Terron Moore of Ology sat down with Ian Somerhalder on a recent set visit and got his take on his conservation work as well as Damon and Elena’s future. On his inspiration for becoming an environmental activist:
“Just being from a really delicate ecosystem—I’m from the Gulf Coast in Louisiana—so it’s literally one of the most delicate ecosystems in the world. It’s so unique and amazing. 45% of all the wetlands in America are in Louisiana where I grew up. If we lose those, we’re screwed. Which we pretty much did, after BP. And that feeling of helplessness… I decided that no one should ever feel that way.”
And whether he thinks Damon should be with Elena:
“People always talk about this Damon and Elena relationship, and I just can’t see that happening. I mean, he is pretty enticing, and suave, and he’s charming. But he’s a dick. He really is.”

We’ve all been keeping a close eye on Mystic Falls’ new doctor, and Starry Constellation Magazine has some inside scoop from Torrey DeVitto about why she loves her character, sharing a set with Paul Wesley, Twitter, and her charity work. She also answers a couple questions about Pretty Little Liars, so fans of both shows are in luck!
Q. Why were you drawn in to playing Meredith on “The Vampire Diaries?” What about her made you want to portray this character?
A. Just getting to be on the show alone was a draw enough, but as I have gotten to know this character more, I have just really start to love her more and more. She’s smart, sharp, strong and straight forward. I love getting to portray females that have a backbone.

Now is the time for TVD fandom to rally and do what it does best: Support a worthy cause. ALL proceeds from the auction go to helping Thomas Starr King Middle School continue its mission of providing a quality education for its students. Last week, a long-awaited (and much-beloved) book character finally made her TV series debut and Zap2It has a thorough and excellent interview with Vampire Diaries newcomer Torrey DeVitto, aka Dr. Meredith Fell. While Torrey cautions that there will be inevitable differences between book!Meredith and TV!Meredith, she has read the Vampire Diaries books and understands why her arrival is kind of a big deal.
Good news, Meredith fans — your favorite is in good hands, as DeVitto is, herself, a fan of the novels. “Well, when the pilot came around, I picked up the series and actually read the entire series without stopping,” she tells us. “I had just finished the ‘Twilight’ books and was so smitten with Edward, so I saw that this was vampires and I was like, ‘Great! I’ll read all of them!’”
That said, of course, she’s intentionally creating some distance between the book character and the TV writers’ reinterpretation. “I remember Meredith, but I don’t remember her completely and perfectly,” she says. “She’s very different on the show, so I didn’t really go back into the books and re-read, because I didn’t want to get too many conflicting ideas. I thought that was so cool to come on and not only be a part of the show, but also, I’m honored to be a part of something that the book’s fans are going to recognize and hopefully appreciate.”
Torrey also reflects on Dr. Fell’s involvement with Alaric “Has Bourbon, Will Mourn” Saltzman and his less-than-rosy love life (hint: his love interests turn into vampires and die), the potentially tense interaction between Meredith and Damon (YAY), coming to The Vampire Diaries three seasons in after being part of the off-screen TVD family, and her dedication to raising awareness about hospice care and Global Roots (alongside Paul Wesley). We also can’t help but wonder if the good doctor will be the one to finally restore respect for Fells amongst the Founding Families…and stuff.

Nina Dobrev has a lot of practice not answering direct questions when it comes to The Vampire Diaries, but she does give a few hints about an upcoming scene in this interview from Hollywire. She also gives some props to castmate Kat Graham for her work on The Ripple Effect event, and talks about her own experiences visiting Africa.
Ian Somerhalder was his usual eloquent self at the event, talking about the need for clean water and his own thoughts about working on projects like these.
As well as his favorite scene he’s shot so far this season (hint: it hasn’t aired yet):
Arielle Kebbel also took a few moments to talk on the red carpet, you can watch the video of her talking with Mingle Media TV on YouTube.
