The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesThanks to @CW_VampDiaries for the heads up! People’s Choice 2011 Nominee Selections are up and Vampire Diaries is listed in a few categories: Favorite TV Drama, Favorite TV Drama Actor (Ian Somerhalder), and Favorite SciFi/Fantasy Show.

So what does Nominee Selection mean? People’s Choice is asking the fans to vote and narrow the categories to a select number of nominees. So that means it’s up to voters to get their favorites into the respective categories. From the People’s Choice press release:

The top five nominees in each category will be announced on Nov. 9, 2010 at The London West Hollywood Hotel during the annual People’s Choice Awards press conference. PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS 2011 will be broadcast Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 (9:00-11:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Time for fandom to mobilize! The links below take you directly to the poll for that category. Also, if you don’t see Vampire Diaries or a cast member nominated in a category you think they should be nominated in (like, say, Favorite TV Obsession or Favorite TV Drama Actress), check “Other” and do a write-in vote!

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesThe film and television editor for Portait Magazine dropped us a line asking if we could help spread the word: They’re looking for a few writers who can cover features on The Vampires Diaries – show and cast. Those interested should contact Melissa at melissaleaman@hotmail.com and include a (non-fiction) writing sample. If you don’t have one handy, write up a 250 word description of a supporting character on The Vampire Diaries, as though you were introducing them to someone who has never seen the show.

UPDATE: Melissa in the comments – “Any age can write for the site. We’ve had writers as young as 13 and as old as 27 right now. Age is definitely not an issue. That’s part of the point of Portrait, we want to give people a chance to gain some experience as writers no matter what age.”

Have fun and good luck!

Elena Gilbert in A Few Good MenWilliam Keck over at TV Guide Magazine is reporting that there’s a bit of interactive fan fun to be had during this week’s episode of the Vampire Diaries. At some point during “A Few Good Men”, Elena will be seen dialling a number. Call that number, and you’ll hear a special teaser message and be able to leave a message of your own. Though remember to get the bill payer’s permission before you go wild trying it out – standard long-distance call fees apply, and you really don’t want to be on the receiving end of the parental lashout over a huge phone bill. I speak from experience. O_O

Fans can also participate in a couple of contests that various sites are holding in order to be in with a chance of winning some Vampire Diaries goodies. JSKY readers can phone in on the 25th to win signed posters, t-shirts and bumper stickers. They’ll post the number up on the night, so check back at JSYK for details. Yahoo! TV are giving fans a chance to win similar prizes in a Twitter giveaway (you’ll need to be following @YahooTV), and don’t forget that there’s an ongoing contest over at the official Vampire Diaries book website to win books and t-shirts.

Speaking of contests, congrats to the winner of our final ‘hiatuses suck’ Twitter giveaway, @AlyseKeat! Only two days left until the new episode now, so no more contests for the moment. Keep an eye out, though, as we’ll certainly have more in the future.

FEARNet’s Spider talked to fans of the Vampire Diaries before the main event at PaleyFest. Hilarity ensues as fans explain not only why they like the show, but also try to explain the premise and characters to the uninitiated Spider.

Damon, Stefan and ElenaFirst of all, today (well, technically tomorrow, but whatever) marks the one month countdown to the Vampire Diaries premiere, which airs on September 10th on the CW. We’ve added a little countdown to the sidebar on the right for a bit of fun.

People.com has posted “Five Things to Know About TV’s Hottest New Vampire“, a short-but-sweet article about Paul Wesley in which acting, pointy teeth, and the show are talked about. We have to give a shout out to his little sisters for reading the books – we hope they liked them! Also, we can guarantee that his family aren’t his only fans.

Korbi Ghosh from Zap2it caught up with Ian Somerhalder for a brief chat. That link could be considered spoilery if you have any idea about the cast and characters (or have seen the pilot), but from a non-spoilery perspective it’s starting to look like Damon may well be set to steadily work his way through the population of Mystic Falls, leaving quite a few disheveled ladies in his wake.

There’s an audio snippet of Kevin Williamson at the TCA panel over on Hollywood Outbreak. It’s a section we’ve posted about in text format before, in which KW explains that the Vampire Diaries isn’t just a teen show but more of a small town show that will develop the mythology in the books.

In set news, it looks like the body count starts here. Michael Trevino teased followers on Twitter with a picture of the Mystic Falls coroner’s van. Given the potential death toll (dare we say it could give Sunnydale a run for its money?), we have to wonder if they’ll be needing to purchase another van for the Mystic Falls coroner’s office before the season ends?

GMMR and Ducky talk about the Vampire Diaries in their TV Talk podcast, briefly discussing the fact that they enjoyed the pilot (the term ‘guilty pleasure’ crops up) and the ‘swoonworthy’ nature of Paul Wesley. They’re planning on discussing it in more depth in their Fall TV podcast. The Vampire Diaries discussion starts at the 32:30 mark for those who want to skip ahead to it.

The Television Without Pity Tubey Awards are underway, and the Vampire Diaries TV series is up for ‘Most Anticipated New Show of the 2009-10 Season’. Go and cast your votes in the polls. You can find the TVD poll under the ’9-10′ tab.

Sally from Australia sent us an email to say that Freeview channel GO! – who will be airing the Vampire Diaries in Australia later this year (though still no specific dates) – has now launched, and they’re airing adverts for the series on a pretty regular basis.

Vampire Diaries fans Rachel and Andrea have been busy channeling their love for the series creatively by making some awesome t-shirts. Do we have any other fans out there with a similar crafty flair?

Caption Competition Update:

We’d just like to remind you all that you have until Friday to enter our caption competition to win some Vampire Diaries Comic Con goodies. Judging from some of the entries, we get the impression we may not have been clear enough with what the caption competition is, so we’ve updated the post to explain the concept some more and to provide an example of a caption for you.

Because some people might not have understood what we were asking for in this contest we’ve decided that participants are welcome to change their caption to something else if they’ve already submitted one to us. No worries if you’re happy with what you submitted, but we feel it’s only fair to give people the option.

The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening & The StruggleSo, so cool to see authors coming out as Vampire Diaries (and L.J. Smith) fans this week. (Hi, Melissa Marr!) Sarah Rees Brennan, author of The Demon’s Lexicon (which has received ringing endorsements from such writers as Holly Black, Scott Westerfield, and Cassandra Clare), posted a funny summary of The Vampire Diaries on her LJ this morning that we had to share. Thanks to Sarah for being game – we hope she decides to write those “affectionate parodies” of the TV episodes when they start airing. SPOILERS AHOY.
