The final batch of Tubey Awards nominations are up, and the Vampire Diaries is in a bunch of new categories. The show is up for Best & Worst New Show (we sincerely hope no one here is voting for it in the Worst category, though – that’s one category we’re just fine with losing), Best Musical Moment (Damon and Elena dancing in Miss Mystic Falls), Best Season Finale, Best Single Episode-Drama (Founder’s Day) and Best Pop Culture Reference (Damon on Twilight in Family Ties). Now all you need to do is head on over to the Television Without Pity website and VOTE. Just not for that Worst New Show category. ;)

The Vampire Diaries TV Series

Tonight at 8/7c: Tune in to the CW for an encore airing of Family Ties (EP04), where men are thick-headed and catty and women are watching each others’ backs (um, literally). We don’t care how fuzzy wuzzy Damon has become in recent episodes (which is to say – not very, all things considered) – we still live in hope that Caroline Forbes will one day have a reckoning when it comes to a certain Salvatore. Stay tuned for the next episode of Moonlight at 9/8c.

Miss a post? Catch up:

It’s hard to believe the season one finale is only five weeks away. Doesn’t seem that long ago that there was a write-up in Variety, announcing that a Vampire Diaries pilot had been ordered. Take a walk down memory lane with a slew of official episode stills and behind the scenes photos from the first 10 episodes of The Vampire Diaries. We teamed up with Vampire Diaries Web to bring you over 400 new images. Click on a header to see that particular folder in the Gallery. Enjoy!

Special note: For the true die-hards and trivia buffs…pay close attention to the Haunted stills and see if you notice something interesting in the scenes with Elena, Vicki, and Jeremy. Oh, and be sure to check out what “Elena” was writing in her diary in the Pilot.

Vampire Diaries Founders Council DocumentA long time ago – back in episode 4, “Family Ties” – there was a Vampire Diaries set piece featured that had Vee and I pretty excited. It was the document that the Founders Council all signed upon the attendance of the first Founders party, and our bookish fan selves were delighted to see shout-outs to Honoria Fell and Mayor Jacob Lockwood (aka Smallwood, though interestingly Elena reads out “Benjamin Lockwood” in the episode) on there. We’ve since discovered that the document also includes the signatures of Giuseppe Salvatore and Thomas Keeping Fell, which fills us with even more glee.

Maren Nicholas is the talented calligraphy artist who was asked to create both the Founders Council document and the placards that were used for displaying other items in the collection of family heirlooms. She was kind enough to take some time out to answer some questions for us, and to provide us with some images of the document so that everyone can get a closer look at the signatures and appreciate the detail and work that went into the project. Read on to find out about how the document was made, and click on the thumbnails to view the larger images.

How did you get into calligraphy?

I started doing calligraphy when I was 13 years old and had my first paying job at the age of 14. I was an Art major (among other things…) in college at an all-women’s college where I did a fair amount of calligraphy for formal dinners, teas, etc. My most recent job before staying home when my children were born was at Party City where I sold wedding invitations. When asked if I knew anyone who did calligraphy, I told them I did which is where I got the idea to start my calligraphy business. I have now been doing this as a professional business for about 8 years.

Jeremy and Vicki in the Vampire DiariesNight three of the CW’s Vampire Diaries marathon begins soon, and we hope you’re all planning on tuning in. Last night saw an average of 1.3 million viewers for “Friday Night Bites” and “Family Ties”. Both of tonight’s episodes rank up there as pretty popular as secrets are revealed, shocking things happen, and we get to see Katherine for the first time in all her superior glory in a lush-looking flashback.

Here’s the combined episode reaction post for “You’re Undead to Me” and (you’ll be pleased to know you don’t have to wait a whole week for this one) “Lost Girls”. You can watch the trailers for the episodes, check out the stills, find out the title of that music track that caught your attention, and then discuss the episode over in the forums (though beware of spoilers!). And don’t forget to vote in the polls to let us know what you thought of the episodes.

Caroline in the Vampire DiariesNight two of the CW’s Vampire Diaries marathon, and we hope everyone is back for more. Last night’s viewing figures are in, with the “Pilot” episode attracting 1.6 million viewers and “Night of the Comet” holding at 1.4 million viewers. Can we beat those figures tonight?

Anyhow, here’s the combined episode reaction post for “Friday Night Bites” (one of Julie Plec’s favourites, we hear) and “Family Ties” (we miss Caroline’s scarves, we really do). You can watch the trailers for the episodes, check out the stills, find out the title of that music track that caught your attention, and then discuss the episode over in the forums (though beware of spoilers!). And don’t forget to vote in the polls to let us know what you thought of the episodes.

Stefan and Elena in Family TiesLast night’s encore of “Family Ties” drew in a respectable 1 million viewers, and the DVR ratings are also in for “History Repeating”, giving the episode an extra juicy 1.6 million viewers. Courtesy of the Futon Critic:

Freshman smash THE VAMPIRE DIARIES only gets bigger once all DVR playback is included, gaining 57% in women 18-34 (3.82rtg v. 2.43rtg), 51% in adults 18-34 (2.68rtg v. 1.77rtg) and 57% in women 18-49 (3.09tg v. 1.97rtg).

There’s a casting call out for a new recurring character by the name of ‘Lucy’. We know a lot of you don’t like to be spoiled too much about upcoming characters, so if you want to know more, highlight the text below (you can also head over to the Spoiler Zone on the forums, where people will post more information when they find it).

[LUCY BENNETT] Early 20′s.. HOT African-American, Bonnie’s cousin from out of town. A Virginia Tech college student that is wicked smart and is happy to let you know it. At first, she comes across as crass and in-your-face but look deeper and you’ll see a wounded soul who’s never really belonged. She is very guarded and mysterious and is not above using her looks to her advantage. Men beware. GUEST STAR, RECURRING

Thanks to Candice from BettyConfidential.com for letting us know about their interview with Zach Roerig.

When Matt finds out Vicki’s [fate], is he going to go after Damon and Stefan?
Matt’s definitely going to seek redemption. I’m not sure he’s going to know what direction to go in, but he won’t stop till he figures it out. It may not mean staking a vampire in the heart, but he’ll do something. I’m just waiting to see what’s in store for the rest of the series. It started out focusing on Elena, Damon and Stefan, but Bonnie and her witchy ways are going to become a bigger part of the show; the town’s people who are trying to secretly hunt for vampires will be out in force; there are new characters popping up, so there’s a lot more to come. I’m just as excited as the viewers to see it unfold.

There’s also an interview with Katerina Graham from I Heart Heels. It’s all about style, baby.

IHH: Is Bonnie’s style ever anything you would wear on your own?
KG: We’re different to the extreme. Bonnie goes for the loafer, while I opt for the platform stiletto. But, I love Bonnie’s clothes and will even see something and pick it up in a store if I feel it reflects her. As an actor, it’s important to lose your ego and fall into the character, even if she’s different than you are style-wise.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesAnd the hiatus continues – but luckily there’s been some news to tide us over, and of course the CW continues its encore airings of The Vampire Diaries. And it’s Wednesday! (You’re Undead to Me airs tomorrow.) Tonight? Family Ties, where we learn that Bonnie can light candles with her mind, Tyler can’t dance, and Stefan can be downright diabolical when he puts his booze to it. (Red made the blog icon all special-like, just for me.) We also received our first insight into the founding families and the Council this ep and we’re still figuring all of that out. (Did we mention Brian Young, the co-writer of this ep, is now on Twitter? Follow him @young_brian.)

Refresh your memory tonight (and join the discussion in the forum):

And we resurrect the poll:
