SpoilerTV have posted some stills from episode nine, “History Repeating”. Lots of Stefan and Damon (the darts scoreboard amuses us for some reason), along with some of Alaric, Jenna and Jeremy. UPDATE: Added the stills to our gallery.

Broadcasting & Cable has posted an article about Kevin Williamson, about liking scary movies, his career (including Scream and Dawson’s Creek) and working on the Vampire Diaries with the CW. There’s some nice praise for Kevin from Peter Roth (president of the WB) and Dawn Ostroff (president of the CW), along with quite a few quotes from the man himself.

According to Williamson, Vampire Diaries marks the first project since Dawson’s where he has felt that sort of magic. “This show is kind of blessed,” he says.

While we don’t yet have a cover for the TV series tie-in of The Fury, we do have a date. HarperTeen have it listed with an expected publication date of April 27, 2010, and you can pre-order it there or on Amazon.com. Still nothing listed for Dark Reunion, but we’ll keep an eye out.

On a related note, the WB have a new Vampire Diaries t-shirt up for sale for $19.95.

Finally, we’ve seen a lot of Halloween pumpkin carving going on using images from both True Blood and Twilight. It got us wondering if any of you talented people out there were planning on carving some pumpkins (or making other Halloween decorations, for that matter) with a Vampire Diaries theme? If you are, we’d love it if you’d send us pics of your projects, and if we get enough to make it worthwhile we’d like to feature them in a blog post on Halloween. Get gutting those pumpkins, people. ;)

Thanks to Johanna and Only Paul Wesley for pointing out Paul’s feature in Australia’s Girlfriend magazine.

We tweeted this last night, but in case you missed it, via TV Guide’s MegaBuzz: a fan’s Vampire Diaries theory and Julie Plec’s sly spin on the issue.

UPDATE: And via Ask Ausiello: Find out why you shouldn’t miss this week’s episode OR next week’s.

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesHi, guys. Anything exciting going on? We’re still playing catch-up from the full-on crazy that was last night and today, and a lot of stuff has been slipping through the cracks. Here’s an attempt to gather some of it in one place. Thank you to the five gazillion of you (okay, it wasn’t that much, but it felt close) who emailed us with links, news, videos, songs, you name it, all through last night and today. This site is truly what you guys make it; we’re just the facilitators. You’ve humbled us big time with your help and overwhelming enthusiasm.

We’ll add to this post throughout the night as the need arises. And breathe. Feel free to drop links in the comments if we’ve missed something super-important.

If you’re just getting around to watching the pilot, or will be catching it tonight or Sunday, be sure to swing back by and vote in the Pilot poll.

Episode four of the Vampire Diaries now has a title: “Family Ties”. We also have a bunch of episode stills, and now have photographic evidence that Jenna actually exists. ;) There’s also a picture of Vicki at the end that looks distinctly posed, so we’re thinking it may (though we won’t swear to it) be a picture from a photoshoot rather than a still from the episode. Kayla at the Greystone Mansion shoot, perhaps?

The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesFirst up: the official CW press release for The Vampire Diaries has revealed a few more character name changes – one of which book fans will be more than familiar with. Jenna, formerly Moyer and played by Sara Canning, is now Jenna Somers (we’re not a hundred percent on that spelling as Elena’s mother’s maiden name is clearly Sommers on the gravestone in the pilot and the press release also lists Tyler as “Taylor” Lockwood). And Caroline, formerly Truitt and played by Candice Accola, is now…Caroline Forbes! Yes, our favorite runner-up will be retaining her original surname from the books. We’re also loving the write-up in the release: “…the manipulative Caroline Forbes, the nemesis of former friend Elena Gilbert.”

Noticeably absent from the cast list on the press release? Chris William Martin, who played Zach in the pilot. Seems a rather significant role to be bumped to a recurring guest spot, and he’s been listed on official promotional items up ’til now. (We’ve actually been wondering about this since Marcos Siega posted this photo to Twitter back in July.) Is the Salvatore Boarding House getting a new landlord…or lady? It’s okay – he’s still around!

