Big thanks to Renan and Diarios do Vampiro for letting us know that Brazil’s Dark Reunion cover has been revealed! Galera Record will release the fourth volume in the original Vampire Diaries series in June 2010. Given the blonde on the cover of The Fury… Is this supposed to be Meredith?

Romanian fans don’t have long to wait for the next book in the Vampire Diaries series to be released. Book two, The Struggle, will be released on March 1st with the title Jurnalele Vampirilor: Lupta, and Damon on the cover (click on the thumbnail to the left for a larger version).
The Struggle is available for pre-order from the publishers, LEDA, and The Awakening is already available to buy. We’ll let you know when we have news about the rest of the series. Many thanks to VDRomania for the info.
In TV series news we have a couple of videos for you. The first is of Paul Wesley talking to People about what he likes to do to get away from it all. Sorry, no embed, but you can view it over on the People website. The second video is all about Katerina Graham. She talks to Teen.com about fashion and style, from Bonnie’s look to her own, and her most memorable wardrobe malfunction. Thanks @CW_VampDiaries for the link!

As a part of the Harper Collins 28 Days of Winter Escapes, My Friend Amy has an interview with author of the Vampire Diaries, L.J. Smith in which she talks about the books, Valentine’s, and which of the Salvatore brothers she’d like to date.
Stefan and Damon are always in competition for Elena’s love, among other things . . . is it possible that the brothers will ever get over their rivalry?
Well, that happens to be the very focus of the new trilogy. In Shadow Souls and Midnight the brothers are forced to work together—or at least on the same side. But while Stefan would probably try anything for Elena, Damon is more like a half-tamed panther relentlessly stalking her every move. The question each day is: Will the good, helpful Damon come out or will the wicked, wild Damon emerge? So it really depends on Damon—who’s not very dependable.
Related to this, if you want a chance at winning a copy of The Return: Shadow Souls, head over to the 28 Days of Winter Escapes website to vote in the poll and enter the sweepstakes.
The first five Vampire Diaries books were released over in Poland back in January in omnibus editions, and you can check out the covers for them below (courtesy of the L.J. Smith Cover Resource). The Polish publishers are going a different route to everyone else, and instead of the original series being split into two volumes, they’ve gone with the first volume containing The Awakening, The Struggle and The Fury, and the second volume containing Dark Reunion and the first half of The Return: Nightfall. Given the content and endings of the various books, that is actually a logical way to split them. Maybe we’ll start seeing some more omnibus editions being split this way in the future?

Finally! A new Vampire Diaries: The Return: Shadow Souls cover! For the longest time we’ve only had the cover for the USA to keep us going… and now we have one for the UK. Thematically on-topic, and a vast improvement on the apple (of which we shall not speak, beyond a brief mention that it bears an uncanny resemblance to a Twilight parody book… oh, the shame). Good job on this one, Hodder! Amazon are listing it as a paperback due for release on 6th May, 2010.
In other UK publication news, the TV series tie-in covers were also released last week. These are omnibus editions (check out the covers for volume one and volume two), and are available for order on Amazon (order volume one and volume two), or should be stocked in your local book shop.

WPIX chatted with Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley during the recent Hot Topic cast stop in New Jersey. They talk about the weather, the show and fan response, people asking Ian to bite them, Nina’s thoughts on playing Katherine and Elena, wearing corsets, being evil and Valentines plans. Thanks to @MegPlatt86 for the video link!
The Vampire Diaries started airing this evening in the UK on ITV2 (sponsored by Mentos mints; understandable, as we hear the undead tend to have bad breath). If you missed it, you can catch the repeats on Friday at 8pm (this applies to future episodes, too), or you can watch them on ITV Player: Pilot and Night of the Comet. Also, don’t forget that you can purchase all of the episodes aired so far in the USA in the UK iTunes store.
Vampire Diaries Romania have let us know that “The Awakening” is to be published soon in Romania. We don’t have a date yet, but the publishers, LEDA, are taking pre-orders. You can see the cover on the right (click on it to see the larger version), and we’ll let you know when we have an actual release date.
In more international book news, we’ve had word from Iva that all of the original book series has now published in Bulgaria. “The Fury” was published back in December, and “Dark Reunion” was published earlier this month. You can read our blog post from last year if you want a reminder of the covers, and you can find out more information on each of the books over on the publisher’s website.
Finally, for a bit of fun (and in honour of the UK premiere), a video of Nina talking to My Bliss in the UK with a British accent:

