It’s a round of cheers and jeers, fandom, because tonight is the Vampire Diaries Season 2 mid-season finale, By the Light of the Moon. In THIS corner, we have an event we’ve all been waiting for (and it’s gonna last hoooooooours), an event that’s either cause for celebration or much distress, and a new character rolling into town, played by guest star Michaela McManus. And, unfortunately, in THAT corner we have the looming winter hiatus. Yes, that’s right, after tonight The Vampire Diaries will be on hiatus until late January so the TVD cast and crew can have a much-deserved break and you can have quality time with your loved ones. You know, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Also? Mid-season finale pretty much screams EPIC CLIFFHANGER, doesn’t it? If you are in need of a support group during what will undoubtedly be a stressful hour of TV, join Vampire-Diaries.net staff and our friends/readers/followers for the Vampire Diaries Virtual Viewing Party at PHILO! There will be prizes! And a lot of “OMFG!” And love and snark! All in all, a fun time for all. We hope to see you there!
LAST CHANCE to enter our Smart Pop Books A Visitor’s Guide to Mystic Falls contest! Two contests – one by us and one by Smart Pop – to win the journal, necklace, and Civil War-era papers used in the actual photo shoot for the book cover. Both contests end tonight at midnight EST!

Oh, boy. The CW has posted the extended promo for By the Light of the Moon (EP211). Savor it, Vampire Diaries fans, because after this, no new episodes until 2011. In the meantime – can you help us get out of this dress?

SHORT PROMO AND WEBCLIP FOR BY THE LIGHT OF THE MOON (EP211)
COMPLETE SONGLIST FOR THE SACRIFICE (EP210)
We’ve got the Salvatores making dubious-sounding plans to save Elena, the Gilberts each putting their own harebrained strategies into action, and Caroline and Tyler are off exploring sinister dungeons in the woods …what could possibly go wrong?
Watch and then swing by here to rate the new episode of The Vampire Diaries. Spoilers are welcome in the comments, though if you want some more in-depth discussion then head on over to the forums! (You’ll need to register, but it takes two seconds.)
You can also participate in the chatroom, and we have a channel specifically for discussing the episode live – just click on the tab when you’re in the main chatroom. You will need to be a member of the forums to join in.
Quick guide to the poll options: A decent sacrifice requires a pointy object to do the deed. We’re sure Klaus could come up with something more impressive than the humble dagger (his grand reputation precedes him, right?), but it’s good enough for us. 5 daggers = LOVE. 1 dagger = MEH.

It’s on, Vampire Diaries fans! Starting tonight at 8/7c with The Sacrifice, only two new TV episodes before the dreaded winter hiatus, so let’s make these count, alright? When we last left the gang, Elena came to a crushing realization, Caroline confided in Stefan about confiding in Tyler, Bonnie left Jeremy alone at the pool table, Damon had plans for the moonstone, Rose cried a lot, a surprising alliance was revealed, another surprising alliance happened in front of a fireplace, and Katherine revealed she was the safest psychotic bitch in town. Did we miss anything? As for what’s in store tonight, we know Tyler and Caroline go on a field trip to the old Lockwood estate and Stefan and Damon reveal their “awesome” plan for doppelgänger domination to Elena. She is not so convinced with the “awesome” part, turns out. (And, we gotta say, we’re on the side of Gilbert Logic here.) Tune in! (p.s. I love the above still SO MUCH.)
FOOTBALL SUCKS: Sorry, Houston and Baltimore fans, but your CW affiliates are playing local football instead of Vampire Diaries tonight. Houston, you can catch The Sacrifice on channel 39 on Saturday, Dec. 4th at 7pm; Baltimore, tune in to channel 54 on Saturday, December 4th at 8pm.

EXTENDED PROMO & EPISODE STILLS FOR THE SACRIFICE (EP210)
Okay, hands up those of you who are really looking forward to tonight’s flashback episode? We know we are. Not least because we get to see Nina Dobrev play yet another incarnation of Katherine (or Katerina as she was known back then), but also because we get to see an entirely new period wardrobe as the show takes us back to 15th century Bulgaria.
Quick guide to the poll options: In honour of both Nina and Katherine’s Bulgarian roots, we’re waving the Bulgarian flag today. 5 Flags = LOVE. 1 Flag = MEH.

Thanks to Retrofit Films – the fantastic team behind the Vampire Diaries Season 1 DVD special features and the web series A Darker Truth – for pointing out that Bloodlines Revealed has officially launched on cwtv.com! Bloodlines is a free interactive game that allows you (the player) to log in with your Facebook and let Jeremy boss you around guide you in search of an important item hidden in the Salvatore library. Once you find the item, you’ll unlock a sneak peek at a future episode of The Vampire Diaries. (Actually, if you play the first level more than once, you can find two new episode clips, one featuring Elena and the other featuring Tyler and Caroline.)
