Book news! Feels like ages since we last posted any about the book series, and to make up for that we have a whole load of new book covers from various countries for you to peruse.

First up, the cover for Nightfall in Brazil has been revealed, and the publishers, Galera Record, will also be releasing a rather nifty Vampire Diaries boxset containing books 1 – 4. There isn’t a release date for either product yet, but we’ll let you know when we hear something. Update: Nightfall is due in October, and the boxset in November. Thanks, Isabella!

Big thanks to Renan and Diarios do Vampiro for letting us know that Brazil’s Dark Reunion cover has been revealed! Galera Record will release the fourth volume in the original Vampire Diaries series in June 2010. Given the blonde on the cover of The Fury… Is this supposed to be Meredith?

Vampire Diaries: The Fury, Brazil, 2010Good news, Brazilian fans. DiarosDoVampiros.com have reported that Galera Record have a release date and a cover for book three of the Vampire Diaries, “The Fury” (or “A Fúria”, as it will be titled in Brazil). You’ll be able to buy it from March 1, 2010. Click on the image to the right to get a closer look at the cover in our gallery, and also take a peek at the Brazilian covers for “The Awakening” and “The Struggle” while you’re there. Nice to see Elena depicted with her book blonde hair and blue eyes, especially after the rash of mysterious dark-haired ladies on a lot of recent international Vampire Diaries covers. Many thanks to Renan for letting us know about this.

Remember that People.com poll we mentioned a while back? The one that ruffled so many feathers with its “Second-Hottest Vampire” designation (assuming RPattz was number one)? Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley were included and, well, the results are in – as voted by People.com readers (click the screenshot to go to People.com):

Awards Show Network has followed up their interviews with Candice Accola and Katerina Graham with a brief Nina Dobrev chat:

Speaking of the Vampire Diaries ladies – the new issue of InStyle magazine features a two-page spread with Nina, Candice, Katerina, and Kayla Ewell. And the Jan/Feb issue of Men’s Health has future recurring guest star Sean Faris on its cover. (Thanks to @sabinetbfl and @Joselito4390 for the heads up.) And don’t forget to watch for Paul, Nina, and Ian on the February 2010 NYLON cover.

Brazil seems to be really getting into the spirit of things with the Vampire Diaries! Thanks to Diarios do Vampiro giving us the heads up, we now know what the cover of The Struggle is going to look like. It’s currently due to be published in November at some point. Meanwhile, the publication date for The Awakening in Brazil is just around the corner on the 28th August.

Galera Record (the publishers in Brazil) have a few things up their sleeves to promote the series. As well as an official website with wallpaper downloads and the diaries of Stefan and Damon (Google translate is useful for those of us who don’t speak Portuguese), they’re going to be holding a masquerade ball to celebrate the launch of the books. We hope those of you lucky enough to go have a whole lot of fun, and be sure to tell us all about it!

John DahlMarcos Siega and Kevin Williamson both tweeted this morning to say that episode 102 of the Vampire Diaries will be directed by John Dahl, whose work includes episodes of True Blood, Dexter and Battlestar Galactica. The producers and cast have been saying all along that the TV version of the Vampire Diaries will be much more than the romance between Stefan and Elena, and will be darker than viewers might expect. So far the choice in Marcos Siega (also known for directing episodes of True Blood and Dexter) and John Dahl as directors certainly seems to back that up.

In other TV series news, Brazilian fans will be delighted to learn that they’ll be seeing the Vampire Diaries in Brazil. VampireDiariesBr.com has let us know that the Warner Channel will be showing the series, though no actual air date has been given yet. We’ll keep you posted.

Brazilian cover for The AwakeningWe’ve had word from Vampire Diaries Br that the publication date for The Awakening (O Despertar) in Brazil is August 28th, 2009 and, as you can see, the cover has also been revealed. They’re going with what seems to be becoming a trend for the Vampire Diaries right now with the partial face shot and bloody lip that was first started with the 2007 reprints in the USA. What’s also interesting about this cover is that the tagline specifically mentions the TV series and the logo uses the font that we saw as a possible title card back in May. It’s certainly making us curious about the August reprints of The Awakening and The Struggle in the USA and UK and how – if at all – they might tie in with the TV series.
