If you’re a U.S. college student interested in TV and promotion, the CW has an opportunity for you: Making the Cut IV.
If you are a college student, “Making the Cut “ is challenging you to create a killer trailer that could jump start your creative career by winning an Unpaid internship at The CW Television Network. Did we mention your spot could air on TV? That’s right, your trailer airing on one of the biggest television networks on the planet. Does it get any better than that?
The creative objective of this competition (and don’t forget this is a competition) is to put together a piece of non-traditional promotion that captures the essence of one of the following shows: Gossip Girl, 90210, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries.
For more information on rules and how to enter, check out the CW Blog. Again, the contest is only open to U.S. citizens of 18 years of age or older. Contest deadline is April 23rd. Good luck!

Flashback eps are Very Special Episodes and Children of the Damned may have trumped Lost Girls in the costume and revelation department. Actually, no “may” about it – we think it did. There’s an ugly undercurrent running through the back story of Mystic Falls and how much of that past is actually foreshadowing? Yes, pondering human/vampire relations is making us philosophical, but how else to pass the time until March 25th? Only two more weeks until brand new episodes of The Vampire Diaries reclaim their rightful place on your television screens. (And guess what? I’ve seen the episode and it is worth the wait, I promise.) In the meantime, share your own philosophical musings in the forum, peruse the songlist, and rate the episode in our poll.
Thanks to Jen at Nina Dobrev Fan for the heads up that Mr. Zach Roerig will be on KTLA Morning News Thursday (this) morning! Make sure you tune in, Los Angeles. Sorry, we’re not exactly sure what time.

KryptonSite gave us some sweet stills earlier this evening, and now we have the official episode description for A Few Good Men, the 15th episode of The Vampire Diaries (thanks, Craig!). Highlight to read or head to the Episode Index:
MELINDA CLARKE (“THE O.C.”) GUEST STARS AS MATT’S LONG-LOST MOTHER — Matt and Caroline are surprised by the sudden reappearance of Matt’s mother Kelly (guest star Clarke). Stefan and Elena are worried about Damon’s new attitude. Damon is asked by Sheriff Forbes to take part in a fund-raising bachelor auction. Alaric discovers shocking secrets from his own past. With help from Jenna and Stefan, Elena is determined to find out everything she can about her birth mother, but the truth may be more than she can handle.
Josh Butler directed the episode written by Brian Young.
The Hollywood Reporter talked with CW President Dawn Ostroff about the upcoming pilot season and she gives her perspective on what The Vampire Diaries adds to the network’s line-up (and even touches on the possibility of a spin-off):
THR: Between the durability of “Smallville,” “Supernatural” and the popularity of “Vampire Diaries,” should the CW head in a more genre-driven direction?
Ostroff: What “Vampire Diaries” has done so well is that it’s not just a genre show, it has romance and humor and friends that feel like family. There are so many elements that work on different levels. So although it is a genre or sci-fi show, it has a lot of other elements that make the show work for all of our audience. We picked up a show called “Be-Twixt,” which is a genre show if you will, but it has many of the same elements.

THREE WEEKS. How are you holding up? The good news is that the CW is counting down to new episodes of The Vampire Diaries (March 25th!) with three excellent eps, back to back, and tonight is the cheekily titled Unpleasantville. A kiss in the headlights! Bonnie’s bangs! Stefan’s and Damon’s dance moves! Alaric “balls of vervain” Saltzman! Stalker!Anna and Clueless!Jeremy. Two tools named Noah and Ben. And, yes, miz Elena “I have pencils and I am not messin’ around” Gilbert. Oh, and did we mention the best songlist of any episode thus far? Relive those magic moments tonight, vote in the poll, and discuss with your fellow fans in the forum.
Also, @LilMissX posted this new behind the scenes still of Ian, Nina, and Paul to help soothe those hiatus jitters:

And via Michael Ausiello, a spoilery tidbit on what we can expect from Damon in upcoming episodes:
Question: How does Damon cope with the news that Katherine was never in the tomb on The Vampire Diaries? —Christine
Ausiello: “Damon spends most of episode 14 and a good portion of 15 drunk,” reveals exec producer Julie Plec. “Watching him sort of spiral into the abyss of self pity is kind of hilarious.”
