TV Guide Magazine’s William Keck has a brief chat with Taylor Kinney about his role as Mason Lockwood, Tyler’s uncle, on Vampire Diaries. They also have the first official promo shot of this much-anticipated new character. Kinney discusses the effect Mason’s return will have on the various residents of Mystic Falls, particularly Tyler and a certain pair of vampire brothers, special effects, and more.
“Mason has learned to harness his rage and is going to serve as a mentor to Tyler,” says Taylor. “I’ve come to teach Tyler that there are choices he can make to control his destiny as a human…or otherwise.”

Tiya Sircar will guest star in the upcoming season of Vampire Diaries. From the press release:
Disney veteran Tiya Sircar (“The Suite Life on Deck,” “Hannah Montana”) has joined the cast of popular CW series “The Vampire Diaries” in a guest-starring role as Aimee Bradley, a high school student who becomes involved in the supernatural activities in Mystic Falls.
Wondering if Aimee Bradley has some sort of connection to the traumatized Amber Bradley, Stefan’s chewtoy in Miss Mystic Falls? Ms. Sircar makes her TVD debut in episode #203 and, as always, the role is possibly recurring.

EW’s Michael Ausiello has posted the news that the character of Vanessa Monroe in the Vampire Diaries has been cast, and will be played by Dexter’s Courtney Ford.
At Comic-Con last month, exec producer Kevin Williamson hinted that the character may be harboring a secret or two. “She’s not without her own intrigue,” he told me. “It’ll be a nice little part for someone. And it’s a part that could evolve into this massive storyline or we could gut her like a fish.”
We personally hope she doesn’t get gutted like a fish – more kick-ass female characters that survive, please! ;)

Michael Trevino teased earlier today that Vampire Diaries had found its Mason Lockwood – younger brother to Mayor Lockwood and uncle to Tyler – and, mercifully, we weren’t left hanging for too long. Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello broke the news this evening that former Trauma star Taylor Kinney will be joining the show as a recurring guest star, making his first appearance in the premiere episode of Season 2.

So what do you guys think? Excited about another Lockwood?

MTV caught up with Nina Dobrev at last night’s Young Hollywood Awards and she had some special insight into the filming of the Vampire Diaries season finale’s final act – so, you have been warned, MAJOR SPOILERS AHOY.

Teen Vogue has a brief Q&A with Sara Canning. She fields questions about the season finale, the age difference between her and her character, and period acting.
Though you’re one of the very few figures of parental authority on the show, you’re just 22. What’s it like playing the adult?
I thought it might be a stretch given that Jenna’s quite a few years older than me, but I’ve found her to be very relatable because she’s essentially growing up herself as I have in the past two years since finishing Vancouver Film School’s acting program. Plus, when I moved down to Atlanta, Nina Dobrev and I actually became roommates so she really has become like family to me!

The TV Chick has a stellar interview with recent Vampire Diaries guest star Mia Kirshner, aka Isobel. She discusses her time on the set, her working relationship with Nina, Ian Somerhalder, and Matt Davis, and has surprising insight into her memorable role.
Presuming she does come back, which I hope she does, what do you want to see from Isobel going forward?
I think I’d like her to go head-to-head with Katherine one day. I think that would be fantastic. I would like to see the full scope of her power. I think ultimately she wants to be in charge. So, how she’s going to do that I’m not sure. But yeah, I think I’d to see more of that. And I’d like to see more elements of her past and then the present day. Like where she was and what her influences are and why she is the way she is. And I’d like to see — for me, what was really important, which you don’t see that much in this episode — but something that I want in the character is the humanity. I think that’s what makes her even more seductive.

TV Guide Magazine has a brief conversation with guest star Mia Kirshner about what viewers can expect when Isobel waltzes into Mystic Falls during tonight’s episode of The Vampire Diaries. Executive producer Julie Plec also gives insight into the character’s motivations.
“Isobel resents it, but you can see that her human emotions haunt her,” says Kirshner. “She’s not the most stable mother, but her attitude toward her daughter turns out to be very surprising in the end.” We just hope it doesn’t suck for Elena.

Here comes trouble – and no, we’re not talking about the Vampire Diaries summer hiatus inching closer. Isobel – manipulative wife, wayward birth mother, all vampire, and played by guest star Mia Kirshner – gets an entire episode named after her tonight on the CW and we’re not sure that’s altogether promising for those hoping there will be sunshine and puppies (with cute, floppy ears). If this was real life, we’d be begging for someone to give Elena a break after the events of the past three weeks but, since this is television, we’re not expecting a smooth ride for any of our favorite characters. In fact we’re thinking it might be time for Alaric to upgrade to absinthe.
THIS IS THE LAST EPISODE BEFORE NEXT’S WEEK’S MAY 13th SEASON ONE FINALE!
REMINDER: Nina Dobrev will be on NYC’s PIX Morning News May 6th, 7:50am! And, West coasters/Mountain timers, you still have time to catch Nina on Jimmy Fallon, 12:35am/11:35pm!

The L.A. Times’ Carina MacKenzie talked with Melinda Clarke about her time on The Vampire Diaries, and she hints that tonight’s episode may leave a door open for a return to the show. She discusses why Kelly Donovan and the O.C.‘s Julie Cooper are very different, shooting in a harsh Atlanta winter, the producers’ strategy telling the Vampire Diaries story, and why she thinks the series has been so successful. (She touches on her role in the CW’s Nikita pilot, too.!)
Kelly had some very, very emotional scenes last week when she found out that her daughter’s body had been discovered. How’s she going to process her grief?
What’s great about “The Vampire Diaries” is what’s not said. Kevin and Julie give a lot of credit to the audience, letting viewers read between the lines. Let’s just say that based on Kelly’s track record, I wouldn’t expect her to get any mother of the year awards after Friday night. There’s a pretty intense thing that happens between her and Matt. These stories are a little bit of a tickle and a taste of what’s to come. I have no idea what will happen in the future, but for right now, we leave Kelly in a very, very satisfying place.
