Heat Magazine are really getting into the excitement of the Vampire Diaries and have up a little article selling the TV series to UK audiences, calling it “sexier than Twilight and less icky than True Blood, this is one vampy series you simply MUST watch”. They also have an exclusive video interview with Ian Somerhalder talking about the series, which you can view here. Sadly, there are no embed options, but we’ll be sure to add it if it crops up on YouTube. Thank you to Amy for sending us the links.
Update: Thanks to @TwilighterVN for the YouTube video link.
Kristin over at E! Online has a nice Stefan and Damon teaser for “Children of the Damned”. Highlight/mouseover to see the spoiler:
This week’s The Vampire Diaries reveals one of the biggest secrets of all: What actually happened to make Damon and Stefan hate each other? “We get to see the incident that drove them apart for the first time,” says show runner Julie Plec. Ooh, “the incident”? sounds a little Lostish! Also, we’ll see Dexter’s James Remar for the first time as Papa Salvatore. Let’s just hope he lives by a very different code than Harry Morgan!
And a little more specific:
The incident that tore Damon and Stefan apart involves their mutual love of a certain Elena look-alike vampire. Turns out, Stefan might inadvertently be the reason Katherine was locked up in the tomb, hence Damon’s desire to free her, and his unexplained hatred of his little bro.
Many thanks to Tiaria for letting us know about book publications in Russia again. As far as we can tell (with the dubious help of Google Translate), “The Fury” is out now, and Russian fans can order it over on ozon.ru. For everyone else, we have the cover to the right (click it for the larger version in our gallery). Oh, Russia, we love your wacky and unrelated covers. So much. :D
Marijó has emailed to let us know that the Warner Channel in Argentina will be running a Vampire Diaries marathon on Saturday, February 6 and Saturday, February 13 from 4pm. Update: Looks like it’s all over Latin America – thanks, Angie.
The Televixen’s Vampire Diaries podcast (featuring Melissa (The Televixen), Connie from Blast Magazine, Lucia from HeroineTV, and our very own Vee) is up: Let’s Kill All the Awesome Chicks. If you missed the first podcast, you can head over and listen to Operation Suspenders.
Finally, the TwiCon Celebrity Craft Basket we mentioned a few weeks back is open for sign-ups. If you want to contribute to a gift basket for various cast members from the Vampire Diaries, True Blood and Twilight, then mosey on over to Twilight Crafts to find out more and sign up.

The first “Children of the Damned” webclip may have been removed for editing purposes, but the CW have been kind enough to replace it with a nice, new Vampire Diaries webclip featuring Elena, Stefan and Damon. It can’t all be flashbacks, after all. ;)

You have to give the Vampire Diaries a lot of credit for many things – writing, acting, directing – but we’ve got to say we really appreciate their attention to set detail. From Stefan’s room, props in “Family Ties” and the lush costumes used in flashback scenes. The sneak peeks for “Children of the Damned” (episode 13) that we’ve had so far appear to be the tip of the iceberg, because these new episode stills are full of some amazing costumes. Click on the thumbnails below, or head over to our “Children of the Damned” gallery.
UPDATE: As if the stills aren’t enough, BuzzSugar has a great quote from Nina Dobrev about Katherine (via the TCAs) that we hadn’t seen before. Spoilery!
Nina on what we can expect from Katherine: “There’s going to be an episode soon where you see a lot more Katherine. And you see how crazy she is, and how everything she does is for herself. Like boys, and how she likes to use them for her toys. They’re just there for her amusement.”

We’ve got a post filled with “Children of the Damned” (episode 13 of the Vampire Diaries) goodies for you, starting with the synopsis. It’s another episode of lush-looking flashbacks where we’ll be meeting a bunch of new characters, including Papa Salvatore.
MORE SECRETS OF THE SALVATORE FAMILY HISTORY ARE REVEALED
In flashbacks, Stefan and Damon recall the long-ago actions taken by townspeople including their father, Giuseppe Salvatore, and Pearl, leading to the devastating events that caused the rift in their relationship. In the present, Bonnie’s date with Ben takes a frightening turn. Elena helps Stefan as he and Damon race to find the missing journal that belonged to Elena’s ancestor. Stefan learns the reason behind Alaric’s interest in both the journal and the town’s history. Damon discovers that an old acquaintance has returned to town with an agenda he understands.

The picture features new character Pearl (Kelly Hu), Katherine looking stunning, and Damon in a lovely red… waistcoat… sorry, zoned out there. Waistcoat pr0n does it for us every time. ;)

Nina Dobrev has been confirmed as the first member of the Vampire Diaries team to be attending the Insurgence: Bloodlines convention in the UK. The con takes place on the 19-21 March and is for the Vampire Diaries along with two more of the CW’s shows, Supernatural and Smallville. No news yet on other members of the cast and crew attending, but we’ll post as soon as we hear anything.

Most of us had already worked out that this was a given due to threads in the story that need tying up, but we’ve got official information now. Fancast have heard from Julie Plec that Bianca Lawson will be returning as Emily Bennett in flashbacks during episode 13, “Children of the Damned”. The episode in question will be airing on February 4.
Thanks to Max for getting in touch to update us on the Vampire Diaries airing in Germany. We’ve previously mentioned that the series premieres in Germany on January 20 on the ProSieben channel, but we’ve been told that Austria and Switzerland also get the ProSieben channel and will be getting the series at the same time as Germany. As we understand it, the series has been dubbed into German, and if you’re curious about what Elena, Stefan and Damon sound like, you can watch a trailer for it below.
And finally, a book curiosity. We have no idea what it’s about, but it certainly piqued our interest. @Guinevere09 was poking around on the Harper Teen website and found… ‘Stefan’s Diaries‘. Given that Stefan doesn’t keep diaries in the books (though you never know, he might have one hidden in his sock drawer), we’re wondering if this is possibly some kind of TV series tie-in. Whatever it’s about, it’s due for release at the end of June and we’ll certainly be keeping an eye on it.
