In just over a week, Hub Productions’ Vampire Diaries fan event launches in Australia, featuring appearances from Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, and Michael Trevino. Want to help them hit the stage with style?
Hub’s Vampire Diaries video contest ends this Saturday, June 26th, at 11:59 p.m. AUSTRALIAN time. (If you’re unsure when that is in your time zone, check out the World Clock.) This is your last chance to splice together a kick ass introduction for each of these very special guests. All of the information you need to enter is on Hub’s website.
Hub and Vampire-Diaries.net have some very cool things in store for the four winners, with special thanks going out to KRMA Clothing, Smart Pop Books, Crissy Calhoun and ECW Press, and a bevy of bands that have been featured on Vampire Diaries – Stateless, Barcelona, Plumb, White Lies, and Mads Langer (with additional thanks to Copenhagen Records and Universal Music Group). You can read more about the prizes on Hub’s site and on our sponsors page.
Have fun, good luck, and ROLL ON, AUSTRALIA!

We hope the fanvidders in the house are hard at work on their entries for Hub Productions’ Vampire Diaries video contest. And, in honor of the greatness that is Australia, we’re excited to announce another addition to the Vampire-Diaries.net prize packs that four lucky winners will be clutching to their bosoms: The fabulous KRMA – Kangaroos Roam Mainland Australia, founded by Australian designer Nicholas Bowes – is sweetening the deal with their kick ass Rocky Fang t-shirt. You guys know KRMA best as the label behind Elena’s and Nina’s leather jackets, so this is a cool slice of fashion, yeah? They’re amazing, so make sure to visit the KRMA website and follow them on Twitter – @krmaclothing – and send ‘em a thank you tweet. While you’re at it, follow our other prize pack contributors too: @smartpopbooks, @ecwpress, @crissycalhoun, and @madslanger.
Speaking of fandom, Jessica and Brannan of Vampire Stalkers are compiling scrapbooks for the Vampire Diaries cast and they want your help. If you’ve had a personal or meaningful experience with any of the TVD cast, why not share it with the ladies of Vampire Stalkers and be part of the project? Even if you’ve yet to meet a cast member, they’re holding a contest for cover art, so you can still participate. They’ve extended the deadline to JULY 1st, so you have a few weeks! Head on over to Vampire Stalkers to read about it in more detail.

To kick up anticipation for their big Vampire Diaries event on July 3rd and 4th, Hub Productions is holding a special fan competition – and it’s open to everyone in the world, not just Australians! We’ll let Hub fill you in:
As many of you know we use a short video to introduce each of our guests when they come out on stage. This time, we are handing over creative responsibility to you guys! Your mission is to create a vid, no longer than 2 and a half minutes in length, that introduces either Nina Dobrev, Paul Welsey, Ian Somerhalder or our fourth guest once they are announced.
Now, there’s a hefty list of guidelines/rules for the competition, and you need to read them thoroughly before going in, video editing programs blazin’. Done that? Good. Let’s get to the good stuff.
Again, the competition is open to everyone in the world, regardless of whether you’re attending the Sydney and Melbourne fan events. Anyone and everyone can enter. The contest deadline is JUNE 26th!
Second, five videos for each guest (that’s 20 fanvids total, natch) will be played throughout both days of the event. One video for each guest will be chosen as the ultimate winners by the Hub staff. Those four winners will not only have their video play as an introduction for their very special guest’s Q&A session, but that guest will receive a copy of their respective winner’s video on disc. That’s kind of amazing, right?
If you’re a winner and you’re actually at the event, you will also receive an autograph from a Vampire Diaries guest. If you’re not at the event, don’t worry – Vampire-Diaries.net will hook you up a special prize pack (winners attending will get this too, in addition to their autograph):
- Vampire Diaries “Love Sucks” (22″ x 34″) poster
- Mad Langer’s 2009 self-titled album featuring “Beauty of the Dark” (as played on Vampire Diaries), courtesy of Mads Langer and Copenhagen Records
- KRMA Rocky Fang t-shirt, courtesy of native Australian Nicholas Bowes and KRMA Clothing (Nina wears KRMA’s leather jackets/clothing on the show and in real life, and is collaborating with Bowes.)
- Love You to Death: The Unofficial Companion to The Vampire Diaries by Crissy Calhoun (out September 2010), courtesy of ECW Press
- A Visitors Guide to Mystic Falls: Your Favorite Authors on The Vampire Diaries, edited by Red & Vee of Vampire-Diaries.net (out October 2010), courtesy of Smart Pop Books
We’re working on some additional goodies for the packs, so keep an eye on V-D.net and Hub’s website to see what else you can win by whipping up a fantastic fanvid for the object of your TVD affections. In the meantime, check out all of the entries so far at Hub. Have a blast and good luck!

We don’t normally post fan work on the main blog (we have enough of a job keeping up with official news, after all), but sometimes something crops up that is exceptionally awesome or interesting that we feel we have to share. In this case, some professional-looking fanmade opening credits for the Vampire Diaries, courtesy of VampireDiaries.it.
Update: The track used in the video is Great Northern – “Houses”
When we tweeted about the video on Twitter, it actually sparked some interesting debate of opening credits vs. title card for the show. Given the nature of Twitter, it’s difficult to see if there was a winner either way (though it looked neck and neck to me), so we decided to put it to the poll. Vote, and feel free to tell us your reasons in the comments.

Blast Presents: New Moon has a feature on the Vampire Diaries with snippets from Nina, Paul, Ian and L.J. Smith (from her blog). Thanks to Kyra over at Media Blvd for the scans!.

We tweeted this yesterday, and it impressed quite a few people (including us!). @Sonylicious recorded the process of vampirising a picture of Nina Dobrev in Photoshop. It really is fascinating, and it’s amazing the skills that Vampire Diaries fans possess.
Finally, thanks to Jen for pointing us at some Australian publication dates for the Return Trilogy. The Australian Harper Collins website is listing January 2010 for the paperback version of Nightfall, and March 2010 for the paperback version of Shadow Souls. Nightfall has already been published in hardback, but there’s no mention at the moment of a hardback release for Shadow Souls.
