We got Joseph Morgan‘s take on the Klaus/Tyler situation in our last post, so it’s time to hear from Michael Trevino. On this week’s TV Guide Vampire Diaries Bite, he talks about why the time is right for Tyler to put his plan in motion in tonight’s mid-season finale, O Come, All Ye Faithful (EP409). There are a few more quotes from Joseph Morgan in the article as well, so make sure you click over!

XXRemember when Elena’s biggest problem was plain old water? Lots of changes since then but Elena’s drowning scene was a big challenge for the actors and crew. Entertainment Weekly has a great piece on the mechanics of filming that scene, as told by Supervising Producer Chris Grismer.

I started the actors training for the scene about two months before we shot. They had to train every weekend with dive instructors. Nina Dobrev was already PADI-certified, but those who weren’t had to become. They also had to learn how to act underwater for a long period of time without air: They had to learn how to do a scene and then get air between takes from a safety diver, who was never more than five or six feet away, instead of coming back up to the surface, which I think was pretty terrifying for them.

Friday Night Bites is a weekly round-up for various tidbits of show and cast/crew news not quite big enough to warrant a blog post, not strictly Vampire Diaries-related, or that somehow just fell through the cracks. Please insert theme song by Explosions in the Sky here and enjoy.

XXHappy Monday, TVD fans! We hope you’re all awake today because we’ve got something for you that’s simply fascinating. This piece from Creative Cow Magazine is written by Nancy Forner, one of the editors on The Vampire Diaries. Nancy gives us a look at what’s involved in cutting together a TVD episode and what sets it apart from a procedural drama like Law & Order: SVU, discusses the pacing and the process of choosing the music.

In addition to the editing being very fast-paced, we use a lot of different angles in The Vampire Diaries. In a classic TV show, one scene might have three, four or maximum five different angles. In every scene of TVD, there are 10 to 20 different angles in every single scene. Let’s say one person is talking. I might go from a side angle to a high angle to an extreme close-up, all within the same sentence, as opposed to just staying on one character, in one angle saying his line for the whole sentence. In one sentence, I can have 3 different cuts and 3 different angles.

If you’re at all interested in the technical side of television, this has a lot of information and it’s a great look at some of the work that goes into creating our favorite show. The magazine is specifically for media professionals, so be prepared to Google Bing a technical term here and there.

XXAfterElton.com did a set visit recently, and spoke with Ian Somerhalder, Zach Roerig and Joseph Morgan about all things TVD.

In this article, the actors talk about their respective characters, shooting on location and the effects of their hectic schedules. Joseph Morgan touches on an issue of interest to many: whether or not Klaus is softening up.

“I think we are transitioning to making him a little more sympathetic,” Morgan observed. “We’re starting to learn the motives behind why he does what he does. But I think just like in life everything isn’t always polarized. He’s not good or bad. He’s layered. So, the more we learn about him the more maybe we’ll empathize or sympathize with him, but he’s always going to have done the things he’s done…I personally hope that he doesn’t just suddenly miraculously become good. I feel like there should be a chance of redemption for everyone, but he’s still going to carry that stuff with him.”

Yesterday, members of the media were invited to a special screening of tonight’s new (and highly anticipated) episode of The Vampire Diaries: Dangerous Liaisons (EP314), and they’re hinting we can expect healthy doses of angst alongside those sharp tuxes and glittering ballgowns. Is anyone surprised? First up, members of the TVD cast – Zach Roerig, Candice Accola, Kat Graham, Nina Dobrev – tease what’s coming tonight and in future episodes in another E!Online set visit video.

As for the finished product, E!Online has this to tease (SPOILERS):

Elena shares some very intense moments with both Salvatore brothers, including a scene where one of the brothers drops three very important words. Fans of both couples should prepare for some major angst, including Elena hurting Damon and possibly causing the return of the old Damon. We won’t lie, we kind of missed him!

On a related note, Zap2It also teases the triangle and five other things about tonight’s episode (SPOILERS):

Elena is caught in a virtual tug-of-war throughout the episode (at one point, they literally each have her by the arm). The question, as always, is whether Stefan can find it in himself to care about Elena — and whether or not she still wants him to care about her at this point. That will pretty much be answered by the end of the hour. Per usual, Paul Wesley’s performance will give you goose bumps.

Julie Plec was on hand for a Q&A during the episode screening yesterday, and The Insider has this amusing tidbit to share:

When I asked her about the likelihood of non-Mystic Falls law enforcement agents ever coming to town (ya know, like if this mysterious stabber continues his/her reign of terror for much longer), Julie said, “Truth be told we’ve had the “FBI Agents Come to Town” pitch on the board since episode three of season one. As this thought that somebody, at some point, is going to have to come to this town and be like, ‘What the hell is going on here?!? Sheriff you’re fired!’”

And if you need even more photos from Dangerous Liaisons, Hollywood Life has a handful of exclusive behind-the-scenes photos from filming.

Tierney Bricker of E!Online recently spent some time in Atlanta and talked to Nina Dobrev, Zach Roerig, and Ian Somerhalder about Elena’s romantic future. Do they think Elena will choose Stefan, Damon, or someone else entirely? Ian’s take: “I think she is probably done with the Salvatore boys for a while.” And watch this video to see what Nina and Zach think:
