The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesHollywood Crush spoke to Sara Canning on the subject of Alaric and Jenna, and where she thinks they’re headed. You can read the entire interview over at Hollywood Crush.

While highs and lows are likely in the forecast for Jenna and Alaric, Sara believes Alaric is a good match for Jenna. “I think Alaric is so different from a lot of the guys she’s dated. He definitely has a bad-boy streak…but he actually really cares about people,” she said. “He’s lost a wife, and Jenna just went through a major loss herself. She’s lost a major part of her family, and now she’s trying to fill that space for Elena and Jeremy. I think she just realizes that he has that life experience. She can look at him and say, he’s going to be a good dad one day. He’s that kind of guy.”

We’ve added Ian Somerhalder’s awesome Rolling Stone spread to the gallery – click on the image below for access to a readable version.

Book news! Feels like ages since we last posted any about the book series, and to make up for that we have a whole load of new book covers from various countries for you to peruse.

First up, the cover for Nightfall in Brazil has been revealed, and the publishers, Galera Record, will also be releasing a rather nifty Vampire Diaries boxset containing books 1 – 4. There isn’t a release date for either product yet, but we’ll let you know when we hear something. Update: Nightfall is due in October, and the boxset in November. Thanks, Isabella!

Thanks to the LJS Cover Resource (all hail Lorraine!), we’ve got some Vampire Diaries covers to share with you.

First up, the reprints of the original series in Denmark with some very striking covers. Going with a white/light theme really makes these stand out, and the artsy poses of Elena really add to the wow factor. And the subtle background of veins? Awesome. The Awakening also has an interesting title change, which translates to ‘Brothers of Darkness’ (thanks, Katrine!). Appropriate, no? Danish fans can look forward to buying these from Tellerup over the Summer. The Awakening and The Struggle will be published on May 10th, The Fury on June 10th, and Dark Reunion on July 16th.

The Russian cover for Dark Reunion (pictured left) has been released in its usual unrelated glory, though we haven’t got a date yet for when it will be published. Keep an eye on We also have the cover for the Italian version of Shadow Souls (pictured right), which should already be available to buy in bookstores.

With eleven episodes aired in the USA and Canada you wouldn’t think that a promo for the Vampire Diaries premiere in another country would provide us with much to grab us with. Well, we’d be wrong. Ian Somerhalder Italy pointed us at this new Italian trailer, and it’s very cool to watch. The show premieres in Italy on February 3 at 21.50pm on MYA/Mediaset Premium.

Melinda ClarkeWe’ve spent the past ten episodes of the Vampire Diaries wondering where on earth Matt and Vicki Donovan’s mother was (especially given that her daughter is officially missing), and now we’re finally going to find out. According to the Ausiello Files, Kelly Donovan will be played by Melinda Clarke (Julie Cooper in The O.C. and Lady Heather in CSI), and is due to appear on the show for a few episodes in March. By all accounts, she’s going to be a piece of work, but at least we’ll know for sure that Matt and Vicki do have parents and weren’t found in the Mystic Falls pumpkin patch. ;)

The official synopsis for episode 12, “Unpleasantville”, has been released by the CW. Definitely some spoilery hints in this one, so highlight/mouseover to view the information.
THE NEW KIDS IN TOWN. As Stefan and Damon try to figure out the identity of the new vampire in town, Stefan gives Elena jewelry filled with vervain to protect her family and friends. Hurting for money, Matt takes a job at the Mystic Grill, where former high school football-star Ben, works as a bartender. Ben comes to Bonnie’s aid when he notices Damon is bothering her. Damon and Stefan accompany Elena to a school dance with a 1950s’ theme, where Alaric introduces himself to Damon.
Finally, Ian Somerhalder Italy have pointed us at one of the behind the scenes videos about the pilot that’s been dubbed into Italian for airing in Italy. There are a few Stefan snippets, but it’s actually more fun to see exec producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec with Italian voiceovers.

