TV Guide has a chat with Ian Somerhalder about what’s on everyone’s mind: the issue of Damon, Elena, and Katherine, and what happens when/if Katherine comes back into the picture.
Damon isn’t always upbeat, though. Somerhalder teased an upcoming episode of the CW series (Thursdays at 8/7c) in which he’s anguished. “I had to shoot a scene where Damon was not happy at all. … and my whole day was shot because I was miserable. Normally I walk around set laughing and joking, pulling pranks on people and just screwing with everyone. [Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan] is always so intense, because he’s got so much going on in his mind. I thought, whoa, that’s heavy.”

MTV’s Hollywood Crush talks to Steven R. McQueen about his careers thus far, road tripping with his fellow cast-mates, and his first true taste of the Vampire Diaries hype:
Since Atlanta is pretty far removed from Hollywood, Steven said that the cast felt a completely different taste of their newfound fame when they went back to L.A. for the winter holidays. “In Atlanta we don’t really feel the hype, but going back to LA, I’ll tell you it was crazy. We’d just be in random places and people would just start running up and crying. It was very surreal. It’s a little intimidating, but it was cool.”

Parade chats with Sara Canning about what’s next for Jenna, the supernatural, and how The Vampire Diaries has carved its own niche in the vampire genre:
“When I did the pilot, I knew, of course, that there was a huge vampire fascination right now, but I guess we weren’t really sure how the show would be received. But it’s developed so well with its own fans. I think a lot of people thought, ‘Okay, this is just going to be another Twilight.’ But Vampire Diaries has a very specific group of fans who are not only interested in the vampire thing, but also the characters on the show and the storylines.”

Guest star Sean Faris makes his debut on tonight’s episode, Unpleasantville, and Betty Confidential isn’t able to get much out of him other than some insight into who he’ll be playing, but he also talks his recent Men’s Health cover, his cooking, and his idea of the perfect date:
Tell us about your character Ben on The Vampire Diaries.
Ben is a former star football player at the town’s high school and he didn’t really do much with his life, so while his other friends moved on he got stuck in Mystic Falls. He discovers the beautiful Bonnie (Katerina Graham) and they start to hang out for a little bit. I can’t really tell you anything beyond that or I’d get in trouble.

Vampire Diaries TV recapper Carina MacKenzie’s interview with Nina Dobrev is up at the LA Times. They cover a lot of ground, from auditioning, living in Atlanta, and leaving Degrassi, to her inspiration behind Katherine, Elena’s discovery about her resemblance to Katherine in The Turning Point, and what fans can expect in upcoming episodes. (She also divulges her favorite episode so far.)
You’ve got a rare opportunity as an actress to be able to play two characters in one show and explore the different ways that Elena and Katherine interact with the brothers. Is there anything that Elena and Katherine have in common?
At this point, I don’t think so. At one point, Stefan describes Katherine and then he talks to someone else about Elena, and he points out their differences. Katherine was very conniving, she was narcissistic, she acted out of her own benefit and for her own selfish needs. She used these two boys as her toys. They were toys for her, and she had a lot of fun with them. I’m so lucky — I just love this show.
Digital Spy’s Tube Talk has posted their own interview with Nina, where she gives her thoughts on Elena’s future, her relationship with Stefan, and pulling double duty in playing both Elena and Katherine. Check out the piece and watch the interview below:
