Calling all Vampire Diaries fans! The Gulf oil spill is something that has had a tragic impact on everyone in one way or another. Those fine ladies over at Vampire Support and Vampire Stalkers want to hear about your thoughts on the disaster in the form of an essay, and the winning essay writer will receive their choice of a vampire support t-shirt and a feature on the aforementioned websites. In their own words:

We are looking for someone to write a short essay on their feelings about the oil spill in the gulf. Although a lot of us don’t live on the coast, the effect of this has gone worldwide. Vampire Support has shown us we can all make a difference. In your words, tell us what YOU think can be done to help the situation in the gulf and to make a permanent change for the future. Give us your ideas along with your experiences in how this has affected you or someone you know personally. Don’t hold back, we really want to hear how you feel!

The contest is open until noon, September 3rd and, yes, this one is open to international fans, too. :) Head over to the Vampire Stalkers website for more details and instructions for submitting your entry.

A fandom united can accomplish amazing things, and Vampire Support is hoping to not only rally Vampire Diaries fans, but vampire fans across many fandoms, in raising money for the National Wildlife Federation. The NWF is one of many organizations working to provide Gulf oil spill relief and Vampire Support has launched its first online auction of vampire merchandise to help raise much-needed funds.

Some of the items up for bid: autographed photos of Michael Trevino and Charley Bewley (Twilight), autographed unofficial companions/guides to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, True Bood, and Vampire Diaries, a slew of Vampire Diaries merch (including t-shirts and limited edition bags), and a Vampire Diaries poster autographed by Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder.

IMG DESCMany of you are already familiar with Vampire Support, a vampire fandom project to raise awareness about the Gulf oil spill, run by Vampire Diaries vlogger Chloe and The VRO‘s Amber. They have an amazing opportunity to gain funding for their fundraising endeavors through Pepsi’s Do Good for the Gulf program.

The Pepsi Refresh Project allows the public to submit their ideas that will better the world, and they have a category specifically for the Gulf oil spill. Vampire Support has submitted their cause – vampire fandom-themed auctions to raise awareness and funds for the Gulf region – for the $5,000 grant level (designed to “help get good ideas off the ground”) and they need YOUR help. The ideas most voted for by the public (again, YOU) will be awarded the grant.

What you can do to help them out (voting ends on August 31st!):

As of right now, Vampire Support is in 11th place; Pepsi awards up to 10 $5,000 grants a month. Again, VOTING ENDS AUGUST 31st. Let’s do some good, fandom.

To learn more about Vampire Support, check out their website. You can also follow them on Twitter: @VampireSupport.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesAs we mentioned last week, Zap2It‘s Carina MacKenzie was on the Vampire Diaries set this week tweeting up a storm and dropping hints at the awesomeness that is to come in the Season 2 premiere. The bulk of her interviews won’t post until closer to September 9th (when the show returns), but she’s posted a brief preview from her video interview with Ian Somerhalder.

The subject isn’t Vampire Diaries, but the Gulf Oil Spill disaster. As many of you know, MacKenzie has interviewed Ian a few times about his efforts on the Gulf coast, and it just so happens that news of BP capping the leak broke while she was in Atlanta.

“I feel relieved,” he said. “I’ve felt physically sick about this for months now, literally, so even just a small amount of relief is a powerful feeling.”

READ THE INTERVIEW AND WATCH WHAT IAN HAS TO SAY OVER AT ZAP2IT.

Bid on lunch with Sara Canning & Zach Roerig in the Second Annual Do Something Online AuctionAt the end of May, Vampire Diaries co-stars Sara Canning and Zach Roerig participated in the Do Something Awards nominees event, but their involvement with the organization doesn’t stop there! Thanks to Jennifer at Charity Buzz for the heads up that Sara and Zach have put themselves up for auction. Okay, not literally (don’t get that excited) – but you can bid on a lunch with the pair as part of the the Second Annual Do Something Online Auction.

One lucky bidder will win:

Includes: lunch with Zach Roerig and Sara Canning from The Vampire Diaries. Valid for up to 4 people in Atlanta, GA. Transportation and accommodations NOT included. Winner is responsible for the payment of lunch. Based on a mutually agreeable time.

Bidding starts at $500 and the auction ends on August 18th. All proceeds benefit Do Something, an organization whose goal is “to inspire, support and celebrate a generation of doers: people who see the need to do something, believe in their ability to get it done, and then take action.”

Also, we have to wonder – which of Atlanta’s restaurants will be hosting the get-together? We all know that the city is a foodie haven.

First up, the important thing: You can still call 1-800-491-GULF and donate. You have until 2am ET. And there is a plethora of information over on CNN.com about the various ways you can still donate. The important thing to remember is that there will be an ongoing need for funds as the impact of the Gulf Oil Spill disaster continues to be felt by the people, wildife, and environment of the Gulf region. One telethon does not a solution make, though it’s a tremendous start. Tonight’s event raised over 1.3 million dollars.

Thanks to Accidental Sexiness for this handful of photos of Ian on tonight’s event panel, via Wire Image.