Matt and StefanHeroine TV has posted an interesting article comparing morality in the Vampire Diaries and the Whedonverse (Buffy, Angel and Firefly) and how there are a lot of positive similarities between them. It wins me over for giving a Matt Honeycutt scene some serious love, but even without that it’s well worth a read. ;)

We’ve had word from Ian Somerhalder Italy that the Vampire Diaries will be airing in Italy on “Mediaset Premium“, likely from December. It should be airing at some point in 2010 on public television channel “Italia 1“.

You can vote for the TV series that you’re most looking forward to in YouTube’s Fall Preview. Aside from the Vampire Diaries there are a whole lot of trailers for a large number of shows for you to take a look at. Personally, I’m boggling over the fact that ‘Paranormal Cops’ is an actual TV show.

A quick reminder that reprints of The Awakening and The Struggle with the TV series tie-in covers should be available from today. For those of you wanting to read the books before the TV series airs on September 10th, now is the perfect time to go and buy them.

Finally, as we’ve mentioned before, the CW and the Red Cross are joining forces to promote blood drives in over 230 schools and college campuses across the United States; you can read the CW press release about it on the Futon Critic. Tomorrow (Wednesday, August 26th) there will be a blood drive taking place at the Ball Room at Georgia Tech. Cast members Ian Somerhalder, Kayla Ewell, Michael Trevino and Steven R. McQueen will be there from 9-10 am, and you can book an appointment to give blood here on the Red Cross website. If you’re in the United Kingdom, please consider finding a donation centre in your local area and giving blood, too.

Starve a Vampire. Donate Blood.

If you do decide to starve your vampire in order to donate, we urge caution until the next time you’ve been able to properly feed them. They tend to get a little tetchy without a regular meal of blood. ;)

The StruggleAt last, we have some book news to report! We know, we were as shocked (and pleased!) as you are. ;) The L.J. Smith book cover goddess, Lorraine, has updated her LJS Cover Resource website with a whole host of new covers (which are worth a look at if you’re fans of L.J. Smith’s books in general, not just the Vampire Diaries). We’re reposting the Vampire Diaries ones here with her kind permission, along with some more publication information.

First up, the USA cover for The Return: Shadow Souls with Damon on the front. We’ve seen the textless version of this cover before, but this is the first we’ve seen of the cover complete with title. As far as we’re aware, publication is still set for February 9, 2010.

The Return: Shadow Souls cover

It transpires that The Return: Nightfall is actually being published in two parts in both Italy (below, left) and Poland (below, right). The second part was published in Poland in July, and Italy can expect to see it at some time in November.

Nightfall Part 2: Italy Nightfall Part 2: Poland

Finally, Germany seems to have slipped in a set of original series reprints under the radar. As far as we can tell from the listing they’re available now and look to be a bundle deal.

The Awakening: Germany 2009 The Struggle: Germany 2009
The Fury: Germany 2009 Dark Reunion: Germany 2009

Update: We’d also like to remind everyone that you have until August 18th to enter the contest to win all of the Vampire Diaries books over on the official website. Open to residents of the USA only, be sure to read the rules before entering.

Since the Love Sucks promo was released, a few people have been busy translating it into various languages. We added a few to the original post, but as we get a lot of international hits (it’s amazing to see so much interest in this series from all over the world!) we thought it would be a good idea to make a quick post to get the links out there.

Don’t forget we have a list of the trailers so far (both in English and subbed) available on our trailers page. You can also find the .srt files for this trailer and the extended trailer on there. If you want to use them for translating the trailers into other languages, feel free to take them, and remember to let us know about them so we can add them to the list.

The CW have posted a new trailer for the Vampire Diaries TV series on their YouTube channel. Continuing with the ‘love sucks’ theme of the promotional banners we saw last week, this trailer seems to echo the second banner (with Stefan, Damon and Elena lying in the grass) in tone. Let us know what you think!

Update: Added screencaps to the gallery.

Update 2: Version of the trailer with Portuguese subtitles now available. Thanks, Wilson! Also Spanish trailer (thanks Keiran!), Italian trailer.
