The Daily Beast takes a look at the fans and hype surrounding The Vampire Diaries, following Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder at the Hot Topic Cast Tour in Miami and discussing the show’s breakneck plot pacing with Executive Producer Julie Plec.
“We always have the line we draw in the sand — that shifts all the time in the day — of what’s taking something too far, what’s too ridiculous, what’s too outrageous, what’s too witchy-woo-woo, what’s too comic book, what’s too broad or too arch,” said Plec. “We try very hard to keep everything grounded in a strong emotional reality.”
It’s such a great moment when a show is hitting its stride, right? After seven episodes in Season 2 — its eighth is this Thursday at 8 p.m. — “TVD” feels like a show that’s confident in what it is, how funny it should be, how sexy and violent it can appropriately be, and how much plot it can pull off.
There’s nothing worse than seeing a show like that lose its way.
“What’s to say it won’t happen to us?” Plec said. She considered. “We’re so aware of the pitfalls that come with falling in love with your own ideas. And convincing yourself that if you think it’s a good idea that other people are going to like it. We fight a lot internally.”

Cosmopolitan has a behind-the-scenes video with Ian from this photo shoot. He talks about guys and women and sex. Because it’s Cosmo and that’s what you do. Watch below.
American Way Magazine interviews Ian about the usual – Twitter, teen girls, and Damon’s mindset. Thanks to @awolfinarcadia for the heads up and to interviewer Alison Winn Scotch for the scan! (Click on the image to see a bigger version.) READ THE ENTIRE INTERVIEW AT AMERICAN WAY.
YOU’RE A PRETTY BIG HIT WITH THE TEENAGE GIRLS THESE DAYS.
You know what, if I were complaining about that. … The reality of it is, without our fans, we would have no show. It’s amazing and inspiring and fl attering that all this is going down. It actually puts a fi re under our butts as actors because [we] have a lot to live up to. It makes us just want to push harder and make the show better.

Vampire Support has an exclusive peek at something pretty cool. We’ll let them explain:
Vampire Diaries fans Theressa, Stephanie, & Cynthia – who also happen to be very excited about the environment – sat down with the wonderful Ian Somerhalder last weekend in Miami, Florida during the Hot Topic event.
Ian talks about environmental awareness, his school experience, and how youth can take little steps towards doing their part for the environment. You can watch Part 1 of the two-part interview over at Vampire Support.

The last stop of the Hot Topic Cast Tour with Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder in Miami appears to have been a resounding success (the wristbands were sold out well in advance – congratulations to those lucky devils who got their paws on them). Thanks to gcsri0tgirl, you can see part one and part two of the Q&A session below. We’d give you an earplug warning, but odds are your hearing has already suffered from the previous two tour videos.

In case you weren’t able to watch Paul Wesley’s interview on KTLA Morning News this morning, luckily Zap2It’s Carina MacKenzie was on set to tweet/blog the action and you can watch the video proper courtesy of KTLA. It was very fun, though we’d like to implore Paul to please stay away from the Hawaiian shirts. Check out Zap2It’s write-up.
MTV caught up with Nina Dobrev on the Scream Awards red carpet and she admits her job has perks. Watch the brief video over at Hollywood Crush.
“Literally, I’ve made my rounds,” she said with a smile. “Between Katherine and Elena, I’ve madeout with almost every boy on the show. Other than my brother, thankfully.” (Though we bet Steven R. McQueen is no slouch in the smooch department.)
And last, but certainly not least, WGN-Chicago caught up with Michael Trevino and Steven R. McQueen at last week’s Hot Topic Cast Tour signing in Chicago.

The second stop on the Hot Topic Vampire Diaries cast tour was in Chicago yesterday, with the awesome Steven R. McQueen and Michael Trevino as the special guests. Queues were epic, fans were excited, and the screams were just as loud as ever. There’s video of the Q&A session courtesy of vampgurl789 (watch your necks, the second video is sideways, but the sound is great). Earplugs at the ready before you head in to watch Part One and then Part Two.
Sounds Under Radio are continuing to support the tour with their performances, and you can head on over to their website for a free download of their track “Sing”, which was featured in episode 21, Isobel.

Big thanks to Sounds Under Radio for sharing their own viewpoint of this past weekend’s Vampire Diaries Season 2 Hot Topic Cast Tour with us! As you all know by now, SUR is performing at each stop of the Tour (don’t miss them in Chicago this weekend and Miami next weekend!). A new version of their track “All You Wanted” (arguably one of the most memorable music placements of the first season) is on The Vampire Diaries: Original Television Soundtrack and features guest vocals from fellow TVD-featured artist Alison Sudol of A Fine Frenzy. You can follow them on Twitter at @SURtweet and on Facebook, and keep up with news on their official website.
