It’s hard to believe the season one finale is only five weeks away. Doesn’t seem that long ago that there was a write-up in Variety, announcing that a Vampire Diaries pilot had been ordered. Take a walk down memory lane with a slew of official episode stills and behind the scenes photos from the first 10 episodes of The Vampire Diaries. We teamed up with Vampire Diaries Web to bring you over 400 new images. Click on a header to see that particular folder in the Gallery. Enjoy!

Special note: For the true die-hards and trivia buffs…pay close attention to the Haunted stills and see if you notice something interesting in the scenes with Elena, Vicki, and Jeremy. Oh, and be sure to check out what “Elena” was writing in her diary in the Pilot.

Alaric in the Vampire DiariesIt’s the final night of the CW’s Vampire Diaries marathon, with eight episodes down, and just two more to go. Last night saw “Haunted” and “162 Candles” draw in 1.8 million viewers, doing better than an average new episode of Melrose Place. Tonight’s pair of episodes surpass all the preceding episodes on the awesome scale, so here’s to them gaining even more viewers. We’re just sad that danged cliffhanger that won’t be resolved until January 21, 2010.

Here’s the combined episode reaction post for “History Repeating” and “The Turning Point”. You can watch the trailers for the episodes, check out the stills, find out the title of that music track that caught your attention, and then discuss the episode over in the forums (though beware of spoilers!). And don’t forget to vote in the polls to let us know what you thought of the episodes.

Stefan and Elena in Family TiesLast night’s encore of “Family Ties” drew in a respectable 1 million viewers, and the DVR ratings are also in for “History Repeating”, giving the episode an extra juicy 1.6 million viewers. Courtesy of the Futon Critic:

Freshman smash THE VAMPIRE DIARIES only gets bigger once all DVR playback is included, gaining 57% in women 18-34 (3.82rtg v. 2.43rtg), 51% in adults 18-34 (2.68rtg v. 1.77rtg) and 57% in women 18-49 (3.09tg v. 1.97rtg).

There’s a casting call out for a new recurring character by the name of ‘Lucy’. We know a lot of you don’t like to be spoiled too much about upcoming characters, so if you want to know more, highlight the text below (you can also head over to the Spoiler Zone on the forums, where people will post more information when they find it).

[LUCY BENNETT] Early 20′s.. HOT African-American, Bonnie’s cousin from out of town. A Virginia Tech college student that is wicked smart and is happy to let you know it. At first, she comes across as crass and in-your-face but look deeper and you’ll see a wounded soul who’s never really belonged. She is very guarded and mysterious and is not above using her looks to her advantage. Men beware. GUEST STAR, RECURRING

Thanks to Candice from BettyConfidential.com for letting us know about their interview with Zach Roerig.

When Matt finds out Vicki’s [fate], is he going to go after Damon and Stefan?
Matt’s definitely going to seek redemption. I’m not sure he’s going to know what direction to go in, but he won’t stop till he figures it out. It may not mean staking a vampire in the heart, but he’ll do something. I’m just waiting to see what’s in store for the rest of the series. It started out focusing on Elena, Damon and Stefan, but Bonnie and her witchy ways are going to become a bigger part of the show; the town’s people who are trying to secretly hunt for vampires will be out in force; there are new characters popping up, so there’s a lot more to come. I’m just as excited as the viewers to see it unfold.

There’s also an interview with Katerina Graham from I Heart Heels. It’s all about style, baby.

IHH: Is Bonnie’s style ever anything you would wear on your own?
KG: We’re different to the extreme. Bonnie goes for the loafer, while I opt for the platform stiletto. But, I love Bonnie’s clothes and will even see something and pick it up in a store if I feel it reflects her. As an actor, it’s important to lose your ego and fall into the character, even if she’s different than you are style-wise.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesWe like lists, so we thought we’d highlight the songs Vampire-Diaries.net readers have downloaded the most in the last few months. Jason Walker’s “Down” (from the closing of Lost Girls) has been the overwhelming favorite, with Anberlin’s cover of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence” (Vicki and Damon dancing in Lost Girls) and Plumb’s “Cut” (Elena and Stefan’s love scene in The Turning Point) neck and neck in your affections.

You can see complete songlists for each Vampire Diaries episode on our Music in the Series page.

1. Jason Walker “Down” (Lost Girls)
2. Anberlin “Enjoy the Silence” (Lost Girls)
3. Plumb “Cut” (The Turning Point)
4. Sanders Bohlke “The Weight of Us” (Haunted)
5. Tyrone Wells “This Is Beautiful” (The Turning Point)
6. Bat For Lashes “Sleep Alone” (Haunted)
7. Barcelona “Come Back When You Can” (History Repeating)
8. Gary Go “Open Arms” (Haunted)
9. Five For Fighting “Chances” (The Turning Point)
10. Mike Sheridan & Mads Langer “Too Close” (162 Candles)

We still have a lot of readers asking about the first song used in The Turning Point‘s promo. If you have any insight, please drop a comment!

UPDATE: Thanks to the tipster who let us know the first track used in The Turning Point promo is “All I Ever Wanted” by Otto’s Daughter. (You can sample the entire track on Last.fm.)

Katherine and StefanDuring that dreadfully long hiatus week between the airing of “Lost Girls” and “Haunted” we posted a poll to find out which episode was your favourite at that point. “Lost Girls” was the overwhelming winner of that particular poll, beating the other episodes by over 1,000 votes. We’ve had four more episodes since then (and an even longer hiatus to somehow survive), and comments in the blog and forums seem to suggest you all think each episode has been better than the last. So, we figured we’d put that to the test. Is “Lost Girls” still your favourite episode? Or has a new episode that’s aired since won a place in your heart? Vote in the poll, and let us know what stands out for you most of all in the series so far – characters, scenes, music. Whatever you’ve found memorable, tell us in the comments.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesMovieline has just posted a fantastic conversation with Katerina Graham and Jasmine Guy that is a must-read for fans of The Vampire Diaries and fans of the real-life women. They each discuss their characters, the witches of Mystic Falls, their careers and influences, and what’s in store.

Is there a different viewer response to the witches than the vampires? Is there pro-vampire, anti-witch backlash?
KG: I haven’t had any backlash, and I think that’s because the character didn’t come off as a witch right away, we got to know and love Bonnie Bennett for who she was. And we’re with her when she discovers her abilities. I know Harry Potter had a backlash from certain groups for glorifying the witch story line, but I haven’t had any at all.

JG: To me, people are just curious as to how the witches interact with the vampires. I know some of the folklore, but not a lot of it. It’s interesting to watch the world we’re living in being created. It’s kind of like logging the forest as we step into it, and that’s kind of cool that I don’t what’s going to happen, and neither does my character. So there’s a suspense. I don’t have to think I know what’s going on.

Read the entire (lengthy!) interview.
