K!dult’s Lee Hernandez interviews Mystic Falls’ favorite (only?) history teacher, Matt Davis, about his role on The Vampire Diaries, the role he’s most recognized for, his interests outside of acting, and how those interests make it to his Twitter, @ErnestoRiley.
On The Vampire Diaries you play a history teacher. Are you a history buff in real life?
I’m an alternative history buff more than anything else. I have a passion for conspiracy theories, alternative histories, and different points of view that you don’t necessarily get exposed to in public schools.

Thanks to Kat from Portrait Magazine for the heads up on the magazine’s August cover, which features Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder (by popular demand). The issue features a lot of Vampire Diaries content, including: 25 Reasons we Love Nina Dobrev, Hanging with the Vampire Diaries cast in Sydney!, Ian Somerhalder: A Star with Conviction, Confessions of a TV-Holic: Crushing on the Bad Boy…, and Rise of the Vampires (the best Vampire Diaries quotes).
Think we forgot to post these a few days ago: CW Source has new video interviews with Nina Dobrev, Steven R. McQueen & Julie Plec from Comic Con. Nina talks about the challenge of a character imitating another character, Steven discusses not discussing what’s going on with Jeremy, and Julie talks about the big surprises in the Season 1 finale.
And finally, thanks to Ian Somerhalder Italy, here’s Ian’s shot from L’uomo Vogue. Click to see a bigger version in the Gallery.

Whatever weight you decide to give the CW Sourcies (we found it to be a good bit of fun, though some people were taking it awfully serious – did we mention we’re massive Supernatural fans, too?), it was entertaining indeed to watch fandom rally. CW Source has posted their recap of this month’s polls, and Vampire Diaries won 8 out of the 10 categories, including Best Kiss, Best Fight, Hottest Moment, Best Villain, Biggest Surprise, Best Recurring Character, Favorite Bad Boy and Best Cliffhanger. We especially loved this quote:
Now there’s a new 800-pound gorilla in The CW jungle, and its name is The Vampire Diaries.
Still particularly proud/amused/disturbed that Katherine (barely) pwned Lucifer in Best Villain. Hee!

We’ve been having fun with this year’s CW Sourcies, since Vampire Diaries TV fandom is all shiny n’ new n’ stuff. Now CW Source has posted the final category in the round and it’s a big one: Best Cliffhanger. And we’d just like to point out that Vampire Diaries actually had several cliffhangers within their cliffhanger, thus making it a perfect storm of cliffhanger…ness. You have until July 21st to get your vote on, and until July 19th to keep Damon well ahead of the pack in the Favorite Bad Boy category.

The CW Sourcies has launched another category – and it’s a big one: Favorite Bad Boy. And, as if there was any doubt, Damon Salvatore is representing The Vampire Diaries. Do we really need to say more?
And don’t forget you can still vote for Anna in Best Recurring Character.

While we may not think that Damon protesting to Elena “No, Elena, I will NOT go to your bedroom with you!” was the funniest moment in the Vampire Diaries ever (we have a fondness for the exchange about vampire literature between Damon and Caroline, for one), it’s definitely funny and worth voting for it over at the CW Sourcies.
For those of you wondering about the outcome of the (very tense and exciting) battle between Katherine and Lucifer as best villain… you’ll be pleased to know that Katherine took the prize. It was really close, though. You can still also vote for the Vampire Diaries in the most surprising moment category.

Look, yes, we know that Supernatural’s little offering at the end of the season finale was indeed a (rather amusing) surprise, but seriously – can that really beat the surprise that the Vampire Diaries threw at us? Elena snogs Damon then chops off Uncle John’s fingers before stabbing him in the gut… and fandom’s collective jaw dropped as we realised it was Katherine posing as Elena. Nothing can beat that, we’re sure you all agree. And so we urge you to go and vote for the Vampire Diaries as having the biggest surprise in the CW Sourcies. ;)
You can still vote for Katherine as best villain (come on, she’s even better than the devil! Don’t let Lucifer win! He was falling to pieces by the end of the season – at least Katherine was looking really great while being wicked!), though the less said about Damon not winning most heartbreaking moment, the better.

Oh, we’ve got this, Vampire Diaries fans – CW Sourcies has opened their Best Villain category and guess who’s up as the baddest of the bad? I’m Team Katherine all the way – yes, even over Lucifer. Lucifer! By the way, Stefan and Elena won Hottest Moment – as if there was any doubt.
And don’t forget: Last chance to vote for your favorite Heartbreaking Moment.

The Vampire Diaries is certainly making its mark on the CW Sourcies. Damon and Katherine have already taken best kiss, and now Damon and Alaric vs the tomb vampires have taken best fight. Voting is still open for ‘hottest moment’, so if you want to see Elena and Stefan giving into their desire win, head on over and vote. While you’re at it, you can also vote in the new ‘most heartbreaking moment’ category, which has Damon discovering Katherine wasn’t in the tomb up there for the Vampire Diaries.
