David Anders and Sara Canning have been over at RingCon 2011 this weekend. RingCon is a multi-fandom fantasy convention in Bonn, Germany, and according to David Anders, they’re having a pretty good time! Sara Canning also sent out a tweet from the event. You can see some pictures of the actors here.

The TV Chick has posted a great video interview with Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec. It’s a little old – from Comic-Con – but it had some things we hadn’t heard before, so we thought we’d go ahead and share it with you. Julie talks about how hard it was to kill off Jenna, how much she dislikes it when spoilers get out (and why), and what Damon would rather eat glass than do.

Sara Canning made an appearance at Dragon*Con over the weekend and got lots of love from fans at the event. TVD fan Mandy was on the scene and was kind enough to tell us about her experience, along with some of the TVD tidbits that Sara had to share.
Mandy told us in an email that Sara was very nice, with many nice things to say about Atlanta, the show and the cast, particularly Matt Davis. She related how she and Matt worked together on a back story for Jenna and Alaric’s relationship, as so much of it happened off screen. Sara’s favorite scene to shoot was the BBQ at the Gilbert house, she enjoyed working with some different actors than she usually shot scenes with. Mandy also had this to say about Sara’s comments regarding Jenna’s death:
Sara did not find out that Jenna was dying until two weeks before the episode was shot, though she was very glad that she got to be a vampire before leaving the show. She would have liked having more time for Jenna and Isobel to interact. Sara did wonder about how Jenna was going to react to the truth about vampires, she had thought Jenna might be in denial and not believe it, but she liked the ‘heartbroken’ direction that the writers took.
Our fan-on-the-scene was also able to snap a few pictures, despite some lighting challenges. Big thanks to Mandy for the inside scoop from Dragon*Con!

Earlier today, Michael Trevino tweeted that he was listed on the Dragon*Con guest list in error:
“For those asking, I was never scheduled nor will I be at Dragon Con this weekend in ATL.”
We don’t know how he wound up on the official guest list, and we’re sorry to have passed along this misinformation. So far as we know, David Anders and Sara Canning are in fact scheduled to attend.
UPDATE: David Anders has also pulled out of the convention.

One season, sooooo many deaths. So many, we’ve split the Best Death Scene (nickname: Golden Gravestone Awards) into two different polls. Last week, we asked Vampire-Diaries.net readers to chime in on their picks for the most memorable significant character death scenes and you have chosen your Top 5!
Congratulations to lcahill, the winner of A Visitor’s Guide to Mystic Falls, courtesy of Smart Pop Books!

VAMPIRE-DIARIES.NET READERS CHOOSE THE FIVE BEST (MAJOR) CHARACTER DEATH SCENES OF SEASON 2…

It’s the summer hiatus – and IT SUCKS. So to help wile away those lonely TVD-less hours as we await Vampire Diaries Season 3, we’ve rounded up a slew of guest bloggers (and huge Vampire Diaries fans) for a series called Ripping Open TVD. Each blogger will be focusing on one particular aspect of what we’ve just experienced in Vampire Diaries Season 2 and adding a hefty dose of Season 3 speculation. Remember: These are guest posts, so these are the opinions of the person writing them, not necessarily Vampire-Diaries.net. Cool? Cool. This week, Shira Rosenblatt makes the case for why death is no longer a “game changer” on The Vampire Diaries and why she hopes Season 3 will “reinvigorate” the stakes.
“There are more dead people than living. And their numbers are increasing. The living are getting rarer.” Eugene Ionesco, Rhinoceros
It is no surprise that death plays a major role on The Vampire Diaries. After all, two of the three main characters technically are dead. As much as we dread the killing of our favorite characters, whether we knew them a long time or fell in love with them at first guest starring sight, it is expected that on a supernatural show where the characters are in neverending life and death situations, we will inevitably say goodbye to some. In Season 1, Vampire Diaries excelled at killing characters at the right times for the right reasons, though I sometimes disagreed with the choice of character. In most cases, the major deaths last season moved the story forward or changed the story in ways that reverberated through to Season 2. When the show used the term “game changer” to describe a death, more often than not, the description was accurate.

I think we can all agree that the Grim Reaper pretty much lives in Mystic Falls. People die all over this town! They die at dances, at parties, in their houses and out in the woods. There’s so much death going around that a fair number of characters get to experience it multiple times in different ways! With all this wacky expiring going on, it’s high time we gave The Grim Reaper his due on a job well done and vote on the Best Death Scenes in Season 2.
Now, because there are so many awesomely dreadful demises to choose from, we’re splitting this up into two parts – major and minor characters. Which major player will take home the Golden Gravestone this week? Check out your choices below!
And here’s an added bonus: Leave a comment on this post that makes a case for your pick and you’ll be automatically entered to win a copy of A Visitor’s Guide to Mystic Falls: Your Favorite Authors on The Vampire Diaries (co-edited by us and Leah Wilson), courtesy of Smart Pop Books. You have until Tuesday, June 28th at midnight ET to have your comment count as an entry. We’ll also only be counting ONE comment per person, but feel free to discuss away in the comments.
EDIT: Egads! I forgot Caroline! Commenters who pointed this out, you’re totally right! She’s definitely a major character and she did die in Season 2, she should absolutely have been on this list. My only excuse is that I’m so focused on keeping Caroline alive forever that my brain shies away from associating her with death in any way. You should be able to vote for her now if you want to, I apologize profusely for leaving her out.

Vampire-Diaries.net readers have spoken! We asked who your choices were for Most Underrated Character of Season 2 and you made passionate cases for nearly everyone the list. (Who knew there was so much love for John Gilbert and Sheriff Forbes?!) But there can only be one who stands heads and shoulders above them all…
Congrats to Nesreen A, the winner of A Visitor’s Guide to Mystic Falls, courtesy of Smart Pop Books!

And a special note: You may have noticed some new bylines in the blog these past few days – please welcome Abby and Kate to the V-D.net blogging team!
