s not forget the rest of the crew, with the head, nose and heart trauma, raging parental issues, lingering glances and coy smiles. And what is up with that way creepy pop and lock action in the middle of the road?
Oh, and did we mention this kick-ass lady? (Points to blog photo.) Not to mention the slew of new faces we’re set to meet tonight. The Vampire Diaries is back and “the Tomb Chapter” starts now.
And we’d like to take the time to remind you about this, which heads to Atlanta THIS WEEKEND (click the graphic for more details):

Yesterday we saw the cover, and now today we have scans of the TV Guide Magazine interview in that same issue, thanks to the lovely Denise.
We particularly like this quote from the article:
It’s Team Damon versus Team Stefan! Whom do you think fans want Elena to be with?
Wesley: I’m president of the Team Damon fan club. I have a Facebook page as 13-year-old Ashley, who subtly manipulates people into hating Damon.
Somerhalder: [Laughter] So that’s why you yell at me to go away when I knock on your door!
You can also read the main interview over on TV Guide Magazine if scans aren’t your thing.
Katerina Graham had a chat with the Associated Press, and you can see what she has to say about the show and Damon in the video. There’s also a teeny extra road trip snippet at the end.

Digital Spy’s Tube Talk has posted their interview with Paul Wesley (following up yesterday’s chat with Ian Somerhalder). Paul talks good-naturedly about the slippery slope of producers and writers unafraid to kill off main characters, why Elena is the obvious choice over Katherine, and how he’d like to see Stefan engage in some role reversal with Damon.
MTV’s Hollywood Crush has exclusive outtakes from the NYLON photoshoot, as well as more quotes from the article:
Costar Michael Trevino, who plays troubled Tyler Lockwood, had another vampire series in mind when he heard the show’s premise. “I think the majority of our cast was kind of like ‘Vampire Diaries’? Really? There’s already a ‘Twilight;’ is this going to be like trying to make a fake ‘True Blood’?”
See the pics and read the article.

As we reported last month, Vampire Diaries is set to be honored at the 2010 William S. Paley Television Festival in Los Angeles this year, and we now have a set date! The Vampire Diaries event will be held on Saturday, March 6th at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills.

Vampire Diaries is one of several shows (including Glee, Modern Family, Community, Lost, Dexter, NCIS, Cougar Town, Breaking Bad, Seth MacFarlane & friends, FlashForward, Men of a Certain Age, and Curb Your Enthusiasm) being honored at this year’s Fest. The Fest gives fans the opportunity to hear the cast and production team talk about the show in-person and usually see some behind the scenes goodies.
Tickets for Paley members go on sale this Friday, January 22nd, and tickets for non-members will be available Sunday, January 24th. You can find more information at the PaleyFest website.
Thanks to The Televixen for the heads up!

Thanks to @CWVampDiaries for the heads up on this video interview with Ian Somerhalder, courtesy of Digital Spy’s Tube Talk. He discusses the Stefan/Elena/Damon dynamic, why Damon would make an excellent boyfriend, and how “the Katherine thing is very difficult for Damon right now.” Watch the @TubeTalk Twitter for links to their upcoming interviews with Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley.

MTV’s Hollywood Crush has an ever-so-rare chat with Steven R. McQueen about what’s in store for Jeremy on upcoming episodes of The Vampire Diaries. He has wonderful things to say about Malese Jow, who will be guest starring as Anna (J’s potential love interest?), calling her “very talented and very sweet.”
And we know from reading your comments in the blog and posts in the forum that what Damon did to Jeremy is a huge, HUGE point of interest, and you’ll be happy to know Steven plays a bit coy on that front (spoilery!):
It was way back in 2009, but you may recall that earlier in the season, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) pulled his special vampire brainwash-y powers out to erase Jeremy’s memory of his girlfriend Vicki’s death. The catch is, it’s not exactly clear what Damon did. “That’s something that’s going to unfold itself a little later in the series,” Steven said. “[Damon] did erase my pain and my grief and such, but I’m not sure what I can reveal of just how much he shut out of my memory — and if he put anything in there.” (Dun Dun Dun… )
And @LilMissX is being very, very good to Vampire Diaries fans in anticipation of the show’s return this Thursday. Check out our first look at Mia Kirshner as Isobel, Alaric’s wife, in this still (we know Isobel is set to debut in Bloodlines, but we’re not 100% positive that’s what the still is from) with Matt Davis (Alaric):

UPDATE: Thanks to KryptonSite, we now know the Alaric/Isobel still is from an upcoming episode called A Few Good Men.
According to this ITV2 press release, it looks like UKers can look forward to a Tuesday, February 2nd debut for The Vampire Diaries. And it gets better: The channel will be kicking off with a 9-11 p.m. double header of the pilot and Night of the Comet. Smart move, we say.
Speaking of air dates: The Vampire Diaries kicks off in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria tomorrow night! Though I suppose it’s already January 20th in your neck of the woods, so… Enjoy the show!
With all of the TVD cast appearances in magazines lately, we thought you might want to check out Katerina Graham pontificating on the particulars of her beauty bag in this Seventeen video, and Nina Dobrev Fan has nice, watermark-free scans from Nina’s very pink fashion spread in SELF.

You have to give the Vampire Diaries a lot of credit for many things – writing, acting, directing – but we’ve got to say we really appreciate their attention to set detail. From Stefan’s room, props in “Family Ties” and the lush costumes used in flashback scenes. The sneak peeks for “Children of the Damned” (episode 13) that we’ve had so far appear to be the tip of the iceberg, because these new episode stills are full of some amazing costumes. Click on the thumbnails below, or head over to our “Children of the Damned” gallery.
UPDATE: As if the stills aren’t enough, BuzzSugar has a great quote from Nina Dobrev about Katherine (via the TCAs) that we hadn’t seen before. Spoilery!
Nina on what we can expect from Katherine: “There’s going to be an episode soon where you see a lot more Katherine. And you see how crazy she is, and how everything she does is for herself. Like boys, and how she likes to use them for her toys. They’re just there for her amusement.”

Two days left, and we’re delighted to find that Ian, Nina and Paul are on the cover of not one, but two magazines today – TV Guide Magazine and NYLON.

The NYLON website has a few snippets from their February 2010 feature of the Vampire Diaries, and also a few pictures from the photoshoot.
Finally, fans in Spain can mark their calendars for the premiere of the show: February 11 on the TNT channel. (Thanks, @matx88!)
