The official EyeCon page has updated their guest line-up with Chris William Martin, aka Zach Salvatore from Vampire Diaries Season 1. Mr. Martin joins previously announced guests Paul Wesley and Rob Pralgo. Steven R. McQueen’s brother, Jessarae, is also set to perform at the event. The very first North American Vampire Diaries convention takes place in Atlanta, March 25-27. Visit the official site for information on tickets and the special hotel rate for con attendees.
MTV’s Hollywood Crush speculates on new guest star Ahna O’Reilly, who is featured in some rather intriguing episode stills from January 27th’s episode, The Descent (EP212).
Thanks to Devoted to Vampire Diaries for these outtakes from Nina Dobrev’s session with Flare Magazine.

Vampire Diaries is nominated alongside The Big Bang Theory, The Walking Dead, The Good Wife, and Fringe in the TV category of The Publicists Guild’s 48th annual Maxwell Weinberg Showmanship Awards. Winners will be announced at a ceremony on February 25th. According to the Hollywood Reporter:
“These campaigns represent the creativity and enterprise that entertainment publicists apply to attract the largest possible audiences for program they represent,” said Awards Committee Chairman Henri Bollinger.

The population of Mystic Falls is shaping up! Buckle up – we have a chunk of casting info for you today, confirmed by a reliable source:
Marguerite MacIntyre, perhaps best known for her role as Nicole Trager on Kyle XY, has been cast as Sheriff Forbes in The Vampire Diaries. Yes, that’s right, Caroline’s mother is the Mystic Falls sheriff. How kick ass is it to have a woman be the face of The Law in this particular town? Very.
As for Tyler’s parents: Robert Pralgo, whom you may recognize from Army Wives, will be Mayor Lockwood, and Atlanta-born Susan Walters will play Mrs. Lockwood.
Chris Johnson, of South Beach, will be Logan Fell (formerly known as Logan Mills in the casting call posted some days back). If you’ve read the books, you know why we’re particularly intrigued by this new character.

And we’re happy to say that despite his lack of mention in the official CW press release, Chris William Martin is still kicking around the Salvatore Boarding House as Zach, probably in a very snazzy sweater.

First up: the official CW press release for The Vampire Diaries has revealed a few more character name changes – one of which book fans will be more than familiar with. Jenna, formerly Moyer and played by Sara Canning, is now Jenna Somers (we’re not a hundred percent on that spelling as Elena’s mother’s maiden name is clearly Sommers on the gravestone in the pilot and the press release also lists Tyler as “Taylor” Lockwood). And Caroline, formerly Truitt and played by Candice Accola, is now…Caroline Forbes! Yes, our favorite runner-up will be retaining her original surname from the books. We’re also loving the write-up in the release: “…the manipulative Caroline Forbes, the nemesis of former friend Elena Gilbert.”
Noticeably absent from the cast list on the press release? Chris William Martin, who played Zach in the pilot. Seems a rather significant role to be bumped to a recurring guest spot, and he’s been listed on official promotional items up ’til now. (We’ve actually been wondering about this since Marcos Siega posted this photo to Twitter back in July.) Is the Salvatore Boarding House getting a new landlord…or lady? It’s okay – he’s still around!
Thanks to A.M. “Feather Duster” Hartnett for pointing out that Paul Wesley was featured on the front page of IMDb today as part of their TCA coverage. Here’s a screencap in case it goes away soon.
New promo picture of Ian, Nina, and Paul, plus write-up, in the August 10th issue of TV Guide, courtesy of SpoilerTV (click to enlarge):
We only have one word: WAISTCOATS. ETA: Actually, we have more than that – Ian confirms that the Salvatores were amongst the original settlers of Mystic Falls.
And finally, Blast Magazine has a follow-up article to their Comic Con Vampire Diaries pilot review, and it’s full of quote-y goodness: Nina ponders whether she’ll get to do action scenes, Paul reveals his favorite scene (and it hasn’t even happened yet), and Ian teases that “evil” is about perspective. Oh, and Julie Plec dropped this:
“There was this ongoing joke about Damon and oranges on (a fansite) and I thought I had missed something in the books. So, I went back and tried to re-read everything because I didn’t want [fans] to think I hadn’t gone through it,” Plec added “So, that site posted it up, and I thought, ‘Perfect! Now at some point we can have Damon with an orange in a scene!’ So it’s just a little nod towards fans.”
If the Vampire-Diaries.net legacy is nothing else, folks, there will be an orange. And we’re pretty blown away by the fandom service of that. (However, we want to point out that if Damon happens to be shirtless in that scene, that’s all Julie.)
Read the entire article over at Blast.

Man, we wish this trailer had been released a week ago. Context makes all the difference. Not to knock the footage we’ve seen so far, but this trailer is about a million times better in every way. We have tons of new footage and alternate (and, in our opinion, superior) takes of scenes we have seen. We’re also ridiculously pleased to have some answers to questions floating since the pilot’s filming.
Anyway, as promised (and because it’s what we do), we’re going to touch on spoilery stuff beneath the cut so if you don’t want to know anything, or have yet to read the books, we recommend saving the surprises.
SOMETHING SPOILERY THIS WAY COMES