Thanks to A.M. “Feather Duster” Hartnett for pointing out that Paul Wesley was featured on the front page of IMDb today as part of their TCA coverage. Here’s a screencap in case it goes away soon.

August 10th TV Guide: The Vampire Diaries

We only have one word: WAISTCOATS. ETA: Actually, we have more than that – Ian confirms that the Salvatores were amongst the original settlers of Mystic Falls.

And finally, Blast Magazine has a follow-up article to their Comic Con Vampire Diaries pilot review, and it’s full of quote-y goodness: Nina ponders whether she’ll get to do action scenes, Paul reveals his favorite scene (and it hasn’t even happened yet), and Ian teases that “evil” is about perspective. Oh, and Julie Plec dropped this:

“There was this ongoing joke about Damon and oranges on (a fansite) and I thought I had missed something in the books. So, I went back and tried to re-read everything because I didn’t want [fans] to think I hadn’t gone through it,” Plec added “So, that site posted it up, and I thought, ‘Perfect! Now at some point we can have Damon with an orange in a scene!’ So it’s just a little nod towards fans.”

If the Vampire-Diaries.net legacy is nothing else, folks, there will be an orange. And we’re pretty blown away by the fandom service of that. (However, we want to point out that if Damon happens to be shirtless in that scene, that’s all Julie.)

Sara CanningThe Vancouver Film School blog interviews graduate Sara Canning, who is playing Jenna in The Vampire Diaries television series. She talks about how she landed the role in the TVD pilot and gives some insight into what we can expect from her character:

I play Jenna in the show, the young aunt of the lead character, Elena, and her brother Jeremy. I already love her. She is essentially learning to be responsible for the first time in her life. She’s cool, she’s smart, she’s balancing a lot in the series, and dealing with a struggle beyond her years. I remember being a kid and really looking up to my older cousins, my mother’s youngest sister, and young aunts of my friends. I’m pulling bits of those rad women into Jenna’s character.

The Vampire Diaries TV: Damon mocking Stefan's journal, oh noes!We thought we’d point out some details that caught our eye in all of the recently released footage from The Vampire Diaries pilot. How about you guys – notice anything significant? Speculate away!

We’ve lumped the more spoilery stuff near the end, so here’s the Obligatory Spoiler Warning for those who’d rather not make any possible connection between plot points in the books and the TV series.

  • The names of Elena’s parents: Grayson Gilbert and Miranda Sommers Gilbert. Elena’s parents are never named in the books, so this is a special bit of canon unique to the TV series. (Intentional Batman and Bionic Woman references? Probably not, but we’re geeks – sue us.) Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert, we might add, died on May 23, 2009 – yep, yesterday, and two days after the upfronts.
  • We note a distinct lack of Caroline (Candice Accola) and Elena and Jeremy’s aunt, Jenna Moyer (Sara Canning), in any of the footage. And though it’s not so notable that Mr. Tanner didn’t make it in there, we’re thinking of you, Ben “OMG, it’s Cowboy from jPod!” Ayres fans.
  • Why, hello there, significant glance between Stefan and Matt.
  • AND HERE’S WHERE WE GET INTO THE SPOILERY STUFF.

Sara Canning as Jenna MoyerWe’ve had a tip-off from an anonymous source going by the name of ‘Inquiring Minds’. This source has stated that the Hollywood Reporter misreported the casting, and that the mysterious Sarah Carey, who is listed as playing Jenna Moyer in the Vampire Diaries pilot, does not exist. The actress playing Jenna should have been listed as Sara Canning. A look at her IMDb profile indicates that she’s previously worked on Smallville and Kyle XY, giving her previous associations with both the CW and Julie Plec, which adds some credibility to the claim. She certainly looks the part for a sexy grad student, too.

Thanks, Inquiring Minds!

IMDb is also listing Benjamin Ayres as Mr. Tanner (who really should not be that good looking!), and Steve Belford as Darren. Now we just need to shed light on those who have been cast as Pete Whitmore and Brooke and we’ll have a complete set. If you’ve got any tips for us, please be sure to drop us a line!

Discuss this in the vampire-diaries.net forums.