Heat Magazine are really getting into the excitement of the Vampire Diaries and have up a little article selling the TV series to UK audiences, calling it “sexier than Twilight and less icky than True Blood, this is one vampy series you simply MUST watch”. They also have an exclusive video interview with Ian Somerhalder talking about the series, which you can view here. Sadly, there are no embed options, but we’ll be sure to add it if it crops up on YouTube. Thank you to Amy for sending us the links.
Update: Thanks to @TwilighterVN for the YouTube video link.
Kristin over at E! Online has a nice Stefan and Damon teaser for “Children of the Damned”. Highlight/mouseover to see the spoiler:
This week’s The Vampire Diaries reveals one of the biggest secrets of all: What actually happened to make Damon and Stefan hate each other? “We get to see the incident that drove them apart for the first time,” says show runner Julie Plec. Ooh, “the incident”? sounds a little Lostish! Also, we’ll see Dexter’s James Remar for the first time as Papa Salvatore. Let’s just hope he lives by a very different code than Harry Morgan!
And a little more specific:
The incident that tore Damon and Stefan apart involves their mutual love of a certain Elena look-alike vampire. Turns out, Stefan might inadvertently be the reason Katherine was locked up in the tomb, hence Damon’s desire to free her, and his unexplained hatred of his little bro.
Many thanks to Tiaria for letting us know about book publications in Russia again. As far as we can tell (with the dubious help of Google Translate), “The Fury” is out now, and Russian fans can order it over on ozon.ru. For everyone else, we have the cover to the right (click it for the larger version in our gallery). Oh, Russia, we love your wacky and unrelated covers. So much. :D
Marijó has emailed to let us know that the Warner Channel in Argentina will be running a Vampire Diaries marathon on Saturday, February 6 and Saturday, February 13 from 4pm. Update: Looks like it’s all over Latin America – thanks, Angie.
The Televixen’s Vampire Diaries podcast (featuring Melissa (The Televixen), Connie from Blast Magazine, Lucia from HeroineTV, and our very own Vee) is up: Let’s Kill All the Awesome Chicks. If you missed the first podcast, you can head over and listen to Operation Suspenders.
Finally, the TwiCon Celebrity Craft Basket we mentioned a few weeks back is open for sign-ups. If you want to contribute to a gift basket for various cast members from the Vampire Diaries, True Blood and Twilight, then mosey on over to Twilight Crafts to find out more and sign up.

With the Vampire Diaries set to premiere in the UK next week (Tuesday, February 2, 9pm, double dose of the pilot and “Night of the Comet”), it’s no surprise that TV guides in the UK are starting to print articles about the show. We’ve got a selection of scans for you from TV & Satellite Week, Total TV Guide, TV Quick and TV Choice (check out their extra Ian Somerhalder questions online).

Those of you who use DigiGuide will also note that the listings for the show should now have appeared. I admit it – I WooHooed when I saw them. :D
The official Spanish Vampire Diaries website has posted to say that the fifth Vampire Diaries book, “Nightfall”, is to be published in Spain on February 9, 2010. Interestingly, it won’t be titled “Nightfall”, and will carry the title “Damon” instead. We’ve got to wonder if the remaining two books in the trilogy will be named “Stefan” and “Elena”, and if that will fit thematically as the entire trilogy is reported to be about Damon. Thanks to Vampire Diaries Latinoamérica for the heads up!
