We had suspected that the last 2011 episode of The Vampire Diaries would air on November 10, and now we have it straight from the horse’s mouth. Julie Plec tweeted that Homecoming (EP309) would in fact be the last episode to air this year, and The Vampire Diaries will return with episode 310 on January 5, 2012.

Before we get to our regularly scheduled download links, yet another reminder that there has been no official announcement concerning the U.K. air date for Season 3 of The Vampire Diaries. We do know that last week’s premiere was posted to iTunes U.K. on Monday and logic dictates that The Hybrid will also be posted to the service after this weekend. (UPDATE: The Hybrid is now available on iTunes UK! Link below.) We will not speculate or give generalizations about when we think the show will be back or when to expect a premiere announcement. Trust us: The minute ITV2 announces the return of Vampire Diaries to U.K. screens, every single fansite in this fandom will plaster it all over the internet. We know it sucks, U.K. fans. Hang in there!
Canadian fans can watch the episode over at the CTV website or at MuchMusic.
In case you missed ‘em:
- Reaction post & poll: The Hybrid (EP302)
- Complete songlist for The Hybrid (EP302)
- Short promo + extended promo for The End of the Affair (EP303)

Great news, everyone! We now have a date for when season 3 of the Vampire Diaries hits screens again in the USA! Mark your calendars, September 15th at 8/7c! Hopefully we’ll hear about international air dates before too long now. Don’t forget that the Vampire Diaries will be partnered up with another project helmed by Kevin Williamson based on an L.J. Smith series: The Secret Circle will be airing right after at 9/8c. Want more news on the Secret Circle? Head on over to TheSecretCircle.net!
From the press release:
On Thursday, September 15, The CW’s #1 show, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) returns, followed by new drama THE SECRET CIRCLE (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET), also from executive producer Kevin Williamson and based on a series of books by author L.J. Smith. Britt Robertson stars as Cassie, an orphaned teenage girl who discovers the truth about her lineage – she’s a witch who holds the key to an ancient battle between good and evil.

Good news, UK fans. The return date for the Vampire Diaries was announced this afternoon by @itv2: Tuesday, 1st February at 9pm on ITV2. Yes, that’s right, we’ll be seeing the episodes here in the UK only a few days after the episodes have aired in the US, and a day after Australia (and the show returns for you guys on January 31st on the GO! Channel). No more running and hiding from spoilers for weeks on end.
As suspected, Vampire Diaries Online were able to confirm that Ian Somerhalder’s appearance on Jimmy Fallon tonight has had to be cancelled due to the knock-on effects of the recent Atlanta Snowpocalypse and scheduling changes.
Finally, the folks over at TV Guide’s Mega Buzz have a few words to say on the upcoming vampire/werewolf war on the show, and it looks like Jules may be starting to mark her territory a bit where it comes to her own kind.
