Seriously – is there anything more embarrassing? A HUGE shout-out and thanks to V-D.net reader Nadja Goosen for emailing that caption to us. We can’t stop giggling over it. Tonight on the CW, it’s the Bad Moon Rising again, and Caroline’s earning her newbie vampire merit badge with a slew of one-liners that we still throw into casual conversation. This was, in many ways, an episode of firsts: our first taste of the excruciating werewolf transformation via Mason Lockwood, as well as the first mentions of the Curse of the Sun and the Moon, the moonstone, a werewolves vs. vampires feud, werewolf bites being deadly to vampires, and the name “Petrova.” Tune in tonight at 8/7c and marvel at how much was about to happen between this episode and the season finale.

Before that Bad Moon Rising crests:

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesThanks to Candice Accola Web for the heads up about Candice Accola’s guest spot on IGN’s Channel Surfing podcast! Candice drops in to discuss Vampire Diaries, Caroline, filming in Atlanta, and even talks about Dexter and The Walking Dead. You can download the podcast over at IGN.

Speaking of podcasts, the intrepid Melissa of The Televixen’s Vampire Diaries podcast has been busy playing catch-up on all of the episodes we’ve been recording this season. In case you don’t know by now, myself, Lucia of Heroine TV, Connie of Blast Magazine, Lee of From My Side of the Moon, and The Televixen herself have been podcasting Vampire Diaries since Season 1, and Season 2 is giving us a plethora of entertaining chat fodder. (Warning: The podcast is marked “explicit” for language and themes!) You can download from TheTelevixen.com or subscribe on iTunes! Here’s a list of direct links for all Season 2 podcasts posted so far (with the Rose/Katerina podcast coming this weekend!):

Following on the heels of Zap2It‘s ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Klaus casting: 9 guys we think could bring down Mystic Falls, BuddyTV has posted their 15 casting suggestions: Who Should Play Klaus on ‘The Vampire Diaries’? We don’t know about you guys, but while a few suggestions definitely pique our interest (um, Hal Ozsan? Yes, please – we don’t care who he plays), not a single suggestion has made us sit back and go, “Whoa. YEAH.” Granted, we’re not eager to attach too many expectations on the character’s appearance or presence because who knows what the writers have in mind? It’s wait and see at this point, though the speculation is certainly fun.

The Vampire Diaries TV Series

“Isn’t killing cute, defenseless animals the first step in becoming a serial killer?” Sorry, guys, we weren’t going to pass up the chance at a perfect Dexter reference. First, the bad-ish news – tonight’s episode of The Vampire Diaries is a repeat; specifically, it’s an encore of Bad Moon Rising. But that’s not all bad, right? Now the good news – only two weeks left ’til The Sacrifice (the next new episode) on December 2nd. In the meantime, we’re cooking up some cool stuff for the show’s return and Vampire Diaries Marathon week! Exciting.

All things Bad Moon Rising:

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesIt’s marathon time again! Just like last year, the CW is clearing its primetime slate in December to make room for a Vampire Diaries Season 2 Marathon. From the press release:

Airing two episodes each night from Monday, Dec. 13 through Friday, Dec. 17 (8:00-10:00p.m. ET/PT), The CW will rebroadcast the first 10 episodes of the second season of its addictive hit The Vampire Diaries across its entire primetime schedule that week, beginning with this season’s explosive premiere. The Vampire Diaries is The CW’s most-watched and highest-rated series among adults 18-34 this season.

So that puts the schedule like so:
Monday, Dec. 13th: The Return & Brave New World
Tuesday, Dec. 14th: Bad Moon Rising & Memory Lane
Wednesday, Dec. 15th: Kill Or Be Killed & Plan B
Thursday, Dec. 16th: Masquerade & Rose
Friday, Dec. 17th: Katerina & The Sacrifice*

Tonight’s episode is filled with road trips, romance, heartbreak, and teenagers roaming around spooky woods at night (they never learn, do they?). Things are going to get very… hairy.

Less hairy is our UK giveaway tonight. ITV2 haven’t quite run out of flasks and DVDs yet, so we have two more sets to give away. Same deal as the past two weeks – we’ll be awarding one prize pack to the person with the tweet about the episode we like the most (remember your #tvduk hashtag!) and another prize pack after Bad Moon Rising airs to the winner of a trivia question based on the episode. You must be 15 or over, and be a resident of the United Kingdom. You can follow us on Twitter on @tvdnews, and be sure to give @itv2 a follow while you’re at it.

Tune in to ITV2 at 9pm tonight to catch Bad Moon Rising, or catch it again at 10pm on ITV2+1. Still need to catch up on last week’s episode? You can watch it on ITV Player, or download it in HQ from iTunes UK. Also, if you haven’t entered the ITV2 contest to win tickets to an advance screening of the season finale, what are you waiting for?

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesBefore taking that stroll down this week’s Memory Lane, why not relive that Bad Moon Rising? Here’s a selection of recaps worth checking out before grabbing your parasol. This is by no means a comprehensive list and we’re going to try and spread the love as much as possible. Please give all of these sites a visit by clicking their author/site headers. (On another note: A lot of this week’s recaps seemed to be simple play-by-plays rather than commentary-driven. It was kinda weird, thus why the list isn’t so long this week. This round-up has proved pretty popular – which was a bit of a surprise – and that means a lot of people want to be listed here. It’s not possible to list everyone, which is why I’m trying to pull the best quotes from the most insightful recaps that week. If you’re not here, it doesn’t mean you won’t be listed in a future installment! I’m sorry I can’t list everyone, every week.)

Think there are some clever recaps we should check out? Hit us up in the comments.

Featured in this installment: Recaps from Thomas Galvin, L.A. Times, The TV Watchtower, Give Me My Remote, Entertainment Weekly, Zap2It, Heroine TV, Television Without Pity, Off-Color TV, Hit Fix, Clique Clack, and our own Crissy Calhoun.

Any chance we’ll get to see a full moon episode once a month? I’m guessing there are a lot of fans who would be down with a repeat of the Mason Lockwood wolf action in Bad Moon Rising. Far from turning into The Werewolf Diaries, this episode managed to balance the introduction of a whole new rich mythology while keeping the things we love most about The Vampire Diaries front and center: the relationship between Elena and the Salvatore brothers, the tension between the human and supernatural elements in Mystic Falls, and the unexpected — be it a crossbow, a passionate kiss, or a devastating heartbreak. Add in the beautifully filmed scenes in the forest, great song choices, and the return of Alaric (albeit with puzzlingly long hair), and Bad Moon Rising maintains the high bar season 2 has already set for itself with its first two episodes.
