Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, folks, but it looks like Paul Wesley has had to cancel his previously scheduled appearance at Dragon*Con in Atlanta, which happens this weekend. If you’re still heading to the Con, Rob Pralgo (the late Mayor Lockwood) will be in attendance, and it looks like Vampire Diaries will have a few panels throughout the weekend (thanks, @mrsoshimbo). You can download an event program from the official Dragon*Con website.
We know this made a lot of Bloodlines: Insurgence ticket holders on Twitter nervous this morning, but as far as we know and can tell, the Sept. 10-12 con in London is still a go for Paul, Ian Somerhalder, and Michael Trevino. The minute we hear anything different, we will absolutely let you know.

Canada’s Sherwood Park News has an interesting interview with Sara Canning – she talks about being recognized because of Vampire Diaries, the audience, the awards, and what she believes is the most important aspect of Jenna’s character:
“I’m often asked when will Jenna find out that there are vampires where they’re living, or that vampires exist, and I actually don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon,” Canning said. “I think one of the most important aspects of Jenna’s character is that she’s one of the few that are left in Mystic Falls (Virginia) that are actually left completely grounded in reality.”
The supernatural may continue to elude Jenna, but can the woman find a decent guy already? (And yes, there is Alaric, but don’t you think Damon will get jealous? We kid – kinda.) READ THE ENTIRE INTERVIEW AT SHERWOOD PARK NEWS.

Vampire Diaries may not have any Emmy nominations, but that doesn’t mean our own Nina Dobrev can’t swing by and class up the joint. (And, as of 6:20pm Pacific, Nina Dobrev is the #3 Trending Topic on Twitter – insane!) Nina walked the red carpet at the 62nd Emmy Awards in Los Angeles and participated in Jimmy Fallon’s opening song and dance number. First up: pics from the red carpet, courtesy of Nina Dobrev Argentina (click the photos to see bigger versions at NDA and see LOTS more):

UPDATE: Red carpet photos added to our Gallery!

TV.com’s NOW Awards were held last night, July 23rd, in San Diego’s PETCO Park and Vampire Diaries’ own Paul Wesley and Steven R. McQueen were in attendance (as was TVD guest star Kelly Hu!). See a selection of photos below courtesy of Getty Images/Daylife, and see lots more in the Gallery.
By the way – Ian Somerhalder won Best New Bad Guy for his role as Damon Salvatore. Nice one!

When you have so many people on one stage, you know you’re not going to get the most in-depth commentary on any one particular thing, but Kevin Williamson managed to drop a few cool tidbits during TV Guide’s Hot List 2010 panel at Comic Con on Friday. Joining Kev on the panel: Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, and Morris Chestnutt of V, Chi McBride (Human Target), Zach Levi (Chuck), Julie Benz (No Ordinary Family), and Summer Glau, David Lyon, and Keith David of The Cape. And the whole shebang was moderated by Craig Tomashoff of TV Guide (he also moderated the Vampire Diaries PaleyFest panel in March). Footage of the Nina, Paul, and Ian TV Guide Magazine photoshoot played on the big screen (Jen managed to snag a cool shot of Nina!, as well as the final scene of Founder’s Day. And TV Guide Magazine tweeted a cool shot of KW talking.
Some KW soundbites (courtesy of Jen via @tvdnews, unless otherwise stated):
First episode of the new season was wrapped on Thursday; “finger cliffhanger” also wrapped.
Katherine’s finale appearance and the kiss was planned from day one.
“I think Nina does a remarkable job…she’s going to wow everybody this year, playing both roles.” (via @TVGuideMagazine)
The aim of Vampire Diaries is to fall between Twilight and True Blood. (via @MonstersofTV)
They’re “going to blow the lid off mystic falls. The werewolf will show up & the triangle is now a square.” (via @TVGuideEIC)

The Warner Bros. party was also tonight, but we’ll catch up with that in the morning. In the meantime, you can check out an assortment of randomness: Michael talking with press (via @dreadcentral), Nina hanging with a Stormtrooper and with Ed Robertson of Barenaked Ladies, annnnnnnnnd @TVGuideEIC caught up with Ian Somerhalder at the WB party and he had something very interesting to say about what Damon may or may not have known during the final moments of the finale (spoilery!).

Steven R. McQueen sightings were popping up on Twitter yesterday afternoon, but thanks to Karen for confirming he did indeed appear at the Piranha 3D screening and panel in San Diego last night. You may remember that the film’s Friday spot was pulled from the official Comic Con schedule for having footage that was a bit too adult for the general Con audience. Well, Dimension Films scheduled an off-site Piranha 3D event at Regal Horton Plaza, but there was no specific listing of which cast members would definitely be in attendance (plus, it was bumped up a day). Well, McQueen was there and, thanks to Daylife, you can check out a few photos below and see the rest in the Gallery. You can also check out a few snapshots via Karen’s Twitter. Here’s a few Twitter comments we received about meeting Steven:
@kxyfan: Mr. McQueen was so nice. I just wanted a pic of him but he insisted that someone take a pic of us together <3
@Cassandragon: Met SRM last night at Piranha! Got a pic w/ him and he signed my VD poster. Couldn’t have been a nicer guy. SUPER sweet.
