The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesCourtesy of Spoiler TV, we have the casting call for Alaric, who seems to be making his appearance in #106 (or episode 7, see Episode Index). It’s spoilery, so proceed with caution (highlight the block below to read):

[ALARIC] Mid 20′s to Early 30′s — Mystic Falls’ HOT new history teacher all the girls are crushing on. Smart, funny, and charming with a splash of cute nerd. He seems like a stand up guy until he starts to display some darker qualities. Turns out there is another side to this man. He can be quite ruthless and malicious. When we learn of his deadly agendas and the real reason he’s come to town — all hell breaks loose. GUEST STAR RECURRING/POSSIBLE SERIES REGULAR.

In regards to the Alaric casting sides that were posted elsewhere yesterday, you can read what we have to say about those in the Spoiler Zone. (Ironically, no real spoilers in there. You’ll see why.)

If we’re interpreting a tweet from Paul Sommers correctly, the director of #104 was Kevin Bray, who has directed for several TV shows, including Cold Case, Chuck, Heroes, and Veronica Mars, and also directed the feature film Walking Tall. Marcos Siega returns to directing duties for #105 – and by the comments we’re seeing here and there, this episode is going to be a special one. (Is it October yet?!)

TV Guide passed along this video, which just gives an overview of the show:

Oh, and in case you haven’t been keeping track: ONE WEEK LEFT ’til the debut of Vampire Diaries on the CW, Thursday, Sept. 10th, 8/7c.

Stefan and DamonZap2it has posted up some brand new Vampire Diaries promo pics of the cast from the Greystone Mansion shoot by photographer Andrew Eccles. There are eight photos in total (so far) of Paul Wesley (Stefan), Ian Somerhalder (Damon), Nina Dobrev (Elena), Katerina Graham (Bonnie), Candice Accola (Caroline) and Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy). It would be nice to see these in higher quality, so hopefully we’ll be able to get our hands on some of those soon. Now the burning question is: where are Matt, Tyler and Vicki?

In production news, Marcos Siega twittered earlier that episode 103 will be directed by Guy Ferland, known for work on The Shield, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Eleventh Hour. Good to see another choice of director whose work certainly isn’t your average teenage fare.

Finally, a billboard advert for the Vampire Diaries has been spotted in LA. Fingers crossed it doesn’t cause too many accidents or the CW could be neck-deep in personal injury claims. ;) Thanks to Michael Trevino and the folks over at MediaBlvd for directing us to this.

John DahlMarcos Siega and Kevin Williamson both tweeted this morning to say that episode 102 of the Vampire Diaries will be directed by John Dahl, whose work includes episodes of True Blood, Dexter and Battlestar Galactica. The producers and cast have been saying all along that the TV version of the Vampire Diaries will be much more than the romance between Stefan and Elena, and will be darker than viewers might expect. So far the choice in Marcos Siega (also known for directing episodes of True Blood and Dexter) and John Dahl as directors certainly seems to back that up.

In other TV series news, Brazilian fans will be delighted to learn that they’ll be seeing the Vampire Diaries in Brazil. VampireDiariesBr.com has let us know that the Warner Channel will be showing the series, though no actual air date has been given yet. We’ll keep you posted.
