Those of you who have read Shadow Souls will know all about Bonnie’s opal ring. L.J. Smith has had such a ring made, and is going to be giving it away to one lucky Vampire Diaries fan.
Now you can win this version of Bonnie’s opal ring (see above). It’s made of 14 karat gold and 14 karat white gold, with one central opal and diamonds sprinkled around it. This is a gorgeous ring that sells for over $700—so pretty that I got one for myself! And if you didn’t win an autographed Shadow Souls book during the last contest–well, here’s your chance, because I’m offering ten (10) this time around as second prizes.
To find out more about the ring and how to enter the contest, head on over to L.J. Smith’s blog.
The lovely Lorraine over at the LJS Covers Resource has kindly passed on some more German book covers, a variation on the TV series-themed omnibus editions previously published.

Have we mentioned lately how much we love Lorraine over at the L.J. Smith Cover Resource? She’s been working her cover voodoo and has come up trumps with all kinds of Vampire Diaries book cover goodies for us.
First up, to your left you will see the UK cover for The Return: Midnight (click on the image to view a larger version). This is the first cover we’ve seen anywhere for Midnight, and I’ve got to admit to a little bit of pride that the UK got in there first. While we may have a cover, we’re still seeing a range of dates for the publication date, from July of this year to November next year. As soon as we have something concrete, we’ll get it up on the website for you.
We’ve also got some more covers for other books in the series – from reprints to brand new publications in the UK, France, Germany and Japan. Read on to view all the new covers…

MTV’s Hollywood Crush has an ever-so-rare chat with Steven R. McQueen about what’s in store for Jeremy on upcoming episodes of The Vampire Diaries. He has wonderful things to say about Malese Jow, who will be guest starring as Anna (J’s potential love interest?), calling her “very talented and very sweet.”
And we know from reading your comments in the blog and posts in the forum that what Damon did to Jeremy is a huge, HUGE point of interest, and you’ll be happy to know Steven plays a bit coy on that front (spoilery!):
It was way back in 2009, but you may recall that earlier in the season, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) pulled his special vampire brainwash-y powers out to erase Jeremy’s memory of his girlfriend Vicki’s death. The catch is, it’s not exactly clear what Damon did. “That’s something that’s going to unfold itself a little later in the series,” Steven said. “[Damon] did erase my pain and my grief and such, but I’m not sure what I can reveal of just how much he shut out of my memory — and if he put anything in there.” (Dun Dun Dun… )
And @LilMissX is being very, very good to Vampire Diaries fans in anticipation of the show’s return this Thursday. Check out our first look at Mia Kirshner as Isobel, Alaric’s wife, in this still (we know Isobel is set to debut in Bloodlines, but we’re not 100% positive that’s what the still is from) with Matt Davis (Alaric):

UPDATE: Thanks to KryptonSite, we now know the Alaric/Isobel still is from an upcoming episode called A Few Good Men.
According to this ITV2 press release, it looks like UKers can look forward to a Tuesday, February 2nd debut for The Vampire Diaries. And it gets better: The channel will be kicking off with a 9-11 p.m. double header of the pilot and Night of the Comet. Smart move, we say.
Speaking of air dates: The Vampire Diaries kicks off in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria tomorrow night! Though I suppose it’s already January 20th in your neck of the woods, so… Enjoy the show!
With all of the TVD cast appearances in magazines lately, we thought you might want to check out Katerina Graham pontificating on the particulars of her beauty bag in this Seventeen video, and Nina Dobrev Fan has nice, watermark-free scans from Nina’s very pink fashion spread in SELF.

Nina Dobrev has been confirmed as the first member of the Vampire Diaries team to be attending the Insurgence: Bloodlines convention in the UK. The con takes place on the 19-21 March and is for the Vampire Diaries along with two more of the CW’s shows, Supernatural and Smallville. No news yet on other members of the cast and crew attending, but we’ll post as soon as we hear anything.

