The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesSteven R. McQueen made the interview rounds today and he’s talking Jeremy/Bonnie (of course), Uncle John, Klaus, Tyler, and how he’d like Jeremy to get further and further into the Mystic Falls supernatural mix.

Zap2It: ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Steven R. McQueen on Uncle John’s plan for Jeremy, plus the Bonnie romance heats up

McQueen has his fingers crossed that Bonnie and Elena won’t be put in the situation where one of them must sacrifice their life for the other. “It’s definitely a possibility, but I don’t think Jeremy could handle that,” he says. “I think, come what may, Jeremy would sacrifice himself before he’d let anything hurt Bonnie or Elena.”

You hear that, Luka (Bryton James)? If you try to mess with Bonnie any more, Jeremy’s coming for you. “Damn right!” McQueen says. “Damn right. Nobody’s messing with Jeremy’s girl. He’s pretty defensive with Luka right now, but we can expect to see things even out a little bit with them coming up.”

Entertainment Weekly: ‘Vampire Diaries’ scoop: Star Steven R. McQueen says ‘Things start to heat up’ with Jeremy and Bonnie this week

Has he ever asked the writers why Jeremy’s sister, Elena, who we’re told needs to be sacrificed by a wolf or vampire to break a curse, can’t just wear the ring he’s currently sporting that keeps its human bearer from dying a supernatural death? “I haven’t asked it, just because I want to keep wearing it. [Elena's sibling] is a four-year-old girl named Margaret in the books,” he says, “and that’s not exactly job security on my side. [In a pleading voice] I’m hoping to keep that ring on my finger.”

E!Online: The Vampire Diaries’ Steven R. McQueen Dishes on Jeremy and Bonnie—and Kicking Klaus’ Ass

“Klaus is the most powerful vampire there is. He has power over every other vampire and he can compel every vampire,” Steven says. “He’s the guy with all the power. And his intentions aren’t all that great. He’s trying to sacrifice someone in my family and I don’t want that to happen. We’re trying to do everything we can to stop it.”

BuddyTV: ‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Steven R. McQueen: ‘I’ve Got a Couple of Loose Screws Upstairs’

From our fans on Twitter, @mus1c_ wants to know: Which other character from the show would you like to see Jeremy share more scenes with?
Steven R. McQueen: Any of them! I would love to see Jeremy start training in the vampire hunting ways a little more, maybe with Alaric, possibly with Uncle John. Even though that’s a bit of a complicated relationship, just to start accepting his family responsibility and start getting involved with the whole vampire hunting thing.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesEntertainment Weekly‘s Mandi Bierly spoke with Lauren Cohan about her time on Vampire Diaries as Rose and the guest star provides some fun insight into shooting of a particularly difficult scene. (You’ll know which one.) And the savvy Bierly asked Cohan about the famous “It’s okay to love them both” scene present in the CW promo but cut from the final airing of The Descent.

“I loved that piece between Rose and Elena because I think Rose looked at Elena like a younger sister in a way, and it really was okay that Elena loves different things in both of these men. Being conflicted doesn’t make her a bad person. It was almost like Rose needed to tell her to not be so hard on herself and to not give up,” she says. “It was really cute because Elena tried to cover the fact that she does love them both in a way. That’s when Rose kinda pushed her to say it. [She's saying] ‘Come on. Just admit it. You don’t have to feel bad about it,’ in the same breath as, ‘Own who you are. It’s okay to let them fight for you. It’s okay to want to live. And it’s okay to be conflicted. Keep going.’”

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesEntertainment Weekly has an entertaining and VERY informative Vampire Diaries primer in anticipation of tonight’s episode, The Descent. It is also chock full o’ interesting tidbits, including this hint about The Dinner Party (EP215), aka the next flashback episode:

In addition to the point-of-view in the [Johnathan Gilbert] journals, ”We see Stefan’s side of the story, and we see Damon’s side of the story, and it’s told by both of them, to two different people,” she says. ”It has a lot of different meanings depending on who’s telling the story and who it’s being told to. It ends up hitting home with a lot of different people and affecting their decisions.” Williamson says it does relate back to the Elijah-Klaus story somehow, giving us more to ponder.

And is the Vampire Diaries set cursed? Ian Somerhalder, Julie Plec, Kevin Williamson, Michael Trevino, and Paul Wesley chime in on sickness, ankle and back injuries, and inclement weather.

