The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesIf you’re one of the fans who emitted squeals when laying eyes on Stefan’s and Damon’s boyish flashback locks (and Katherine’s voluminous ones) for the first time (let the record state that the first Lost Girls flashbacks stills emerged on October 5, 2009, and your humble V-D.net co-runner came down with a raging case of what is known as “Flail-y Hands”), then you have a two people in particular to thank: hair stylist Randa Squillacote and hair stylist/Vampire Diaries Hair Dept. head Daniel Curet.

A week ago, Mr. Curet tweeted TVD’s Emmy FYC ad for Outstanding Hairstyling in a Single-Camera Show for Children of the Damned, and yesterday followed up with scans of two new magazine features. The first is an interview with Curet from the June 2010 issue of American Salon and the second is a two-page spread, written by Curet, from Artisan, the official trade magazine of the Make-up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild. Both pieces touch on the inspiration behind the flashback looks (Curet cites the film Cold Mountain as a major influence), as well as the ’50s-themed dance of Unpleasantville (I Love Lucy, Lena Horne).

Huge thanks to @dancur for giving us permission to repost the scans. (The American Salon scan is actually bigger than the one originally posted, as I tracked down a copy.) As always, you can click the images to see bigger versions in our Gallery.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesFlashback eps are Very Special Episodes and Children of the Damned may have trumped Lost Girls in the costume and revelation department. Actually, no “may” about it – we think it did. There’s an ugly undercurrent running through the back story of Mystic Falls and how much of that past is actually foreshadowing? Yes, pondering human/vampire relations is making us philosophical, but how else to pass the time until March 25th? Only two more weeks until brand new episodes of The Vampire Diaries reclaim their rightful place on your television screens. (And guess what? I’ve seen the episode and it is worth the wait, I promise.) In the meantime, share your own philosophical musings in the forum, peruse the songlist, and rate the episode in our poll.

Thanks to Jen at Nina Dobrev Fan for the heads up that Mr. Zach Roerig will be on KTLA Morning News Thursday (this) morning! Make sure you tune in, Los Angeles. Sorry, we’re not exactly sure what time.

William Keck over at TV Guide Magazine has some Vampire Diaries factoids and spoilers about the upcoming episode, “A Few Good Men”. The factoid? Marguerite MacIntyre (Sheriff Forbes), Susan Walters (Mrs. Lockwood) and Melinda Clarke (Kelly Donovan) have all appeared as Jerry’s girlfriends on sitcom Seinfeld. The spoilers? Are spoilerific, so mouseover or highlight to read them:

All three of Jerry’s exes pop up in Melinda’s first episode, titled “A Few Good Men,” in which Sheriff Forbes asks Damon to participate in a bachelor auction officiated by Mrs. Lockwood. Beyond that, executive producer Julie Plec says that Matt’s mess of a mom will interfere in his relationship with Caroline, while Caroline’s mother will reveal to Damon why Alaric Saltzman really came to town. As for Tyler’s cougar mom, she’ll cope with her husband’s infidelity by trying to sink her claws into Damon.

While we wait (im)patiently for an official synopsis and some episode stills from “A Few Good Men” to pop up, we’ve got some more stills from “Children of the Damned” for you to ogle at. We may have seen the episode already, but the stills really do let you appreciate the amazing detail that went into these costumes. Roll on the final flashback of the season, we say.

Canadian Fans: Watch on CTV
UK Fans: Purchase from iTunes

Katerina Graham appeared on KTLA recently to talk about the Vampire Diaries, and you can watch the video of it below. Thanks to @CW_VampDiaries for the heads up.

Thanks to Denise for letting us know about this. UK newspaper “The Independent” has some Vampire Diaries features up online. There’s a short video featuring Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley (sorry, no embed options), and also an article all about the show.

…it’s worth noting Williamson and Plec’s recognition that a world with vampires in it should not ever be too cosy recalls not Twilight but that other great icon of teen vampire stories, Buffy. Williamson agrees. “What I loved about the L J Smith books was the folklore they created,” he says. “We wanted it to be a modern-day, sort of sexy soap opera. The town of Mystic Falls has a lot of things that go bump in the night, and it’s not just vampires. It’s got a little bit of Buffy where there’s that mythology that goes beyond vampires. There are all sorts of creatures of the night yet to emerge.”

Nina Dobrev is featured on the cover of the February issue of Indonesian magazine “Go Girl!”. For those of you who understand Indonesian, you can read the entire article here. Thanks to @DesiPuspandini for the scans!
