The casting call/sides for a pivotal role popped up this morning – and to say we’re excited is quite the understatement. Time lines change, but it looks like we can expect a certain Big Bad to appear sooner rather than later, possibly even by
episode 216
. Highlight the casting call for spoilers:
Klaus is late-20’s to mid-30’s. He’s handsome, charming, intelligent, with a sharp wit. He’s the only person who can out-Damon Damon. That’s because he’s got a thousand years on him. Klaus is one of the Originals. Possibly the oldest. But you’d never know it because he keeps up with the times.
But rather than just play the dreamcasting game (which is a blast, don’t get us wrong), we’re more interested in speculating what this character’s arrival is going to do to Team Badass. Mark our words – things are going to get ugly in Mystic Falls.
Last night’s encore of “Family Ties” drew in a respectable 1 million viewers, and the DVR ratings are also in for “History Repeating”, giving the episode an extra juicy 1.6 million viewers. Courtesy of the Futon Critic:
Freshman smash THE VAMPIRE DIARIES only gets bigger once all DVR playback is included, gaining 57% in women 18-34 (3.82rtg v. 2.43rtg), 51% in adults 18-34 (2.68rtg v. 1.77rtg) and 57% in women 18-49 (3.09tg v. 1.97rtg).
There’s a casting call out for a new recurring character by the name of ‘Lucy’. We know a lot of you don’t like to be spoiled too much about upcoming characters, so if you want to know more, highlight the text below (you can also head over to the Spoiler Zone on the forums, where people will post more information when they find it).
[LUCY BENNETT] Early 20’s.. HOT African-American, Bonnie’s cousin from out of town. A Virginia Tech college student that is wicked smart and is happy to let you know it. At first, she comes across as crass and in-your-face but look deeper and you’ll see a wounded soul who’s never really belonged. She is very guarded and mysterious and is not above using her looks to her advantage. Men beware. GUEST STAR, RECURRING
When Matt finds out Vicki’s [fate], is he going to go after Damon and Stefan?
Matt’s definitely going to seek redemption. I’m not sure he’s going to know what direction to go in, but he won’t stop till he figures it out. It may not mean staking a vampire in the heart, but he’ll do something. I’m just waiting to see what’s in store for the rest of the series. It started out focusing on Elena, Damon and Stefan, but Bonnie and her witchy ways are going to become a bigger part of the show; the town’s people who are trying to secretly hunt for vampires will be out in force; there are new characters popping up, so there’s a lot more to come. I’m just as excited as the viewers to see it unfold.
There’s also an interview with Katerina Graham from I Heart Heels. It’s all about style, baby.
IHH: Is Bonnie’s style ever anything you would wear on your own?
KG: We’re different to the extreme. Bonnie goes for the loafer, while I opt for the platform stiletto. But, I love Bonnie’s clothes and will even see something and pick it up in a store if I feel it reflects her. As an actor, it’s important to lose your ego and fall into the character, even if she’s different than you are style-wise.
SpoilerTV has posted a casting call for two characters in what we’re guessing is episode eight (it’s not clear if SpoilerTV are using production codes or episode numbers). Click the link to check them out.
And finally, Ben Ayres (Mr. Tanner) sat in on the Wine Ladies videocast at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he is promoting his film A Gun to the Head, and talked a little bit about the Vampire Diaries (begins at the 4:50 mark).
Courtesy of Spoiler TV, we have the casting call for Alaric, who seems to be making his appearance in #106 (or episode 7, see Episode Index). It’s spoilery, so proceed with caution (highlight the block below to read):
[ALARIC]
Mid 20’s to Early 30’s — Mystic Falls’ HOT new history teacher all the girls are crushing on. Smart, funny, and charming with a splash of cute nerd. He seems like a stand up guy until he starts to display some darker qualities. Turns out there is another side to this man. He can be quite ruthless and malicious. When we learn of his deadly agendas and the real reason he’s come to town — all hell breaks loose. GUEST STAR RECURRING/POSSIBLE SERIES REGULAR.
