We’ve added the synopsis for episode 4, “Family Ties” to the episode index – if you’re avoiding spoilers, don’t click that link. ;) The episode was directed by Guy Ferland and written by Andrew Kreisberg and Brian Young. You can find more information about the episode over in the Spoiler Zone in the forums.

For those of you who missed Damon in the promotional poster we posted on Wednesday, fear not, he’s back for this brand new poster from the CW. There are also some textless images from this shoot in our gallery.

Game on, Elena

Finally, yes, we do know about the Tyler Shields photoshoot story. It is what it is. Moving right along now.

Episode four of the Vampire Diaries now has a title: “Family Ties”. We also have a bunch of episode stills, and now have photographic evidence that Jenna actually exists. ;) There’s also a picture of Vicki at the end that looks distinctly posed, so we’re thinking it may (though we won’t swear to it) be a picture from a photoshoot rather than a still from the episode. Kayla at the Greystone Mansion shoot, perhaps?

Ian stopped by the PIX studios to help out with their Vampire Diaries blood drive and to talk Damon Salvatore, stunts, uncomfortable contact lenses, and Lost.

Elena and StefanMan, there must be some really hungry vampires out there right now. @RedCrossBloodGA have reported that they’ve managed to collect over 1330 pints of blood so far in Georgia with the Vampire Diaries blood drives, and there are still 20 more drives scheduled to take place. They also achieved what they’re calling a record for them at the Georgia Tech blood drive, with 500 pints of blood donated. How cool is that?

With less than 24 hours to go until the series premieres (and where on earth has the past six months vanished to?!), there are lots of reviews and such pinging around the internet. A lot of them say the same things, and we’ll be here all night if we try and list every single one, so we’re just going to post a selection of them here for you to get stuck into.

Television Without Pity have up a fun (if a little inaccurate) article comparing various bits of the Vampire Diaries, True Blood and Twilight (fair warning, the article contains book spoilers). They’ve also added a Vampire Diaries section to their forums, so head on over for some TWoP-style discussion.

The New York Times have up a positive and amusing review that suggests (among other things) that Paul Wesley resembles Matt Dillon (points given for not comparing Paul to the usual suspects, points immediately retracted for making us feel so old), and that Damon seems like the kind of guy to steal mittens from eight-year-olds. Quite why he’d want to and what he’d do with the mittens, we don’t know, but the scenario that conjures up is hilarious.

There are more, which we’ll link to quickly. Variety have gone the punny route with their review (though they reckon the series is worth a look), while Starpulse‘s review looks more into the TV series compared with the books. The Los Angeles Times seem to be digging the whole gothic romance angle of the series, and Zap2it really seem to like Candice Accola’s portrayal of Caroline Forbes.

Hopefully tomorrow is going to provide us with some interesting and entertaining news in the run-up to the premiere, and we’ll be setting up the blog and forums ready for you guys to tell us all what you think of the Vampire Diaries pilot once you’ve seen it.

As of right now, there are 19 hours, 46 mins and 37 seconds left to wait. ;)

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesIan dropped by MTV’s It’s On with Alexa Chung today to talk Vampire Diaries and Damon Salvatore and his return to Lost (as in he’s getting on a plane to Hawaii this Friday with a 36-hour turnaround for filming – Boone will appear in three episodes). He also name-checked Barnabus Collins of Dark Shadows as the best vampire ever, and discussed how he thinks there’s always room for more vampires on TV, calling Kevin Williamson “a genius,” and praising the show’s ensemble cast.

We’re waiting for the video to post on MTV. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s up and add it to this post.

UPDATE: We have a photo of Ian on set at Alexa Chung today, courtesy of MTV.

UPDATE 2: Video’s up! Many thanks to Lora for uploading to YouTube so everyone can enjoy.

Also, thanks to lilacstar1 on YouTube, we have the Daytime EMMY Red Carpet pre-show snippet of Ian introducing a clip from The Vampire Diaries (we’ve edited it down to just Ian’s segment – and hi, Zach!):

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesWe’ve been seeing this syndicated Zap2It article by John Crook pop up in various (abbreviated) forms the past 24 hours – I do believe it’s what a lot of you have been telling us about seeing in your city paper’s weekend sections – but this version seems to be the longest we’ve seen online. (All this news + a wicked head cold = I could not be very observant. Sorry.) In any case, maximum quote-age from Paul, Nina, Ian, and Kevin abounds (and bonus points for calling Ian’s eyebrows “Machiavellian”) :

For his part, Williamson says Vampire Diaries has become a real passion project for him. “Paul, Ian and Nina are in that first-season euphoria right now that is so contagious,” he says, laughing. “But it’s really a blast. I’m having a lot of fun. I haven’t been this excited about something in a really long time. Now we just have to wait and see if people respond to it. But it feels like we have something really special here.”

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesSome odds and ends to gather ’round. First up, thanks to Marissa for letting us know that The Vampire Diaries is scheduled to begin airing on the Go! Channel in Australia this October. Still no exact start date, but better than the general “end of 2009″ we’d been hearing. As soon as we have a date, we’ll let you know.

Many thanks to Caroline for these scans of Paul and Ian talking Stefan and Damon in the new issue of US Weekly (you guys can stop asking us about whether Paul is single now, thaaaaank you) and Ian in the Fall Preview 2009 issue of TV Guide.

And finally, CW Source has posted their Comic Con interview with Nina. She talks about the usual topics here, but also provides a teaser for the second episode, “Night of the Comet.”