“Oh yeah. We’re plagued. Plagued with injury,” exec producer Julie Plec told us in late December. “Nina [Dobrev] threw her back out and was sidelined for weeks. And then Paul Wesley fell and twisted his ankle and has been in a boot.” When we talked to Wesley earlier this month, the boot was off, and the actor, who was on crutches for three weeks and had to delay shooting, was nearly 100 percent recovered — except for maybe his pride. “I was running down the street in a pair of boots in LA, and it was raining, and I had an umbrella, and whatever, I fell on the curb. It’s ridiculous. I wish I had a better story for you. I wish I could have told you that I karate-kicked an assailant. But unfortunately, it was my own stupidity and clumsiness,” he said, laughing. “Very anti-Stefan. I think that would be great if Stefan was running down the street and he sprained his ankle. That would humanize him a little bit, you know.”

IMG DESCEntertainment Weekly has an exclusive look at CW’s new mid-season promo. In addition to the new “Catch VD” tag line, we have a new one: “Got Wood?”

Asked whether this is yet another attempt to lure viewers with racy marketing, The CW’s Department of Double Entendres had no comment.

“Catch VD” on an all-black billboard? Okay, fine, whatever. We’re disappointed at the cheap joke (which, for the record, has been around far longer than this TV series and it was old and not entirely clever then). But “Catch VD” next to a photo of Paul, Nina, and Ian? Really? Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive first look at the CW’s ad/billboard campaign for The Vampire Diaries. If you’ve followed this blog for a while, you know we’re not lacking in a sense of humor. So why are we left feeling that Vampire Diaries deserves so much better than this? (Click to see bigger version in the Gallery.)

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesThe fact we’re dedicating a blog post to this indicates we have no shame, but then we did dedicate an entire post to Stefan’s bedroom once upon a time. (Again, because we have no shame.) Entertainment Weekly‘s Mandi Bierly gives Vampire Diaries fans a sneak peek at Damon’s bedroom (you’ll remember Zap2It‘s Carina MacKenzie also dropped some tidbits last month). Sadly, we have no pictures, but there are details of the “masculine, sexy” space galore, including:

“The one really amazing thing, of course,” [Somerhalder] continues, “[is] they had this bed custom-made. This thing, I’m not even kidding you, it’s gigantic. You splice together two king-sized beds… Damon could fit an entire sorority on this bed, which I’m sure at some point he will.” (Williamson likes to refer to it as Damon’s “throne.”)

You guys, we’re really having to restrain our commentary here, but we have no problem quoting the fabulous @abbygraham:

@tvdnews Hey, can we pile Damon’s nifty new bed with fans and send a snapshot to the Parent’s Television Council? ;)

Check out some of the tidbits dropped in the article below the scans (highlight for spoilers):

  • We will learn Rose’s fate by the end of next week’s episode, The Descent.
  • Tyler will learn that Caroline has been lying to him. But Stefan is going to try and convince Tyler that werewolves and vampires don’t have to be enemies. Tyler will have to choose sides.
  • There will be a “violent” confrontation with the werewolves in Daddy Issues and “retaliation” in Crying Wolf.
  • Episode 215 will be a flashback episode, sparked by Elena’s discovery of more Johnathan Gilbert journals.
  • According to Julie Plec, Bonnie is going to be “ready to rumble” by late February, after she discovers Luka and Dr. Martin are working with Elijah. And Kevin Williamson says Bonnie and Jeremy will kiss “sooner or later.”
  • Paul Wesley says that we will see Stefan’s dark side again, but this time in the immediate afterman of the church-burning in 1864, and a particular character will be the one to pull him back from the brink. (He’s not saying who, so start speculating!)
  • The Salvatores, out of concern for Elena’s safety, will be forced into an uneasy alliance with John Gilbert (David Anders) so they can learn more information about the Originals.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesEntertainment Weekly‘s Mandi Bierly catches up with Sara Canning to discuss what lies in store for Jenna in Season 2 now that she’s in a relationship with Alaric, how Uncle John may screw that all up, and hints that something more significant will go on between Jenna and Elijah (!!!), though she’s coy about what that means.

Speaking of the Originals, we know Elijah (Daniel Gillies), who’s posing as an author researching small towns, has already met Jenna, who got roped into playing Historical Society hostess in the last episode. Will they be seeing more of each other? “Yes,” Canning says. “When Elijah first comes to town, they have a pretty introductory kind of ‘hello, what are you up to here, this is what I do’ relationship. But we’ll see that grow into something else. And that is all I’m saying.”

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesEntertainment Weekly‘s Mandi Bierly caught up with Julie Plec to get an update on the search for Klaus. A few hundred actors have already read for the role and Julie says the show is getting “great” tapes from England and Australia, which may help in casting a fresh face unfamiliar to North American audiences.

They’re willing to think outside the box. “The big important elements of this character are charisma and gravitas. You’ve got to be able to be afraid of this guy, whether you’re afraid of him because he looks scary or because he’s so charming that the fact that he can snap your neck with his pinky would take you by surprise. So whether he’s an Old Word-flavored guy or new hip, contemporary, speedy kinda guy, that remains to be seen. We’ll see what actor we connect to the most.”
