Man, there must be some really hungry vampires out there right now. @RedCrossBloodGA have reported that they’ve managed to collect over 1330 pints of blood so far in Georgia with the Vampire Diaries blood drives, and there are still 20 more drives scheduled to take place. They also achieved what they’re calling a record for them at the Georgia Tech blood drive, with 500 pints of blood donated. How cool is that?
With less than 24 hours to go until the series premieres (and where on earth has the past six months vanished to?!), there are lots of reviews and such pinging around the internet. A lot of them say the same things, and we’ll be here all night if we try and list every single one, so we’re just going to post a selection of them here for you to get stuck into.
Television Without Pity have up a fun (if a little inaccurate) article comparing various bits of the Vampire Diaries, True Blood and Twilight (fair warning, the article contains book spoilers). They’ve also added a Vampire Diaries section to their forums, so head on over for some TWoP-style discussion.
The New York Times have up a positive and amusing review that suggests (among other things) that Paul Wesley resembles Matt Dillon (points given for not comparing Paul to the usual suspects, points immediately retracted for making us feel so old), and that Damon seems like the kind of guy to steal mittens from eight-year-olds. Quite why he’d want to and what he’d do with the mittens, we don’t know, but the scenario that conjures up is hilarious.
There are more, which we’ll link to quickly. Variety have gone the punny route with their review (though they reckon the series is worth a look), while Starpulse‘s review looks more into the TV series compared with the books. The Los Angeles Times seem to be digging the whole gothic romance angle of the series, and Zap2it really seem to like Candice Accola’s portrayal of Caroline Forbes.
Hopefully tomorrow is going to provide us with some interesting and entertaining news in the run-up to the premiere, and we’ll be setting up the blog and forums ready for you guys to tell us all what you think of the Vampire Diaries pilot once you’ve seen it.
As of right now, there are 19 hours, 46 mins and 37 seconds left to wait. ;)

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram has an interview with Paul – he talks about the difficulty in casting Stefan, the particular rules of Vampire Diaries’ vampires, and those night shoots.
As for the matter of vampires in daylight, “It makes life so much easier for us as actors, because it’s not all night shoots all the time,” Wesley says. “I know that L.J. Smith, the author of the books, didn’t think of that for my benefit, but I’m still grateful.”
In others news: Do you have your tickets for PaleyFest’s CW Fall Premiere Party on Monday, September 14th? Vampire Diaries executive producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson are now officially confirmed to appear AND it has just been announced that “Night of the Comet” (aka the second episode of Vampire Diaries) will also screen at the Los Angeles shindig. The party/panel is open to the public and tickets are free, though you do need to reserve them in advance. We look forward to hearing your reports!
And for those of you in the Tampa Bay area, Vampire Diaries and Florida Blood Services have teamed up: Anyone donating blood through Thursday can get a voucher for two free tickets to a Vampire Diaries premiere screening at the Ritz Theater in Ybor City, sponsored by FBS and CW44. Check out the Tampa Tribune for more info. Those of us outside of the USA will chunter quietly with envy at all the good stuff you guys get in exchange for a few pints of blood. ;)

The extended Vampire Diaries trailer is now available for free download on iTunes as a ‘sneak peak’. We’ve seen it before, but it’s kind of nice to have the shiny downloaded onto your desktop for repeat viewings until the series premieres. Small note: you will need iTunes installed in order to access it.
In international air date news, fans in Brazil will be pleased to know that it seems you guys have an air date set for November, 2009 on the Warner Channel. And on the subject of air dates, we’ve added a list of known air dates to the main TV series page. If you know of any dates we’re missing, please let us know!
Those of you heading off to Dragon*Con might be interested to know that if you donate blood, you may well receive a Vampire Diaries gift in return. The first 500 people to donate will be getting a special Vampire Diaries bleeding mug. You can find more details about the blood drive and the times and locations on Dragon*Con’s blood drive page.
Finally, Innsmouth Free Press (a website dedicated to the Lovecraft mythos) will be reviewing the Vampire Diaries TV series on a weekly basis. To get readers geared up for this they’re having a Vampire Diaries week from the 11th to the 18th September (there’s a Supernatural week from the 3rd to the 10th for those interested). They’ll be posting all kinds of reviews and interviews (including one with myself and Vee!), so be sure to check it out.