In regards to the Alaric casting sides that were posted elsewhere yesterday, you can read what we have to say about those in the Spoiler Zone. (Ironically, no real spoilers in there. You’ll see why.)
If we’re interpreting a tweet from Paul Sommers correctly, the director of #104 was Kevin Bray, who has directed for several TV shows, including Cold Case, Chuck, Heroes, and Veronica Mars, and also directed the feature film Walking Tall. Marcos Siega returns to directing duties for #105 – and by the comments we’re seeing here and there, this episode is going to be a special one. (Is it October yet?!)
TV Guide passed along this video, which just gives an overview of the show:
Oh, and in case you haven’t been keeping track: ONE WEEK LEFT ’til the debut of Vampire Diaries on the CW, Thursday, Sept. 10th, 8/7c.
TVGuide’s Fall Preview 2009 has launched and features The Vampire Diaries in its list of new shows as an Editors’ Pick. Ian Somerhalder is also featured in a “Familiar Faces of Fall TV” gallery, and Nina Dobrev in “Fresh Faces of Fall TV.”
A casting call has gone out for a male role in episode 103. Could be considered spoilery for some, so highlight the text below to view the details.
Logan Mills – (Late 20s/early 30s). Handsome. A charming reporter with a sharp tongue. Jenna’s potential love interest. Guest star. Possible recurring. All ethnicities.
Outside work dates: 8/10 – 8/22
Shoots in: Atlanta, Georgia
Finally, we’ve put together a page so that the Comic Con International videos, reviews, photos and links together are in one place. We’ll be updating that page rather than the individual blog posts from now on. Please let us know if you have links to any photos or reviews so we can add them.
The Black Bunny has an article up from Covington News – the local paper of Covington, Georgia – that looks to be transcribed from the paper itself (coming up empty-handed searching CovNews.com at the moment. Hopefully we’ll have a more official link soon, but the casting director’s name matches up with info we had so we’re fairly certain this is legit).
UPDATE: Here’s a link to a follow-up article on CovNews.com.
An open casting call for extras for the new television series “Vampire Diaries” will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Holiday Inn Express, located at 9159 Access Road N.W. in Covington.
“We are looking for all types of people, all age ranges, to work as paid extras in the series,” which will begin filming in Covington on July 21, Extras Casting Director Marty Keener Cherrix said.
And yes, that’s this Sunday, July 19th.
A couple of new cameo roles have been announced. From SpoilerTV:
[BROOKE] 22 – 26 years old, pretty and smart-looking, she’s driving home late at night on a secluded, foggy, country road with her boyfriend Darren when they hit someone with their car. She panics and hopes the victim is all right. When Darren doesn’t respond to her calls, she gets out of the car to investigate, and she’s whisked away by a terrifying, unseen force…Large Cameo, Teaser (1)
[DARREN] 22 – 26 years old, a bit grumpy but genuinely in love with Brooke, he’s driving home late at night on a secluded, foggy, country road with his girlfriend when they hit someone with their car. He gets out to investigate, and is attacked by a lightning-fast, terrifying vampire…Large Cameo, Teaser (1)
So, we can now speculate who this terrifying vampire is. Will it be Damon, and this is a scene to show us just what a wicked boy he can be? Or does the fog signify something a little more sinister? Perhaps this will be a teaser to let us know that there is an Other Power at work in ‘Mystic Falls’ (dear god, still painful. What was wrong with Fell’s Church?), and this is maybe our first glimpse of Katherine in the series. We can keep our fingers crossed.
And who exactly would count as a ‘large cameo’ for a supernatural TV series aimed at teens? The plot, it doth thicken. ;)
“The Vampire Diaries” centers on a tragic young heroine who is the object of passion for two vampire brothers — one good, one evil — who are at war for her soul and for the souls of her friends, family and other residents of the small town in which she resides.
