Ratings are in, with the Vampire Diaries pulling in 2.84 million viewers according to TV by the Numbers. Please remember that the Vampire Diaries is the top rated show on the CW and is in no danger of being cancelled, and these figures don’t take into account the people who DVR the show to watch American Idol live (traitors! Yes, you at the back, we’re looking at you!). So don’t take these numbers so seriously that you worry about the fate of the show.
We’re not entirely sure what’s up with iTunes, but it took them a while to get the links up for the US and the UK, and not everyone has been able to access downloads. Just be patient with it.
Canadian fans can watch the episode over at the CTV website.

The ratings are in for last night’s episode of The Vampire Diaries (Speaking of – welcome back, show, right? The recaps and reviews have been overwhelmingly enthusiastic!) According to TV by the Numbers, Daddy Issues averaged 3.2 million viewers.
On the CW, The Vampire Diaries 1.4 adults 18-49 rating slipped 12% vs. last week (although it was up 4% in the women 18-34 demo that CW targets to a 2.4 rating)
So that’s down from last week but still solid. Also, there seemed to be a lot of picture/sound issues in Toronto, Mississippi, Florida, and Los Angeles last night; if you gave up on watching live because of that, ep downloads are below or you can catch Daddy Issues again on Wednesday, February 9th at 9pm on the CW.
Canadian fans: watch the episode the CTV website or MuchMusic.

The ratings are in for last night’s airing of The Descent and, according to TV By the Numbers, the episode pulled in around 3.46 million viewers. That’s TVD holding steady against the American Idol juggernaut, folks. Not bad. Not bad at all.
The Vampire Diaries returned to a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating and a 2.3 rating with women 18-34.
Let’s also remember that Vampire Diaries was pre-empted in Chicago (the show aired at 10:30pm because of the mayoral debates) and Baltimore (the show will air on Saturday, Jan. 29th at 8pm) last night.
Also, there will be an encore of The Descent played TONIGHT at 8/7c. So why not tune in again?
UPDATE: From CW press release –
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES had its best performance in adults 18-34 (1.8/5) and women 18-34 (2.3/7) since 11/11/10 last night. The show ranked #2 for the hour in women 18-34 (2.3/7).
Compared to its last original episode on 12/9/10, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES was up 4% in total viewers (3.3M), up 23% in adults 18-49 (1.6/4) and up 13% in adults 18-34 (1.8/5).
Canadian fans: watch the episode the CTV website or MuchMusic.
UK viewers can watch The Descent on Tuesday, February 1st on ITV2.

The ratings are in for By the Light of the Moon with the episode drawing in an average of 3.1 million viewers. From TV by the Numbers:
The CW’s The Vampire Diaries was down a tenth in the CW target women 18-34 ratings to a 2.1 rating. While I don’t keep track of women 18-34 ratings long term, the The Vampire Diaries’ 1.3 adults 18-49 rating was a season low.
And before anyone gets worried, those figures are still good, and the show is in no danger of being cancelled. ;)
Canadian fans: watch the episode the CTV website or MuchMusic.

Preliminary ratings for The Sacrifice suggest the episode brought in 3.7 million viewers last night, though those figures are expected to be adjusted down once the ratings for the NFL Network’s Eagles/Texans game are factored in. Who needs sport when you have this show to get your adrenaline pumping, right?

You guys hanging in there? We’re still not sure we’ve ever witnessed quite the reaction that Plan B seems to have ignited amongst fans. (And judging by the promo for next week…well, batten down the hatches, as it were.) Looks like 3.58 million viewers tuned in last night (and seriously, were you all on Twitter..?). Via TV By The Numbers:
Over on the CW The Vampire Diaries scored a 2.4 rating with women 18-34 and Nikita gave almost half of it with a 1.3 W18-34 rating, though that was on par with its last original. The Vampire Diaries matched season highs with total viewers, adults 18-34 and adults 18-49.

Wanna know what this show is doing right? Good read, via The TV Addict: Lessons other Showrunners can learn from the awesomeness that is THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.
Seriously. How Williamson, Plec and the entire writing staff of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES manage to do it on a weekly basis we’ll never know. But if there was a Guinness Book of World Record for string of jaw-dropping cliffhangers, surely THE VAMPIRE DIARIES would be more than deserving of it. So much so that that we can’t recall an ending to an episode that didn’t have us furiously calculating the exact number of hours, minutes and seconds until the next one.
