Brandon QuinnBrandon Quinn will be guest starring in the next new episode of the Vampire Diaries, “Bloodlines”, playing a character called Lee. We don’t know much about the character, but you can head on over to the spoiler zone to contribute your theories. Many of you will probably remember Brandon best from the TV series Big Wolf on Campus, where he played the hero of the show, werewolf Tommy Dawkins.

Ian Somerhalder has made TV Guide’s list of best performances of 2009. A well-deserved mention, given that Damon has stolen the hearts of a lot of people – be it due to his good looks, his snarkish wit, or the fact that he’s putting the savage bite back into vampires.

Spanish fans can celebrate with the news that the Vampire Diaries starts airing in Spain on TNT on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 10:15pm.

Vampire Diaries Fan has some promotional images of Paul Wesley and Zach Roerig up in their gallery. Update: We now have unmarked versions in our own gallery.

We also have some related pictures of Michael Trevino and Sara Canning in our own gallery which we’d completely forgotten about. Oops. Better late than never, eh?

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesThe NY Post throws down the gauntlet and ticks off five reasons why Vampire Diaries is better than Twilight, citing legacy, violence, sex, a strong, independent female lead, and how Vampire Diaries is the under-dog:

“The vampires, while pretty, are still sort of vicious,” explained Lindsay Soll, editor of MTV’s Hollywood Crush blog. “When they’re hungry and about to feed, their fangs come out — they don’t even have fangs in ‘Twilight’ — and their veins stick out. They’re not afraid to make pretty people ugly.”

They’re also not afraid to make pretty people die.

Speaking of the NY Post, PopWrap name-checks Vampire Diaries as one of the 10 Best Shows of 2009:

9. “The Vampire Diaries”
Scoff if you must, but “Vampire Diaries” haters are synonymous with the uninitiated. To know this show is to love it, and to write it off as a “Twilight” knock-off is a huge mistake. If Edward or Bella ever said anything as astute or acerbic as Stefan or Elena, I would die of shock. And with Damon, Ian Somerhalder has breathed dead life [into] one of the most devious, diabolical and delicious villains in decades. Scenes (and costumes) like this one don’t hurt either.

In case you missed our tweet yesterday: The song used in the “Chapter” promo is “Losing You” by Otto’s Daughter.

We’d also like to reiterate that the Bloodlines episode synopsis currently up on IMDb is completely fake – just in case “Mistic” Falls didn’t tip you off.

And finally, a good bit of news for TVD fans in the Netherlands: Vampire Diaries makes its official debut on January 31st at 9:30pm, NET 5.

Damon Salvatore and Elena GilbertJulie Plec has been spilling some beans to TV Guide Magazine about the second half of the season of the Vampire Diaries (which seems oh-so-far away right now!):

What’s happening when Diaries opens its pages again in January?
Our first episode back is a very Damon and Elena-centric story. The two of them go off on a little adventure and bond in a way she didn’t think they were capable of. Having left her necklace behind with the vervaine, the question is: is Damon taking Elena along of her own free will or is he controlling her to enjoy the experience. Also, Gina Torres (Firefly, 24) guest stars as a witch that Damon goes to visit.

Read the entire interview, and thanks to @CW_VampDiaries for the link.

The overnight ratings are in for “The Turning Point”, with a grand total of 3.7 million viewers. While the figures may be down, they’re still really good. Don’t forget the show was up against the New Moon première, and so lower ratings aren’t unexpected for the Vampire Diaries given the target audience is the same. We’ll see what happens when the DVR figured come in.

Finally, those of you in the USA can now download “The Turning Point” from Amazon for $1.99 or in HD for $2.99.
