Ba-boom! The first part of Season 3 has come to a close, my friends, and it wouldn’t be The Vampire Diaries if it didn’t leave us hanging with a million questions, theories, and relationship statuses to debate.

AOL TV brings us this (slightly spoilery) interview with Michael Trevino, where he talks about tonight’s episode (Homecoming, EP309) and about where things stand with Tyler right now, as well as what might be coming up for him in the future.
We’ve seen Tyler return to his douchebag Season 1 default again. Are you enjoying playing that? He seems to be way less angst-y now that he’s a hybrid.
Joseph:
I mean, I’m personally having fun with it because it’s a whole new level and arc that I can play around with and have fun. But also, I think there was a lot of responsibility in becoming the first successful hybrid, so I think it’s pretty cool to have a different supernatural ability and for me to personally just be able to act that out. It’s fun, why not?

Speaking of acting out and having fun, Joseph Morgan answered some questions for The Insider about training for Immortals, the question of which project is bloodier, and he gives a few hints about tonight’s episode. He also talks a little bit about the fine line he walks playing Klaus as both villainous and sympathetic
Insider: So you think tonight will bring people back to Klaus’ side?
Joseph: Yes, I think that’s fair to say. It’s such a fine line when you’re writing for a villain: they have to bring some humanity and sympathy to the character, so people understand him, but you don’t want to turn him good. I think Julie [Plec] and Kevin [Williamson, creators] are on the same page with me there. It’s difficult to walk that tightrope of making people care about him, but also have him be your villain. I really think they do a wonderful job of that. So many people on Twitter are confused by their own feelings about the character – they hate to love him — and that’s so exciting to me. And a huge compliment.

COMPLETE SONGLIST FOR HOMECOMING (EP309)
SHORT PROMO FOR THE NEW DEAL (EP310)
EXTENDED PROMO FOR THE NEW DEAL (EP310)
NOTE FROM THE SITERUNNERS:
First off, thanks so much to everyone for their patience today and tonight. The site has been mostly off-line all day and MAN did you let us know it on Twitter. And as stressful as that was, we thank you very much for caring so much about Vampire-Diaries.net, especially on Thursday night where we observe tradition. It’s humbling to know that we’re a go-to source for so many people. You both humble and amaze us. So THANK YOU.
That being said – was there a worse night for this to happen? Probably not. We are playing catch-up with the blog now and hope to have all the regular info up by the time the West coast airing ends. Our sincere hope is that everything is back to normal by tomorrow morning. If you experience some site wonkiness, please be patient and know we’re on it.
Now, how about that episode?
Okay guys, Reaction post and poll! We’ll pretty it up ASAP, but now we want it up so you can vote in the poll and share your thoughts.

Entertainment Weekly caught up with Julie Plec and Michael Trevino to discuss Homecoming (EP309), tonight’s mid-season finale of The Vampire Diaries. Julie gives a heads up on who will not be in tonight’s episode (stay strong, Jeremy and Alaric fans) and Stefan’s still-ambiguous motivations, while Michael teases Tyler’s complicated loyalty to Klaus and how that will affect his relationship with Caroline. Oh, and if you’re worried about cliffhangers?
In general, tonight’s episode is more about setting the stage for the show’s January return than leaving us with cliffhangers. “Rather than makin’ you suffer with ‘Oh god, what’s gonna happen?’, it’s more like, ‘Hey, this is the next part of the roller coaster that you’re about to jump on,’” Plec says. “So it will very much get the audience talking about the next chapter.”

And The Futon Critic‘s Jim Halterman chats with Vampire Diaries Executive Producer Julie Plec about the ongoing storylines of Season 3, closing out “the ghost chapter,” Stefan/Elena/Damon, Bonnie and Jeremy, Tyler, Alaric, the Originals, and standards for a Vampire Diaries villain.
Julie Plec: The definition of villain for us has always been someone who is willing to do the most extreme things in the most extreme circumstances without care for what it does to other people. But always driven by their own particular need, want or desire. Nobody is just evil for the sake of being evil and some of the fun that we like to be able to have on the show is exploring why people do what they do and act like who they act like.
