Ian dropped by MTV’s It’s On with Alexa Chung today to talk Vampire Diaries and Damon Salvatore and his return to Lost (as in he’s getting on a plane to Hawaii this Friday with a 36-hour turnaround for filming – Boone will appear in three episodes). He also name-checked Barnabus Collins of Dark Shadows as the best vampire ever, and discussed how he thinks there’s always room for more vampires on TV, calling Kevin Williamson “a genius,” and praising the show’s ensemble cast.
We’re waiting for the video to post on MTV. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s up and add it to this post.
UPDATE: We have a photo of Ian on set at Alexa Chung today, courtesy of MTV.

UPDATE 2: Video’s up! Many thanks to Lora for uploading to YouTube so everyone can enjoy.
Also, thanks to lilacstar1 on YouTube, we have the Daytime EMMY Red Carpet pre-show snippet of Ian introducing a clip from The Vampire Diaries (we’ve edited it down to just Ian’s segment – and hi, Zach!):

We’ve been seeing this syndicated Zap2It article by John Crook pop up in various (abbreviated) forms the past 24 hours – I do believe it’s what a lot of you have been telling us about seeing in your city paper’s weekend sections – but this version seems to be the longest we’ve seen online. (All this news + a wicked head cold = I could not be very observant. Sorry.) In any case, maximum quote-age from Paul, Nina, Ian, and Kevin abounds (and bonus points for calling Ian’s eyebrows “Machiavellian”) :
For his part, Williamson says Vampire Diaries has become a real passion project for him. “Paul, Ian and Nina are in that first-season euphoria right now that is so contagious,” he says, laughing. “But it’s really a blast. I’m having a lot of fun. I haven’t been this excited about something in a really long time. Now we just have to wait and see if people respond to it. But it feels like we have something really special here.”

Some odds and ends to gather ’round. First up, thanks to Marissa for letting us know that The Vampire Diaries is scheduled to begin airing on the Go! Channel in Australia this October. Still no exact start date, but better than the general “end of 2009″ we’d been hearing. As soon as we have a date, we’ll let you know.
Many thanks to Caroline for these scans of Paul and Ian talking Stefan and Damon in the new issue of US Weekly (you guys can stop asking us about whether Paul is single now, thaaaaank you) and Ian in the Fall Preview 2009 issue of TV Guide.

And finally, CW Source has posted their Comic Con interview with Nina. She talks about the usual topics here, but also provides a teaser for the second episode, “Night of the Comet.”

The official synopsis for episode three, ‘Friday Night Bites’, is now up on the episode index page. The episode was directed by John Dahl and written by Barbie Kligman and Bryan Holdman, it looks like it’s going to be filled with a lot of action. And football. Lots of football. :D
SFX Magazine‘s October issue (out in the UK now) has an article about the Vampire Diaries TV series. Not much content – a short explanation along with a few snippets from Ian Somerhalder – but impressive enough that it got a full page given it’s not out in the UK until 2010. You can click on the image below to read the article.

TV Guide Magazine has posted some images from their Fall Preview issue (which should be on the stands now) in their gallery, including one of Nina, Paul and Ian by photographer Kurt Iswarienko.

You’ll have to excuse us if we’re incoherent for the next hour or so. Waistcoats! ;)
UPDATE: And now we have a video which features some (brief) snippets with Paul and Nina and behind-the-scenes footage of the photo shoot. You can see the full Fall preview video with all the featured shows here.
