A few days ago, Ian Somerhalder tweeted out the above photo, revealing the title of the Vampire Diaries Season 3 finale: The Departed (EP322). The episode was written by Julie Plec, based on a story by Brett Matthews and Elisabeth Finch. John Behring will direct (he was also at the helm for the Season 2 finale, As I Lay Dying). How about that title, eh?

We can also confirm that the title of EP321 – the last Season 3 episode title to be revealed – will be: Before Sunset.

Here’s the schedule for all upcoming episodes through now until the Season 3 finale on May 10th:

  • March 29th: The Murder Of One (EP318)
  • April 5th: Dangerous Liaisons (EP314) [repeat]
  • April 12th: All My Children (EP315) [repeat]
  • April 19th: Heart of Darkness (EP319)
  • April 26th: Do Not Go Gentle (EP320)
  • May 3rd: Before Sunset (EP321)
  • May 10th: The Departed (EP322) [season finale]

XXIan Somerhalder took some time recently to chat with the nice folks over at Elvis Duran & The Morning Show. He talks about hiatuses, faux booze, flashbacks and all kinds of other things. Ian himself is a little quiet, so you’ll want to be ready to adjust your volume up and down as needed. Thank you Vampire Diaries Online for the heads up!

XXWe’re only hours away from a brand new episode of The Vampire Diaries and Ian Somerhalder tells Zap2It about tonight’s introduction of the “badass” Sage, played by guest star Cassidy Freeman. He also discusses Damon stepping up as an older brother to Stefan and how that affects his dynamic with Elena. Oh, and he also teased this:

Somerhalder can’t wait for fans to see what’s in store for the brothers as the season winds toward its conclusion. “I just talked to [producer Pascal Verschooris] last night, because we just got episode 21, which is episode 65… and I just learned about what the finale is. It’s really dynamic, man. There’s so much stuff happening.”

When we asked him if the finale would make us cry: “Yes,” he said bluntly.

And E!Online chats with Paul Wesley about the relationship between Stefan and Damon, Stefan’s dark side, and goes quite in-depth about the long road still ahead for Stefan and Elena.

Though Stefan will not have an easy time with it, Wesley says the process will lead him back to Elena. “The more he deals with moderation, the closer he grows to Elena. He was so involved in his own darkness, he didn’t have any time for romance. As the episodes progress, the audience is going to see Stefan maybe becoming more like he was season one and two, sort of the romantic lead hero.”
