Ian Somerhalder took some time to chat with TV Fanatic recently, and he had a lot to say about a certain much-missed history teacher. He also answers an interesting question about Damon’s relationship with Elena and touches on his real-life charity work.
“Losing Alaric signifies something bigger, it raises much bigger questions in Damon’s world,” the actor explains. “He wonders: ‘Why are you dead? What did I do to contribute to it?’”

TV Guide caught up with Matt Davis to chat about Alaric’s complicated love life (will the guy ever catch a break?), which Salvatore brother he’d choose to kill, his favorite kills, and why Vampire Diaries is a lot like Survivor.
TV Guide Magazine: Have you had a favorite kill so far?
Davis: I haven’t been doing much killing lately, so I would have to say that my favorites are whenever Damon kills me.TV Guide Magazine: And that happens so often! How many times has Alaric died already?
Davis: I don’t know, five or six. It’s like a regular thing.

We’ll have to wait a few weeks for the next episode of The Vampire Diaries, but TVLine talked to Julie Plec and got some hints about what we might be seeing in March. Great big spoilers for All My Children (EP315). Julie talks a little about the upcoming flashback episode, the ongoing concerns about Alaric’s ring, and the life expectancy of one Dr. Meredith Fell.
Plec says that unlike most Vampire guest stars (who have an end date from the get-go), Torrey DeVitto’s Meredith is sticking around for the foreseeable future. “With Meredith, [the story] has been ever-evolving,” she muses. “It’s possible [the character could become a permanent fixture] — or she could die a horrific, violent and tragic death.”
