Leah Pipes as CamiBetween her uncle Kieran, Klaus, and Marcel, Cami has a lot going on on The Originals right now, and actress Leah Pipes spoke with TV Guide about her character’s approach to the situation:

“She’s pretty desperate at this point so she’s taking some drastic measures — you see her at her wit’s end,” Pipes tells TVGuide.com. “It’s been a very emotional arc. But I think she has this wonderful ability of refusing to hit rock bottom. Her family life has been through many trials and tribulations, and the fact that she doesn’t give up and continues to fight on makes her really interesting. She’s not allowing herself to wallow in her own despair, and instead she’s trying to solve the problem.”

And she also has some interesting things to say about Cami’s feelings toward Klaus and Marcel . . .

XXPreviously on The Originals, New Orleans proudly continued the Mystic Falls tradition of The Place For Violence Is Parties. Everyone looked stunning, but it all went to hell in the end, because of course it did. We’ve got another new episode rolling in tonight, so here’s your chance to catch up on The Big Uneasy (EP118).

EPISODE RECAPS:

Happy Fête des Bénédictions! Here’s the good news: The hiatus is finally over and The Originals is back. The bad news: We now have only four episodes left in our inaugural season. In a clear move towards weaving to the May 13th finale, Tuesday night’s The Big Uneasy pulled several dangling plot threads together, and its final twist brought it all back to what started this crazy trip in the first place: Hayley and Klaus’s child.

The reason The Originals has an undue burden when it comes to set-up is that it attempts to mask information and state-of-the-character scenes as rip-roarin’ adventure. Sometimes that works, and sometimes it doesn’t. The main way to know whether you’re watching a successful set-up episode is if you’re not bored. Sorry if you were expecting a more scientific explanation. Were you bored during “The Big Uneasy”? I wasn’t! It was a very good example of a set-up episode. By the end, we knew more about what people wanted and why and how they intended to get it—all of which was exciting to our brains, even if not much happened.

New York might be called the city that never sleeps, but with all the wars being waged on so many different fronts in New Orleans, that title might as well be given to the Big Easy as well. The supernaturals there never get a break.

Building a serialized story without history doesn’t work. The whole point is history. There needs to be change, growth, and progress, yes, but those need to build on what happened before. Otherwise, they’re just a bunch of things that happen. This is a common problem for a fast-paced show like The Originals, especially since it happened regularly over on The Vampire Diaries. Very little is more infuriating than a show seeming to deliberately forget its own story in order to make its current one run more smoothly.

Vampire Diaries In Review: Resident Evil (EP518) - Trouble in ParadiseIf there’s one thing we’ve learned from this show over the past five seasons, it’s to never trust a prophecy. Resident Evil marks the directorial debut of Paul Wesley, and the guy got stuck with not only presenting us the usual complicated TVD reality, but the Other Side in flux and a fantasy-life world that never was. And luckily for us, he knows exactly what he’s doing.
