Michael Trevino and Ian Somerhalder pumped everyone up yesterday with episode titles, shy pageant queens, and dancing McQueens (happy birthday, Steven! And happy birthday tomorrow, Sara Canning!), and Nina Dobrev tweeted at 5am this morning that she was heading to set for the official first day of Vampire Diaries Season 2. Game on!
No. Seriously. Nina really means it. (That pic’s from director of photography Paul M. Sommers.)
He hasn’t posted yet (we hope he will!), but director/producer J. Miller Tobin – who seems to be taking over Marcos Siega’s position on the TVD Team – is now on Twitter! You can find him at @millertobin. You’ll remember him from his directing duties on last season’s episodes The Turning Point and Isobel (which are currently ranked at #4 and #3, respectively, in the favorite Season 1 episodes poll).
And, finally, Michael Trevino shares the below snapshot via Twitter and says:
I’m thinkin this is what’s going on the back of our cast chairs this season. Photo is bad quality, but look closely.

If that doesn’t get you excited, we’re not sure what will. Check out those clawmarks for “2″! (Thanks to Michael for letting us share!)

First up – hey, lucky Americans: The CW has webclips and the extended promo for Miss Mystic Falls (EP19) already up on their website. They also have the “Three Episodes Left” promo up, with sneak peeks at upcoming episodes. You can check them all out on CWTV.com. Everyone else: we’re sure they’ll hit YouTube soon enough. Keep an eye on the blog.
Busy morning already. Thanks to KrystonSite, here’s the full episode synopsis for Isobel (EP21). Highlight for spoilers or read in the Episode Index.
ISOBEL RETURNS TO MYSTIC FALLS – Isobel returns to town and stuns Alaric with her attitude and her demands that he arrange a meeting with Elena. When mother and daughter finally meet, Isobel refuses to answer most of Elena’s questions, but reveals that she will stop at nothing to find the mysterious invention Jonathan Gilbert has been searching for. Isobel’s dangerous actions lead Stefan, Damon and Bonnie to step in and help Elena deal with the situation.
The episode was written by Caroline Dries and Brian Young and directed by J. Miller Tobin.
Last night’s Vampire Diaries episode, Under Control, pulled in around 3 million viewers and beat FlashForward in the 18-49 age demo. We’ll update with the CW’s press release when it’s released, but you can get the details over at TV By the Numbers.

As many of you have undoubtedly heard by now, The Vampire Diaries is a contender in the People’s Choice Awards. We first relayed their potential nomination in the Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show category weeks ago and encouraged you to vote – and vote you did! The Vampire Diaries not only made it into that category – where it’s up against Heroes, Lost, Supernatural, and True Blood – but it’s also up for Favorite New TV Drama (along with Eastwick, FlashForward, Melrose Place, Mercy, The Forgotten, The Good Wife, Three Rivers, NCIS: Los Angeles, and V). We think you know what to do: VOTE!
UPDATE: Looks like the Sci-Fi/Fantasy category is mobile-only. Sorry for the confusion!
TV Guide’s MegaBuzz has another Kevin Williamson-sponsored tease for upcoming episodes:
“We have another flashback episode scheduled,” says executive producer Kevin Williamson. “We’re going to learn more about the night [Stefan and Damon] died.” This flashback will give us more information about Katherine, which will eventually lead to a surprising reveal about the Elena doppelgänger.
Thanks to Denise for hooking us up with a few scans from the upcoming issue of TV Guide Magazine. First up, we have the inclusion of Vampire Diaries in a piece on how vampire shows are “hotter than hell,” and then a piece from Matt “I talked so much smack about this show after the pilot” Roush in which he changes his tune – for the most part.

Thanks to Marcos Siega for clarifying the director line-up for the next handful of Vampire Diaries episodes. J. Miller Tobin (Supernatural, Cold Case, did we mention Supernatural..?) is helming episode 11, the aforementioned Liz Friedlander will direct episode 12 (we incorrectly said episode 11 – oops!), Mr. Siega himself will step back behind the camera for episode 13, and Julie Plec mentioned some time back that Vampire Diaries editor Josh Butler will handle directing duties for episode 14 (re: production code 113).