Most of us had already worked out that this was a given due to threads in the story that need tying up, but we’ve got official information now. Fancast have heard from Julie Plec that Bianca Lawson will be returning as Emily Bennett in flashbacks during episode 13, “Children of the Damned”. The episode in question will be airing on February 4.
Thanks to Max for getting in touch to update us on the Vampire Diaries airing in Germany. We’ve previously mentioned that the series premieres in Germany on January 20 on the ProSieben channel, but we’ve been told that Austria and Switzerland also get the ProSieben channel and will be getting the series at the same time as Germany. As we understand it, the series has been dubbed into German, and if you’re curious about what Elena, Stefan and Damon sound like, you can watch a trailer for it below.
And finally, a book curiosity. We have no idea what it’s about, but it certainly piqued our interest. @Guinevere09 was poking around on the Harper Teen website and found… ‘Stefan’s Diaries‘. Given that Stefan doesn’t keep diaries in the books (though you never know, he might have one hidden in his sock drawer), we’re wondering if this is possibly some kind of TV series tie-in. Whatever it’s about, it’s due for release at the end of June and we’ll certainly be keeping an eye on it.

A bunch of shiny, new book covers for you all to peruse. Props to the UK publishers for a bloody feather on their Nightfall cover, which is actually on-topic, and much better than the apple (of which we shall not speak). The paperback version is due out in the UK on March 4, 2010.
Germany is putting out an omnibus edition of The Awakening and The Struggle (due October, 2010), and fans can look forward to Nightfall (with a cover featuring someone who looks more like Faye from the Secret Circle than anyone from the Vampire Diaries) in May, 2010. And finally, the French publishers have won our hearts by actually giving Damon his black eyes on their cover. Fans in France can look forward to seeing Nightfall published on February 3, 2010.

There’s a new “TV to Talk About” promo video on the CW’s YouTube channel, featuring clips from the Vampire Diaries. Seen ‘em all before, but it gives a little thrill of excitement to see the clips pop up in the montage.
Media Life Magazine has an interesting article on what the success of Vampire Diaries means for the CW.
“The Vampire Diaries” has been a bright spot for the CW this season. What can the network learn from the show in attempting to develop new programs (beyond the fact that hey, vampires are hot)?
“Vampire Diaries” is actually a relatively well-produced series. It has a solid, compelling story and characters viewers care about.
Look back at the history of WB/UPN–shows like “Buffy,” “Gilmore Girls” and “Dawson’s Creek” were heavy hitters. These were shows with unknowns, but they were beloved by the viewers. It ultimately comes down to story and character.
Sorry, Canadian fans, but CTV have confirmed that they won’t be showing the Vampire Diaries marathon when it’s aired in the USA from December 14th. They will, however, be showing some reruns, so keep an eye on your local listings for further information.
We’ve got some more international air dates for the Vampire Diaries TV series. Fans in the Netherlands should expect to see the show in early 2010 on channel NET 5. Germany will be airing the show starting on January 20th at 9pm on the ProSieben channel (short trailer here). South Africa gets the show in February, 2010 on the VUZU channel (trailer here) – thanks for the info, Johanna!
Finally, a reminder that Zach Roerig will be appearing on VRO tonight at 9pm ET. You can listen to the interview over at BlogTalkRadio when it airs. Update: Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts the interview with Zach has had to be rescheduled. We’ll let you know what the new date is when it’s been arranged.

At last, we have some book news to report! We know, we were as shocked (and pleased!) as you are. ;) The L.J. Smith book cover goddess, Lorraine, has updated her LJS Cover Resource website with a whole host of new covers (which are worth a look at if you’re fans of L.J. Smith’s books in general, not just the Vampire Diaries). We’re reposting the Vampire Diaries ones here with her kind permission, along with some more publication information.
First up, the USA cover for The Return: Shadow Souls with Damon on the front. We’ve seen the textless version of this cover before, but this is the first we’ve seen of the cover complete with title. As far as we’re aware, publication is still set for February 9, 2010.

It transpires that The Return: Nightfall is actually being published in two parts in both Italy (below, left) and Poland (below, right). The second part was published in Poland in July, and Italy can expect to see it at some time in November.

Finally, Germany seems to have slipped in a set of original series reprints under the radar. As far as we can tell from the Amazon.de listing they’re available now and look to be a bundle deal.

Update: We’d also like to remind everyone that you have until August 18th to enter the contest to win all of the Vampire Diaries books over on the official website. Open to residents of the USA only, be sure to read the rules before entering.
