There were only nine episodes to pick from (Homecoming, Ordinary People and The Reckoning took top honors), so we think it’s finally time to look back at the season as a whole. We’re now in the final stretch of season 3 with 4 episodes to go. Tonight Damon and Elena are heading off to Denver to check on Jeremy, the search is on for the item Alaric misplaced, and we also see the return of some more familiar faces.

ITV2 will be displaying the Twitter #TVDUK hashtag during the episode, and will also be reading out the best or funniest tweet using the hashtag over the end credits. Show-runner Julie Plec chatted with Entertainment Weekly about last week’s Vampire Diaries episode Heart of Darkness (EP319) – specifically about the most recent development in the Stefan/Elena/Damon triangle. She also has this to say about a certain sticky situation involving Rebekah and tomorrow night’s episode, Do Not Go Gentle (EP320):

[Julie Plec] doesn’t want to say too much, but she will tease this: ”That story line takes instantly a left turn right at the beginning of the episode. So everything everybody thinks they’re gonna see is actually different.

Previously on The Vampire Diaries, things were heating up in Denver between Damon and Elena, while Stefan tried to unleash Alaric’s inner madman back in Mystic Falls. Jeremy learned (again!) that having friends can be a dangerous business and Rebekah’s life got a whole lot more complicated.

All in all there was a lot going on in this episode, so here’s a whole crowd of recaps with which you can refresh your memory before Do Not Go Gentle (EP320) airs tomorrow night.

Now that was some enjoyable television. As the first episode of the final four, Heart of Darkness sets us up for the final stretch of season 3, pulling the various plots and characters together and pushing forward to what promises to be another epic finale.

Don’t Back Down Now: What I loved most about this episode — besides, you know, the wall action — was how beautifully the two main storylines resonated with each other: SPOILERS! CONTINUE READING “GIVE IN TO IT.”
