The CW has added two awesome new video promos that include clips from The Vampire Diaries. You’ll have to watch closely (and maybe repeat them a few times) because they move pretty fast. Think you guys can handle that? We know it’s a real hardship, but please, support the show. ;)

Update: We’ve replaced the videos with the official CW YouTube versions, for the benefit of international fans. Thanks to commenter Thirsty Like a Vamp for letting us know they’d been posted!

Here’s the first one, Turn It On.

It’ a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it. Here’s CW promo video number two, Men At Work.

Zap2It Talks Meredith, Damon & Alaric's Tragic Love Life With Torrey DeVittoLast week, a long-awaited (and much-beloved) book character finally made her TV series debut and Zap2It has a thorough and excellent interview with Vampire Diaries newcomer Torrey DeVitto, aka Dr. Meredith Fell. While Torrey cautions that there will be inevitable differences between book!Meredith and TV!Meredith, she has read the Vampire Diaries books and understands why her arrival is kind of a big deal.

Good news, Meredith fans — your favorite is in good hands, as DeVitto is, herself, a fan of the novels. “Well, when the pilot came around, I picked up the series and actually read the entire series without stopping,” she tells us. “I had just finished the ‘Twilight’ books and was so smitten with Edward, so I saw that this was vampires and I was like, ‘Great! I’ll read all of them!’”

That said, of course, she’s intentionally creating some distance between the book character and the TV writers’ reinterpretation. “I remember Meredith, but I don’t remember her completely and perfectly,” she says. “She’s very different on the show, so I didn’t really go back into the books and re-read, because I didn’t want to get too many conflicting ideas. I thought that was so cool to come on and not only be a part of the show, but also, I’m honored to be a part of something that the book’s fans are going to recognize and hopefully appreciate.”

Torrey also reflects on Dr. Fell’s involvement with Alaric “Has Bourbon, Will Mourn” Saltzman and his less-than-rosy love life (hint: his love interests turn into vampires and die), the potentially tense interaction between Meredith and Damon (YAY), coming to The Vampire Diaries three seasons in after being part of the off-screen TVD family, and her dedication to raising awareness about hospice care and Global Roots (alongside Paul Wesley). We also can’t help but wonder if the good doctor will be the one to finally restore respect for Fells amongst the Founding Families…and stuff.

XXFirst off, BEWARE OF SPOILERS IN BOTH ARTICLES.

Still with us? Good! If you’re little confused about where we left off a few weeks ago, don’t worry, Entertainment Weekly is ready to catch you up -and vault you forward- before tonight’s episode. They’ve got some great insights from Julie Plec about what’s ahead as we return to Mystic Falls. From the sound of things, life is about to get pretty interesting for one Mr. Alaric Saltzman.

…”But it’s going to be fun to see Alaric, after all this time [RIP, Jenna], notice a beautiful woman in his vicinity and have a response to her. He’s become more and more of a guardian figure to Elena and Jeremy, and so, of course, Elena is gonna be rootin’ for him to have someone.”

TV Line is also looking ahead, and they also went to Julie for some answers. She’s got some things to say about Elena and Damon, a possible romance for Klaus, and Tyler’s new sire issues. She’s also got some dish about the coffins that’s sure to get fans’ attention.

“At least one of those daggered Originals is coming out of those coffins,” teases Plec. “That will happen sooner than later.

Which Original is getting unboxed? We have no idea and Julie won’t say, looks like we’ll all just have to watch and see. Good thing it’s Thursday, just a few more hours to wait!

Torrey DeVitto as Dr FellTorrey DeVitto, who is set to appear in the January 5th episode of the Vampire Diaries, The New Deal, chatted with TV Fanatic about her character, the curious Dr. Fell, and her upcoming relationship with Alaric.

DeVitto said she has watched The Vampire Diaries off and on – she is married to star Paul Wesley, after all – but she wasn’t familiar with Alaric’s extraordinarily bad (read: deadly) history with women to date. Will Mary survive the relationship?

“For the sake of his character alone, I hope so,” she laughed. “Hopefully I don’t burn up in flames or try to kill him or anything. He deserves a better ending than he’s had.”

XXHiatus drags on, but every day we’re getting closer to January 5th and the return to Mystic Falls. To help tide you over, Zap2it has some insight from Julie Plec about what’s coming up for Caroline and Tyler, why Elena and Alaric are getting worried about Jeremy, and some hints about Bonnie’s as-yet-unseen mom.

“Tyler and Caroline have a lot to overcome,” Julie says. “Because Tyler, on his own, has a lot to overcome. It’s pretty bleak, right now, and it’s only going to start to get bleaker before it gets better. “

In case you missed it, Persia White has already been cast as Bonnie’s mom, and we can’t wait to see her in action when the show resumes!

Vampire Diaries Mid-Season Return Preview in TV Guide MagazineWe know you’re getting restless for the return of The Vampire Diaries, but TV Guide Magazine comes to the rescue with a brief preview of what we can expect starting Thursday, January 5th with The New Deal (EP310). Here’s a taster from the article (which also mentions Torrey DeVitto‘s upcoming arc and The Vampire Diaries coming in at #4 in the magazine’s Fan Favorites poll) via Julie Plec (out of respect for the UK viewers getting Homecoming next Tuesday, we’ll put it behind a spoiler block):

“Mystic Falls is in the hands of Klaus. Stefan and Klaus want to destroy each other, but they’re unwilling to face the consequences if things go wrong. It is a Mexican standoff.”

The piece also touches on what to expect with Elena, Tyler and Caroline, Alaric, and Bonnie and features a new episode still of Damon and Elena. Pick up the December 8-15 issue (Fan Favorite winner Community on the over) at your local newsstand. Thanks to Denise for the article!

If you’re keeping track, these are post-hiatus episode titles we know so far: The New Deal (EP310), Our Town (EP311), and thanks to director Jeffrey Hunt, we know he’s handling Bringing Out The Dead (EP313). (Speaking of, he’s tweeting from the TVD set, so follow him on Twitter: @HuntVision.)

UPDATE: And we can now confirm that EP312 is titled The Ties That Bind.

XXThe Hollywood Reporter has big, exclusive Vampire Diaries casting news: Torrey DeVitto (of One Tree Hill and Pretty Little Liars) has signed on to the show as a recurring character. We will meet her when the show returns from hiatus on Thursday, January 5th.

DeVitto, who married [Paul] Wesley in April, will play Mary, an intelligent young doctor intrigued by Alaric’s (Matt Davis) powers of recovery on the CW’s vampire drama. She’ll appear in Episodes 310 and 311 with a strong likelihood to continue on afterward.

Thanks to Zap2It‘s Carina MacKenzie, we know episode 310 is titled The New Deal and Ian Somerhalder revealed last week that episode 311 is called Our Town.
