Those of you who have read Shadow Souls will know all about Bonnie’s opal ring. L.J. Smith has had such a ring made, and is going to be giving it away to one lucky Vampire Diaries fan.
Now you can win this version of Bonnie’s opal ring (see above). It’s made of 14 karat gold and 14 karat white gold, with one central opal and diamonds sprinkled around it. This is a gorgeous ring that sells for over $700—so pretty that I got one for myself! And if you didn’t win an autographed Shadow Souls book during the last contest–well, here’s your chance, because I’m offering ten (10) this time around as second prizes.
To find out more about the ring and how to enter the contest, head on over to L.J. Smith’s blog.
The lovely Lorraine over at the LJS Covers Resource has kindly passed on some more German book covers, a variation on the TV series-themed omnibus editions previously published.

Thanks to Iony and Vampire’s Crib for the heads up. Romanian fans can now pre-order the fourth volume in the Vampire Diaries series, “Dark Reunion” (“Reuniunea”), from Leda books. The book is due out towards the end of May, and you get a 25% discount if you pre-order now. We’re seriously feeling the Bonnie love with some of these covers of late. Awesome. Paul Wesley talks to MTV about the inherent differences between Stefan and Damon, reveals that he originally auditioned to play Damon, and likens Stefan’s ongoing desire for human blood with that of a drug addict:
“Stefan is fully aware of hurting others and harm, and so for him he’s, like, always unhappy,” he said. “It’s almost like someone who’s dependent on some sort of drug and then being in rehab, and you’re never the same.”
Read (and listen) to the interview at MTV.com.
And Hollywood Crush caught up with Katerina Graham, who is refreshingly candid about her portrayal of Bonnie Bennett:
Of course, Kat knew that bringing Bonnie to life would be difficult, especially because of the physical differences between her and the character in the “Vampire Diaries” books, which she reads between takes on-set. “I can see why [the books] have had such a long-term fan base, which I think I’ve slowly won over. At first they were like ‘Well, you’re supposed to be a redheaded white girl,’ so I knew I’d have to really prove Bonnie to them. They’re going to have to really see Bonnie in me because the physical characteristics are so far from where the books were.”

Our friends over at Vampire Diaries BG have been awesome enough to share all four of the brand new Bulgarian covers for the Vampire Diaries with us. Many thanks, guys! The Awakening (Пробуждането) is set for publication on the 16th September (having been moved up from October), though there are no dates set yet for the rest of the series. We’ll let you all know as soon as we know the dates ourselves.
These covers use the same half-face theme as many of the recent publications around the world are using at the moment, but we have to point out an interesting and applause-worthy twist: they have Bonnie on the cover of Dark Reunion. Now, how cool is that? Ibis publishers, we salute you!

Sabrina Rojas-Weiss has a new installment of her Book Report: The Vampire Diaries up on MTV’s Hollywood Crush blog. While I think Red will take great exception to what she has to say about Matt (that flag flies high around these parts!), she does list off five reasons why the series will appeal to “Twilighters and Twi-Haters.” She touches on why Elena Gilbert kicks ass and why her friends are awesome, the appeal of Stefan and Damon, and why Fell’s Church is a very interesting place to live.
We also appreciate that she’s unafraid to touch on the series’ faults, too. Read the entire post over on the Hollywood Crush blog.

L.J. Smith has written two short Vampire Diaries stories that are now available on the stories page of her website. The first is “Matt & Elena: First Date” (set around a year before The Awakening), and the second is “Bonnie & Damon: After Hours” (set during the first trilogy).
Update: The short stories have been removed from L.J. Smith’s website due to an interest from the publishers in producing an anthology of short Vampire Diaries stories.
